  • For the first time in my life, at UCLA last year, I heard real pianissimo for the first time in my life. Thank you, Ms. Sumi Jo.

  • Incredible you can almost feel the blessed virgin. sumi jo is a gift to all

  • Sublime

  • That last note. Sweet jesus, so beautiful and soft and...just amazing!!

  • OMG LAST NOTE WTH. SO SOFT! HOW THE HELL DOES SHE REACH AN A WITH SUCH AN SOFT VOLUME.

  • @sumimimi0 last note its a ultrasonic note, barely audible

  • This particular recording may not be the best there is, but seriously, how could anyone ever dislike this. Ever. HOW?! I can't quite wrap my mind around this concept.

As it is now, the dislike button is (mainly) being used for two reasons only - that is, either to tell the YouTube page not to add similar videos to their recommendations or the front page (->there should be a separate button for this!) or to show disrespect towards the uploader.

Don't people *think* before clicking on stuff?

  • that is actually pretty good. amazing performance.

  • Goosebumps

  • It's a fact. There's an Asian out there out performing every non-Asian in the world.

  • @WongGeGe48 Of course, and that's because there are so many more of them.

  • over a million views!

  • Does anyone know what key this is in?

  • She has SUCH a beautiful voice and it is so disappointing to see those who have to constantly spout their supposed knowledge of the technicalities of certain genres of singing. As a soprano myself I know how difficult it is to sing with the light touch that she has achieved here. So much easier just to belt out a song. Her voice just floats along ethereally and brings with it a lovely sense of spirituality and beauty.

  • oh! that last note was the hardest. If that note was not held long enough and goes off key.....OH BOY.

  • High, clear and crisp! Beautiful.

  • not such a good performance. Ave Maria - Caccini - Olga Pyatigorskaya is much much better, stunning...

  • @zhduble i listened to your suggestion, but I think Sumi Jo sang it better hands down. i want to know why you think Olga Pyatigorskaya's version is 'much much better'?

  • wow.. amazing lips!!! nice performance :D

  • thank you for posting this its a lovely version, what a talented woman

  • @richzero0

Glad you liked it, it is rather special, as is Sumi Jo - Charles Francois Gounod serenade, uploaded by smoothiw. Watch for the flashing eyes and smile as she catches her breath at the end. Captivating!

  • @richzero0

Try Sumi Jo - O Mio Babbino Caro. The version uploaded by cdl4153. Simply stunning.

  • @chinaman612 Wow! that was great!!! Thank you! Do you have any more? lmao

  • can anyone recommend other arias such as this one? I REALLY like this! <3

  • so gifted!!! <3

  • Her voice sends chills and electricity through my body.

  • beautiful.

  • First time I ever heard her. I typically don't like non traditional versions of ave maria, but all I can say is, wow, she blew me away. So beautiful

  • @knochknight I'm confused... how is this non traditional? She's singing correctly according to the sheet music of this piece...

  • Going to see her sing Mozart in London next week. I have a front row seat.

Sumi Jo is 'the nuts'! Don't worry about that.

  • she is great! she makes me speechless! I actually don't know about music

but after i heard it i was aware that i was in tear. that's the music!

  • wowwwwwwwwww.........

  • The best voice in the world!

BRAWO !!!

  • everytime i hear her version, its make me feel very small as if i was face to the univers

  • It's unreal ! where has she hide her wings ?

  • "BOSKA" chcemy Cię w Polsce !!! POLAND Jesteś CUDEM. FANTASTYCZNA

  • @EdenVandeCamp Next time, speak in your mother language because the translation you made is awful. You don't know if Beyoncé, Aguilera, Carey could possibly have the same level in opera... Just so you know, there's a register in pop called "whistle register" : pop singer and opera singer can both do this kind of register. ;)

Anyway, this discussion is now finished.

  • @SurgeMeOn Lara Fabian is a lyric soprano with a vocal range that spans four octaves from E-flat 3 to G#6 in live performances she has belted up to A5, and she can't sing Addio del passato, Sarah Brightman has a three-octave vocal range and she can't sing opera, Maraiah Carey is good but Christina and Celine not

  • @EdenVandeCamp It's useless to talk about this.

