There was nothing Hartnell could have done in order to avoid hitting Alberts. Alberts put himself in a vulnerable position(around 4 feet from the boards, and made the mistake of going to his knees to play a puck). By the time he bent onto his knees, Hartnell wasn't far enough away to avoid hitting him. If Alberts never went down to his knees, he would have absorbed a hit, but he chose to be irresponsible. I'm not saying that Hartnell didn't deserve a suspension but players gotta be responsible.

It would have been tough for Scott Hartnell to hold up on the hit, since Alberts fell to his knees only about a couple seconds before the hit.

There was nothing Hartnell could have done in order to avoid hitting Alberts. Alberts put himself in a vulnerable position(around 4 feet from the boards, and made the mistake of going to his knees to play a puck). By the time he bent onto his knees, Hartnell wasn't far enough away to avoid hitting him. If Alberts never went down to his knees, he would have absorbed a hit, but he chose to be irresponsible. I'm not saying that Hartnell didn't deserve a suspension but players gotta be responsible.

Pause the video at 1:41 and look at where Hartnell was...really close to Alberts. The elbow was unnecessary but at the speed he was traveling at, there was no avoiding hitting Albets. However, what Hartnell could probably have done is put his hands up flat towards the glass so he could stop...idk. It's kinda funny though that Alberts is playing with the Flyers now.

okay bros...alberts plays in the nhl and is one of the better defensmen in the league. He clearly thought that hartnell wouldnt be stupid ebough to drill him in the head when he was on his knees trying to make a pla on the puck. See what happens when you take the enforcers out of the game, nobody thinks twice, because there is nobody fighting and enforcing when there is a cheap shot. are you stupid, if a player is on his knee's why would you hit him...it would be one thing if he dropped to his knees last second, then i would agree with you. but he was on his knee's a good two to three seconds before the hit leaving him plenty of time to abort on the hit. the player making the hit was either retarded or a dirty low down grease ball of a player.
