@italia10588 that was a big issue for me. If an animal comes up possitive it must be destroyed because it is not worth our health, & CDC & APHIS problems. And if you test an animal the bacteria may also be latent. Dillans & her mother were tested, they were neg. before I got her. but durring stress or over time the bacteria can pop up if there was exposure. Mycobacterium is common in dirt; and so her environment is controled as well as her feed and health. yes; She is also re-tested.
@thedarknesscallingme no. many people see them as vermin as they have been increasing their territories & numbers. They love eating insects and tear up gardens and crops. They are legally hunted in many southern states. they are not adapted for colder climates, can get frost bite easily due to their circulatory system being concentrated in their limbs; and they have trouble regulating their homeostasis in cooler temps so they have not been able to venture far north.
Holy crap no. There's like 50 per square acre in places like Florida. If you go walking through the woods anywhere you'll hear them everywhere and see bajillions.
@milarox1999 It is possible. Research is still being done to deturmine the strains and methods of transmission and if it possible & how. I highly suggest not to play with fire because you can get burned. the problem is the infection is slow and can not show up for years.
Mice have sucessfully been shown to carry it in their foot pads; and it is believed armadillos are highly vulnerable due to their low homeostasis (body temp is near 90-93) thats very low for a mammal. They also dig in the dirt where mycobacterium lives.

How do you know if he has leprosy or not? I've read about 25-30% of them carry the disease. Did you have him tested for it when you took him in?