  • I am so proud of Sumi Jo. I usually do not give my respect to just anyone. But man, now this person is someone I would give my respect to. It is beautiful and one of the perticular classic music that I can actually STAND. (Other ones can be so boring? in my opinion.don't get offended) I respect her for her great performances and that voice and just that graceful control of vibration and volume. I love Sumi JO and Sumi Jo FTW!

  • I discovered her voice and she left me speechless..

  • i've been watching this clip over and over for an hour - I only know sumi jo because of Dream High and watching this I'm speechless....it's so beautiful...

  • Fantastica, Grandiosa!

  • Wonderful voice and beautiful song !

  • i wish the whole world could listen to her voice....so many people need to feel this peace inside of them , even if its for 4mins =(

  • AMAZZIINGGGG!!!!

  • Absolutely the best voice. Thank you

  • Absolutely the best voice. Thank you

  • Sumi Jo has much to offer but did not do this wonderful piece justice. Singers need to open their mouths and enunciate it is not just noise. To hear this properly sung , full of yearning for Our Lady listen to Inessa Galante

  • @waynekit Well, no, singers need not to open their mouths, if they are in Sumis level. And there's no "proper versions". Personal preference could be an only answer to someone has negative opinion regard this clip, which is just the piece of art.

  • South Korea. Represent.

  • HOW!!! does she hit such perfect notes with her mouth half shut???? she is so amazing ..... crystalic vocal cords...

  • First time listening to Sumi Jo's Ave Maria - check. Stopping everything I'm doing to watch this angel sing - check. Hair standing on back of my neck - check. Goosebumps on my arms - check. Falling in love with Sumi Jo - check.

  • Really, better than Kathrin Jenkins, and probably, most of other singers performing this song. Pure, pure sound.

  • it is music

  • does she ever open her mouth? perfect performance, but i hate rushing on eighth notes

  • Absolutely incredible!

  • Don't you just love Caccini's Ave Maria?

  • @inaina12345 Actually, Giulio Caccini never wrote any Ave Maria. The piece you hear on this video is the work 'Ave Maria' by Vladimir Vavilov.

  • pacat ca nu se mai asculta

  • She has it all, just lovely and beautiful voice. Bravo~~~~~

  • thumbs up if americas got talent brought you here.? Beautiful aint it.

  • She is petitioning our Mother to save our world. No intellectual argument or begging or angry tantrum could possibly compare with this display of unique soul beauty humans are capable of in her voice, and would be a tragedy to lose in this universe.

  • God in heaven! This one voice alone is enough for God to spare the human race it's stupidity, greed and cruelty from destruction.

  • I like her piano moments, beautiful! I'm working on this piece now and I guess I prefer latin lyrics but she sings so well that it doesn't even matter.

  • i am so in love with this woman. she sings with her entire being, and she's just the most lovely person if you ever get the privalige of meeting her. beautiful song, beautifully sung.

  • I think i have an opera singers voice! I love singing ave maria...this is great.

  • Breath taking

  • Thumbs Up if Lys Agnes sent you here

  • @NoahBowenOfficial So funny that you said that... I got here cause of her... But this version is beautiful...

  • @situpeh Lys Agnes was better in my opinion

  • @NoahBowenOfficial I agree... I really like the tone of her voice. Can't wait to see what she will do next.

  • @situpeh I'm hoping she will sing Pie Jesu, I even asked her on twitter. She follows me on twitter

  • @NoahBowenOfficial Type "Sumi Jo - Pie Jesu - Faure " and you will find it in YouTube.

  • @NoahBowenOfficial nooooo:s

  • Does somebody have this with Cecilia Bartoli? It is somewhat better, is it not?

  • What a wonderful pianissimo!

  • Omg, voice of an ANGEL!!!!!

  • Well, honestly, I try very hard strolling among classical and opera interpretations (like this one) hoping to find some my ears would lock on to. I can't see where you find "feelings" and "emotions" pouring out of this beside perfect singing technique. My reference is Eve Brenner - "Le Matin Sur La Riviere", anything close to that around?

  • @jnyveslbl It is beyond me that you could not see the feelings and emotions pouring out of her.... I do not know what to say, man. The first time I heard her sing this song, I was almost suffocated by blatant display of human vulnerability. Still your comments is very shocking to me :p

  • @wrongforthat No ! I don't mean to shock anyone nor by no means to be disgraceful ! If you snoop around on my channel you will certainly see where I find "feelings" and "emotions" spitting out from vocal interpretations. The thing that puzzles me is why don't I find any of that from these "classic" opera singers! I thought some of you familiar with these could give me leads to outstanding performers in that manner...

