  • Thanks for sharing! you awesome Bro!

  • Rick, this board kicks but. I love my SL24 It makes my job in my band much easier, I have all the tools I would ever want right at a press of a botton. Nothing else could ever come close.

Presonus, If you're reading this......I wouldn't mind testing out any new stuff you're coming up with. I love the companies passion

  • Hey Rick - Great job, love the videos... quick question... Why didn't you use one of the GEQ's to do this instead of the FAT channel? Also, the last part about the gate, it looked like you had the AUX selected... If so, can you explain why you gated the AUX instead of the mic's channel?

  • @FSUGrad1999 when this video was made the board did not have GEQ's on the aux

  • Great video going to switch all my gear to get the Studio Live.

  • Excellent video!!! I'm about to purchase the StudioLive 16:4.2 so this video is right up my alley!

    ~Vince

  • Does that also work for the mains?

  • I have two 16.4.2 boards. I have used them 1-2X a week for two years with absolutely zero issues. I'm hoping to start using the iPad app this month.

  • BAD IDEA FOR BIG CONCERT BRO. YOU'LL NEVER KNOW WHEN SHIT"S GOING TO HAPPEN.

  • this mixer is ridiculous! hahah an amazing idea

  • Killing the feedback on an open stage is the last step, not the first IMHO. You need to find the feedback frequencies that pop up when there are are faces, open mouths, and instruments in front of the mics (not to mention hats above them, and some jugheads' hands around them).

I've always found that a gate that keeps out a drum or guitar amp will also keep out the vocalist chatting between songs.

  • QSC K-Series?!?!

  • Not bad. I think you speak and demonstrate with great confidence. You were very easy to understand...Thank you

  • 16.4.2 = FAIL

  • @DVGRRJM Why is this mixer a fail? In all seriousness, I am thinking of purchasing this.

  • @bradn7 I hope you get one that doesn't crash like the one I had....for a week and returned it because after crashing repeatedly it completely froze. That's not the kind of thing you want happening when your reputation is on the line and people are paying you to provide sound. ..It is a good sounding board though if you don't mind just using it as a toy.

  • @DVGRRJM Thank you very much. Good insight

  • This would be a great mixer if it actually worked reliably. Read the presonus forums very carefully. You will find that there are MANY users who are on their second or third board from presonus OR they have had to send it to the factory for repair. Save yourself the trouble. It is an attractive and nice sounding board, but the system is far from stable. Consider yourself warned.

  • how about ear monitor

  • its cheaper and cooler to just buy big guitar amps, plenty loud for that room... anytime u need to amplify the drums and mic the guitars, the house should be so big it has its own pa system...

  • @PattyWhomperOFFICIAL you don't play much I see.... Very few places have a giant sound system and most are usually sucky systems. Any band worth a shit has it's own kick ass pa.

  • I agree with all of the positive comments about the usefulness of these videos. Thanks, and keep 'em coming!!!

  • I know this can not be done with this desk however, the advantage of having 32 CH using layers is, you can make CH1-16 your main mix and CH17-32 your monitor mix. If you can duplicate inputs from CH1-16 on CH17-32 you can then EQ the sources individually using CH EQ's 17-32 for the monitor mix. This way, when you EQ feedback out of a mic, the other instruments in that mix will not be subject to the EQ you set for mic feedback.

  • However, when you EQ the AUX outputs for mic feedback, you change the overall sound of the wedge. As the sound may be good for the mic with no feedback, the sound of everything else in that AUX MIX will be compromised by the AUX EQ you set for feedback tuning of the mic.

  • I'm not sure why you didn't actually find the frequency by setting the eq to boost and sweeping thus creating the feedback so you can notch the exact frequency.

  • YOU KICK ASS RICK!

  • Hey Rick just wondered what kind of case the studiolive is in? it looks like a 12U depth case but im not sure? Thanks!

  • These videos are amazing..

  • Are the faders motorized?

  • @MrLucasdb No but when you want to recall your previous mix session the LED's show you where the faders should be so you set them back manually, it only takes 20 seconds to set it up.

  • Rick and the Presonus people, I've seen each and every video about the StudioLive by Presonus here on UTube and I've been really impressed by your dedication and simplicity with clients and your honesty. Everything is CLEARLY explained! Keep on the good work. God Bless You!!

  • Very nice video, like that mixer too!!

  • wish they put a 15 band graphic for monitors, that would convince alot of people on the spot!if not for the speed but they know that that graphic eq is another piece of kit that they wouldn't have to tale with them!

  • Can you show how to use GEQ for main ?

  • Rick - I just picked up the StudioLive for Christmas and am thoroughly delighted with the platform. Please keep the video tutorials coming. I have learned so much from these - they are priceless. This video is excellent. Very well done - keep them coming.

  • Hey Rick, after watching your videos for several months now I'm hooked on the SL mixer. I recently purchased one and I'm excited to use it for my QSC HPR rig. Just a question about the feedback cutback. Say you have four monitors, would you go down the line with that process or only on the monitors you need?

  • I would eq each mix separately. Only because you might have microphones that have slightly different frequency ranges (even same models) and also different reflections from the ceiling/back wall, etc.. However, you can totally copy and paste your first monitor eq to the others just as a starting point. That will definitely save you some time.

  • Just wondering, are any of the main outs powered or do they need to run through an amp to passive speakers?

  • The StudioLive outputs are not powered. You can either go from the StudioLive to a poweramp and then to passive speakers. Or you can go directly to powered speakers like the QSC K speakers.

  • Thanks Rick for your quick reply and clarification

    Cheers

  • in the beginning of the video he says he's running powered speakers

  • Thank you very much, Rick. very very good video.

    Art (Thailand).

  • Hey Rick

What a Great Feature that I haven't used with my SL.

I will use this feature at tomorrows show.

    thanks again

    Charles

  • Thank you, Rick. You are an excellent, "Johnny on the Spot" soundman.
