  • "BRB gonna go fix the Galaxy, I'll be back in half hour".

  • so samus knows the arm pumping technique...

but does she know the fist pumping technique?

  • What controller do you use or is it a keyboard? config layout?

  • i think the amazing part was him getting out of space station in 10.99 seconds!!!!

  • or is there a world record time of less than this?

  • does this beat the one posted on Speed Demos?

That one is a 14% speedrun in 32 minutes

  • @cowboydan0 Technically, it doesn't. This run used slow down and save states and I'm pretty sure Speed Demos doesn't post runs with save states, slowdown, other utilities, etc

  • Wow... That was awe inspiring. This is my first time watching a Super Metroid speed run... this game is on my top 3 all time favorite video games list. I have beaten it at least 20 times... I thought I mastered this game. Very impressive

  • hes not really aiming down...hes prolly got the l button on speed or tapping in rythm this is called arm pump and it lets u gain a frame everytime u press tha button...also the hardest room in this part starts at 09:25

  • you did this with video cuts right... not all in one go... right? Even then, holy shit.

  • It's funny, when I play metroid games I do sort of a mix of a speed run and item search

  • I've also managed to get the Super Missile without the Speed Booster by rolling across the floor as a ball. It takes several tries and actually relies on luck to get through. Either that or it depends on which part of the floor you need to stand on before you roll across the floor in order to avoid falling down.

  • HOLY FUCK

  • i see this mentioned but can someone tell me in a simple sentence what arm pumping is?

  • '...not using any major glitches such as out of room traveling, boss skipping etc... kipped Torizo and Spore Spawn and collected early Super Missiles and Power Bombs.' Yeah...

  • @kraus199: The key word here is "major" glitches. And Torizo and Spore Spawn are only mini-bosses, not the 4 main bosses that I was referring to. Both of them can be skipped by simply using the arm-pumping tech, which is more a speed trick instead of a glitch.

  • @SaturnTAS Fair enough.

  • mach mal ein speedrun ohne tas :D

  • You must be fast as fuck to skip that statue battle!

    Epic 5/5

  • I think you got a record. I was on wikitroid yesterday and i saw the records. If you want to see them just look up wikitroids super metroid page and take a gander.

  • don't call it a speedrun when it's a TAS

  • wtf dude ur gr8

  • How did you get those first super missiles without the speed booster?

  • @turoniner: With the arm-pumping trick, as in pressing and releasing one of the aim buttons as fast as possible. Each pump pushes your horizontal position forward by one pixel, allowing to barely run though the gates.

  • @SaturnTAS is this the same reason why you're always aiming down when running around most of the time?

  • @turoniner you can also do the mockball for that and the early ice beam, just run outside the door and spinjump and u pass through it, then tap down once so ur crouching in the air, then morph to the ball as hitting the ground and you should be moving at dash speed (if u bounced in the ball u did it wrong)

  • I can honesly say I have never seen anyone do it this impressively...

  • @MaskedRobloxian3874 It's TAS-made ffs, its only art, not gameplay

  • Samus: "Ma, I'm going to save the world..."

Ma :"Ok, but be back in half an hour, dinner's ready..."

    Samus: "...ok"

  • @PhoenixFonta Hrmm, her mother is dead.

  • Arm Pumping? Thought mine was slowed down, lol.

  • Best I can get is 1:49 at 100%

  • I know this is PAS but still, this is pure cinema.

  • man have owned this game, few can 'own' this game.

  • im a retard so anyway what do you mean by tool assisted? like does it do anything special.

  • Ive owned this game for a few weeks now, and I cant play it cuz I need to get my SNES fixed. Anyway it has already become my favorite Metroid game. Sidescrolling! FTW!!!

  • How the hell do you run that fast?

  • TAS RUN TOOL ASSISTED!!!!!!!

  • Awesome video. How exactly do you do the backflip when you're damaged? It seems like it could helps alot.

  • Hold jump and after taking damage immediately the direction button you want to boost to (must always be Samus' back facing one).