  • @jnyveslbl I think it takes time to get used to the different type of music, if it were not a your usual cup of tea. Let it sip in, grow on you. btw I must say this version of Ave Maria by Sumi is a kinda subdued one. Originally operatic singing technic excludes any mechanical aid, like mic, amplification etc. Again, it takes time. Hope you find pleasure in Sumi and classical singing :)

  • @wrongforthat I don't know. Honestly, I've been through a lot of these over and over and none ever locked on. I just thought someone could lead me to those outstanding ones, which I can't find on my own it seams... Maybe it is simply a totally different realm... Thanks anyway.

  • thank you God for this voice

  • what a voice!!! This is just perfect!!

  • A precious piece of Art

  • she is from another planet......

  • this is a good singer but in the vivrato she is very exelent and the inicial part she says o my good I can´t make it, sorry but you are in the theater for sing whit the segurity

  • So beautiful! I like this even though I am more of a pop music fan! This is true music!

  • i just drops some tears. damn!!

  • superb . . . . .the best rendition of this song.

  • ♥♥♥♥♥

  • She is amazing!

  • Just an angel fallen from the skies!

  • She is the best, I cant get enough of this clip

  • She is amazing!!;)

  • PERFECTION! AMAZING! I have tears & goose bumps. I could hear Sumi Jo sing all day. Incredible!

  • utsukushii desu ne :)

  • Listen Sumi Jo is to have a fresh encounter with angels.

  • Nom piękna.

  • O !!! PIĘKNA !!! przyjedz do Polski !!!!!

  • I prefere the version of Anne Cambier and I Justiniani

  • This is beautiful. For those who love this song, see also countertenor David DQ Lee singing it. It will knock your socks off!

  • I like this better with the traditional Ave Maria text. This is an alternative (and still valid) rendition that is more like a vocalise. I just prefer it with the text, because it goes so well with the words!

  • @elvenlove this isnt an arrangement of schuberts ave maria, there are so many operatic pieces called ave maria. ave maria is the original term for virgin mary

  • @allthenamesrtook Yes....I know it's not the Schubert. I'm also familiar with many different settings of the text, like the Faure Ave Maria, the Biebel choral piece, and many others. I have sheet music for this with the actual Ave Maria text, which I like better then this version.

  • there is no end to the perfection of this song!!! pure perfection =)

  • Okay, now....that is incredible......jaw dropped*....i can't even tell if she's better or katherines better.

  • @3aSts1d3b0i

You are comparing *HER* with *Katherine Jenkins*????????? You got to be kidding.....Katherine *aspires* to be an opera singer, this one is *one of the top* if not THE top...

  • @niskol

I fully agree with you. Two different levels of performer.

    Sumi Jo always the best!

  • @3aSts1d3b0i

Have you heard her Queen of the Night? Let's hear Katherine do it. I have nothing against KJ...she's a most beautiful woman who sings very well, but to compare two is just ........no comparison.

  • If North Korea could find singers like this, they could buy their way through the famine.

  • @MrGaryiverson I think North Korea keeps the good singers only to perform songs in honor of the communist leaders. It's sad :(

  • Heaven must be Jo Sumi singing while we see the Mother of God.

  • @leveluz Where is Jesus in this "vision" you speak of?

  • @JesusGaveMeNewSoul Jesus is everywhere. That's the reason why I haven't mentioned Him in my previous message. Also, when I say "The Mother of God", I mean "The Mother of Jesus", of course.

  • @leveluz Amen. Glad to know you love Him that much to say something so meaningful back to me, I appreciate your outreach to me as a fellow soul. I do assure you with all truth and reality of what I am about to say. If someone asks you if you've tasted of heaven, you could be saying with full confidence, sure, I taste it every moment from the moment He let me taste it. Is that something you would like to say? What is impossible for God, nothing right? Seek the kingdom first, said JEsus.

  • @leveluz Christ said seek it, now who can believe, seek and continue to seek as they read, fast and go into strict training to receive Heaven within them now? That's the question. God can and does do it, people don't understand how literally God can give heaven within a person now.

