When the song ends there is a text "dagens övning" which in english means "todays practice".. But im not gonna do that, im going to be a rocketscientist instead, because its way easier..
Even though the title says Fredrik Thordendal medley this is a cut out from a swedish tv series called Drum with Morgan Ågren. The focus is supposed to be on Morgan as he is demonstrating some if his techniques used on the album Sol Niger Within. So please stop whining about the bottom strings not being used, I can assure you he knows how to use em
@inamoratasamazing this is from Fredrik Thordendal's side project, the cd is called Special Defects. A lot of what he plays is chuggy cause it's all about the polyrhythmic side of things but when he does is super jazzy solos he shows his true talent. Fredrik's a genius. Plus yeah it's a drumming video so they play the part where Fredrik is letting the drummer shine. Which indeed he does.
@VoyagerAbove the guitar is still in 4/4. its playing a 4/4 meter but its a syncopated so its sort of like a polymeter. its still 4/4 though. he changes riffs after X amount of 4/4 bars. meshuggah does the exact same thing, look up the interviews where they explain it
@BlessureK I think the most important part to finding the accents is to focus on the rests. Focus on where theres silence. Helps me find the groove easier so it can flow easier yanno.
ughhh...why does mike portnoy have to show up in the related video sections? especially a video titled "impossible drum solo by mike portnoy" this isn't even a solo and mike couldn't play this at all, and no way in hell could he play an actual solo from morgan agren....this "impossible" solo from mike portnoy is nothing but a trite display of FILLS....he's still good, his ideas are great....but that's it, he's creative but has no TRUE virtuosic skill!
El PAPI del Math Metal mierda!!! Thordendal = THE FUCKING "DADDY" OF ALL THE MATH/DJENT METAL BAND'S!!! fucking LOVE this guy and Meshuggah EVER!!! FUCK the "Djent" term... is simply "Shuggah Metal"!!!

@3074861 Lol... OMG the sky is falling! I'm pretty sure fredrik is just over laying 5/16-7/16 over top of a 3/4-4/4 phrasing. With a few other time switches. But still only based around 4 (8? how ever you want to count it) part phrasing. You should buy a metronome.
@mostlyjewish if anyone reads the interviews he has he says that everything they play in 4/4, its the grouping and phrasing of the notes that give it that feel you are absolooooooootly correct sir
@3074861 thats gotta be a joke right? they definitely didnt play a length of 93 8th notes to even give you a reference. polyrhythms are there ya, but in single digit increments, maybe a tad over. not in 50's and 90's. he would have to play 11 measures for there to even be 93 8th notes hit. i dont think they played 11 measures in 2 seconds.
Yah and the pronunciation is "Nigh" (like night) "Ger" like germ, or Germany. Niger and the other racist word that people might be thinking are two different words. Niger is a country in Africa...on a lighter note - I haven't heard a band outside of Meshuggah whose riffs are as earthy/gritty/ head smashing delicious. You *have* to nod your head to these riffs.