  • God, I still beat this game once a year for nostalgic value, it is amazing

  • Your A GOD!!!

  • can u explain why not lower than 14% is possible in a legit way? Why need so many energy tanks, rockets and gravity suit?

  • Gravity Suit to exit Draygon's Lair, Energy Tanks to survive Mother Brain's Hyper Beam, and ammo to destroy her glass cage form.

  • my brother scaped ceres colony wth the counter in 00,00,03 then we thinked we are dead???? and boooooommmmm we escaped!

  • TAS means tool assisted speedrun! you hell-devil!

  • How about we just gangrape you in the ass and just show you how gay we are. :3

  • Dude, do you even know the process of making a TAS?

Wanna know why it's been taking saturn nearly three years now to finish his SM Redesign run?

When you're making a TAS, you have to work with the game frame by frame.

  • What is it with losers on the internet? I guess he flames people online so he can feel better about his crap life...

  • dude, shut the hell up. these TAS's are a piece of art and require alot of time and preparation. they only compete with other TAS's not realtime speedruns.

  • even so if you can beat it in under 2 hours I might give you some props to this. otherwise shut up Game is easy to beat in less then 2 hours my next trial is as low percent of a run as possible as fast as possible. best run so far 01:43 53%. So yeah... Beat that and I will give you some credit.

  • noob i play this game without tools in like 50 minutes

  • Do you have Proof?

  • im not sure if its the way you play or if you've sped up the gmae slightly, but it still looks incredible

  • Nope. Door transitions and item pickups don't count either.

  • You should do a Super Metroid Impossible TAS.

  • Already done by Cpadolf.

  • Didn't you create Super Metroid Impossible?

  • I did.

  • Please do a Super Metroid Impossible 100% TAS

  • question:

how you edited the rom? the rom is alwais broken with smile (i´ve 3 versions!)

the crumble block don´t work, after the (not real - only air) crumble blocks always destroy the rom! and how to edit the doors to reach a room early that WORKS!

  • Isn't it possible to skip that E-Tank at 7:28?

  • You need at least 3 E-Tanks to survive Mother Brains drain beam, so no.

  • Yes but he needs at least 3 energy tanks to surivive mother brain so as far as I know there's really 3 energy tanks that are along the pather you gotta take to complete the game so like the 1st one you just got touch it and keep running to the next room so because you need 3 e tanks that works for him.

  • So the bomb guardian doesn't count as a boss?

  • Not really, since he's only a mini-boss. "True" bosses are considered to be Kraid, Phantoon, Draygon, Ridley, and Mother Brain.

  • One of the best games ever made, bar none.

    Nice speedrun too!

  • what's the difference between a TAS and not?

I tried to look at their site but i cant understand a $hit of it.

    Can you tell me?

  • The difference is that in a TAS you use emulator features like slowdowns and savestates, that allow you to reach maximal precision in any move, while also giving you the possibility to redo the run at any point to correct mistakes. That basicly sums it up.

  • Comment removed

  • Do you use macros aswell? or is this not a function in emulators?

  • Macros aren't a function in emulators.

  • AMAZING MAN.

    this brings so many memories,

    i miss this game :[

first time took me a week to finish hahaha.

  • Do you absolutely have to jump like that to perform the torizo skip? I thought I saw a run where Cpadolf0 did it by just making a short hop....Maybe it's just me

  • Right, you can do it with a short hop, but this technique requires a unspin and some tricky subpixel optimization. However it only got discovered around a half year later, so I unfortunately wasn't aware of it at the time I recorded this run. It wouldn't make the slightest difference in the completion time though, so it's not that bad.

  • That sucks :/

  • this looks alot like Cpadolf0,,,

  • what was the category rule you broke? its too bad they rejected the run because it.

  • I didn't break any rule. It's just that some people there think that the amount of runs for the same game must be kept to the minimum, while completely ignoring the fact that some games like this one just allow for many different, yet unique runs many people would like to see. It didn't help that 90% of the audience there protested against it, either.