  • om my got!

she is singing with her soul... not just singing with her techniques simply..

in this song can feel all about her Pain Memories Complex ideas and some Earnest pray to Maria(Madonna)...

looks like really she is calling finding praying to Maria(Madonna)....

    this is amazing abolutly amazing!

  • @complice Well said! She definitely sings this from the deepest of her heart

  • Sumi Jo is fantastic. I don't really think opening your mouth would have much impact. I was taught to drop my jaw as far as it would go but in my experience and education the desired resonance (singers formant) is not achieved by opening your mouth maximally. It is achieved by the placement of your tongue in congruence with your laryngeal position and pharyngeal space. She sings wonderfully.

  • @thecritiquevirtuoso not one of clasically establised sigers would be able to sing with the collagen inserted in their lips. i hate ignorant people, but i really HATE disrespectful people like you. wt.... wtf are you?? gods.... :/ soooooooooooooo dissgusting.

  • She looks like she's got too much collagen in her lips.

  • I think The Sumi Jo is Nice Singer. from JPN.

  • @jaljet1 She's Korean. At first I was mistaken as you did.

  • Dedykuje ten utwór dla mojego Aniołka, kochanej Buziullki

    bbbttt TMisiek

  • I'm Speechless...so so beautiful.

  • me ha dejado a cuadros

  • Open mouth...who cares. She is amazing! She is a world-famous opera singer. For those who make comments about open or not open...give me a break! What do you do for living? I'm sure you are not a world famous opera singer who was trained by other world famous opera instructors. Please! It is like telling Michael Jordan how to dunk. Know your place, and just enjoy this amazing voice.

  • Simply beautiful..gave me chills

  • And You all have to remember, that piano in opera show is other than piano sung with microphone. Even if it's piano in opera you have to be heard in whole theatre, so it has to be properly loud. About loosing the breath - but you need to remember, that when you're 'working' with your diaph you give the pressure to vocal cords, so sometimes it could be dangerous not to open your mouth (But it is only my suspicion) ;)

  • Superb. I am speechless. After all there must be *some* kind of god to make mortal people able for creating something so beautiful...

  • @edin201x it can be evolutionary, not necessarily god. Singing is an attractive trait.

  • @allthenamesrtook - I prefer to open my mouth wide on every note I sing.. I know something about technique of singing, because I attend to classes in classical singing :)

    Regards :)

  • @DarthMaudus So let me see you give this song a crack and sing it better.. lol.. peace... its not how wide a mouth opens but what comes out from the heart.

  • @JesusGaveMeNewSoul I think you've missunderstood me... I didn't tell she's doing anything wrong. And believe me - hearth is very important, but you wouldn't sing like her with big hearth and without technique. Just for You to know: I'm not criticising...

  • @DarthMaudus Oh okay I thought you were dissing her.. my bad.. God BLess ya man... Alex -- PS - this is me - >>>>>>>>>>>>> watch?v=b6FTS8G6ZAE

  • @xxSmislaxx - She doesn't open her mouth just to get the effect of piano singing. Look - when she's singing high and loud notes she is opening her mouth widely, so she knows how to do it :) She just doesn''t need it while singing piano with the microphone...

  • @DarthMaudus true only during forte does the mouth need to be wide but you have to remember alot of opera singers chose to open the mouth wide for most singing as it tends to give more clarity on the pornunciation

  • She has a truly ethereal voice. Ethereal indeed.

  • Comment removed

  • @xxSmislaxx opening the mouth isn't strictly necessary in this kind of music. It isn't, for ex.,Opera, where you usually need to hold high notes giving them power not to let them"fall".This kind of music, these "low"notes (if compared to others)need sweetness. Not opening it much is also a way not to lose breath. I've been studying for3years & sang this in my 1st recital after a few months, and u're right, when not extremely trained, singers are told to open mouth more than they'd usually do.

  • @xxSmislaxx

This means that she's way better than you. You were told to open your mouth. Thats your problem. She is a professional singer with established vocal technique. She is free to open or close her mouth. Perhaps you should just close your mouth!

  • @hisyamuddinistari whoah...ok...shes amazing. i never said she wasnt ok so...why??? my comment was just stating a fact. why is it my problem coz i was told to open my mouth i mean jeez no eed tobe rude i was just stating aomething i noticed.

    <
