CANNOT understand how anyone could hate these guys. I am a fan of Tony Vincent and I love him as Judas (and Simon) but I could see why people are wary of his portrayal. BUT GLEN CARTER? ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
Tony was better as Simon in the video production, it's take with a hint a darkness to play such a flawed character as Judas. I think that Jérôme Pradon was the best Judas
hes a bit too boy band-ish.... the only guy for this song was and always will be Murray Head.. the only guy for heaven on their minds was and always will be Carl Andrrson
@lisaarlala overall yes. But not the guy who played Jesus. I show this production when it was on Bway. He was really the only flaw. Everyone roared with cheers during the the bows, but when the guy playing Jesus came out it sounded like some people stopped clapping. He did not sing any of the songs like he did on the Tony's
I am sorry I am all for creative expression but this version of JCS has got to be the greatest massacre of a great classic musical...I mean the matrix looking clothing and tough guy image? Really? These people should be ashamed of themselves for destroying a wonderful classic
Who directed this? And choreographed? For shame! They should be sent to Schenectady and forced to do summer stock for the rest of their lives. This is awful. First of all - how about casting actors? Who can act? Not overact? And rock singers, not musical theater boys trying to rock out? And what is the concept? Billy Idol meets cabaret? Oh wow, that's visionary!Check out a)the original Broadway cast Tony award performance and b) current version in Europe doing this song if you don't believe me.
The Gethsemane part of this was really intense for the Tonys. Bravo, Glenn, for getting all emotional out of nowhere. Also, I love the higher note he hit at the end which helped transition into Superstar. It should happen more often, even though it probably wouldn't go with the real orchestrations at the end of Gethsemane at all.
@gablekind thats exactly why he suits it. Boy band = lover and in all essence, Judas loved Jesus, and it was that love that was turned to hate that got him to deliver the Traitors Kiss. At least that's how it is in the DVD of JC 2000
@Gahoyify he was the one who originally had the role, but due to an broken ancle(or something along those lines) couldn't rehearse as much, and had to play Simon instead. But on Broadway it is Tony Vincent.
@Gahoyify He didn't "steal" it, he had to step in when Jerome Pardon pulled out of the show. And he pulled out because he realised he couldn't sustain the role, even in the movie you can hear him straining; he's a baritone and Judas isn't.
I think Tony did an amazing job as Judas (because he is amazing) but one reason I liked him as Simon is that when he was Judas, I kept having thoughts about how strange it was that I found Judas hot. lol. It was something that took away from his evil-ness a bit.
I love Glenn Carter and he has a good voice but this performance wasn't good. He hit a couple bad notes, but he has done way better than this. Tony Vincent also has an AMAZING voice.
I'm trying to give Tony Vincent a chance as Judas, but... He sings well, but he's a bit too boy-band for me. I can't even explain. I still prefer Jerome and Carl.
Not to sound negative or anything but this is the only Judas that wasn't my kind of style and why would they go from Gethsemane to the last act before the Crucifixion and why Glenn Carter again the only one to play two JCS shows as Jesus.
we clearly are not following racial accuracy... no one in the cast would be white. blind casting, go with it. it's what allowed toni braxton to be Belle... not that i agree with that.
in AIDA he bared his chest and it created a buzz among the female (and gay) populace... now imagine him playing Jesus.. with only a loincloth in the crucifixion scene.. the audience will go wild! hahaha!
tony vincent. oh my god, my heart, his voice is so damn sexy.

You destroyed one of the best performances in history. The "creative license" of whomever put their personal spin on JC should be disemboweled.