  • oh, thats harsh

  • Too bad. I think this run is pretty sick just like Cpadolf0

  • Dang, that's some bull man. This is a nice, well defined run too. You TAS guys put a lot of work into it and make a damn nice end product here. This is no exception!

  • Shame, cause this is the best run I've ever seen. Good job man!

  • This was awesome

  • pumping your arm down when you run makes you go faster? if im mistaken then how is it really done?

  • That's how it is. Each arm-pump pushes you one pixel forward, thus increasing your running speed by around 5-10% at optimal pump-frequency.

  • its meant to entertain its not like it has no purpose

  • ...

    Thats wrong.

Dont say stuff like that , Want me to talk about your xbox 360 games in a bad way.

Or make fun of the way you live?

  • I agree, though there's no need to be so serious about it. As to the comment beneath this one, don't add to the problem, mon stupide.

  • Ah, YouTube hates me. Ignore the second half of the statement; it shunted the comment I was addressing to the top.

  • Yeah but you dont need to be rude either.

Not you , You adressed it correctly and kindly. Thanks.

But what he said was totally wrong and should not have said that or watched this video if that wa all he was going to say..

  • Aaw, yeah, it DOES make you feel that way, dosn't it, Mr. No life?

  • you are too good

  • So what is this category restriction rule? Where can I read up on some of these rules?

  • how fast can you make ripley leave wihtout taking a hit? =]

  • He won't leave until you get below 30 HP, or shoot him many times. The latter is much slower though.

  • Hey saturn, I was going to do get every item 1 time. If I can use my sisters camra to upload. you'll understand what I mean once I get it uploaded.

  • Comment removed

  • how do you arm pump? do you just aim the diagonals really fast?

  • Yes.

  • sometimes when i am wall jumping my guy comes out of it do u know why

  • Because you press up or down. This must be avoided during a walljump.

  • i see. is it easier to play with a game cube controller or the classic remote

  • It is easier to play on a ROM ; ).

  • It's different for each player. I'm most comfortable on the original controller.

  • Yeah, I wasn't implying that the keyboard was easier than a controller, just that the CPU was easier than a console. It's sort of like saying marathons are easier on a motorcycle. It wasn't supposed to be serious.

  • thats cool how u intentionally hurt urself to like jump farther

  • HOLY SNAP u didnt even need to do mock ball @ 8:11 :OOO

dude wow you can get SOOO frame perfect w/ tool assist...wow

  • how come ur gun is always pointing down

  • That's the arm pumping trick that allows to run ~5% faster than usual. It's achieved by alternately pressing and releasing the aim-down button for every frame, hence the look that the gun is pointing down.

  • I'm more curious who in the hell finds these tricks. =P

  • I'm sad to see this run got rejected. I was waiting for an improvement on Terimakesih's run. I guess I waited too long to check, and see that you did it.

You've always been one of my favorite TASers, ever since I played your SM: Impossible, and you posted the teasers for your suitless run.

  • Correction: I meant the suitless reverse boss order run. I also liked your unassisted suitless run.

  • Thanks. Glad you like my work.

  • Why did this run get rejected? I didn't see the use of any real glitches, and everything seems legit.

  • It's because of a silly category restriction rule.

  • How are you able to run at across those bridges in Brinstar to get the Super Missiles? I've been trying my ass off doing it with morphing into a ball etc but nothing works. :P

  • Its called the "Mockball"

You run and jump, And you have to morphball Exactly when you hit the ground or else you fail , PS Failing is when you bounce.

  • sau geil!

  • I bet Halo is more your type, this game is much harder than any "new" FPS game.

  • Oh wait LOL you play RUNESCAPE!!!! Never mind, I need not interact with inferiior sub-humans who play shitty MMOs.

  • how did you get the super missle without mockball?

  • What speed did you play this at?

  • Running speed.

  • need 3 energy tanks to survive mother brain. I also think you need charge shot to beat her.

  • This run looks sweet. I wonder why you need the energy tank, though; certainly it speeds the run up a ton, but isn't the point supposed to be that this is the LOWEST percentage win attainable without major glitches? Why is that tank NECESSARY?

  • Now that I think about it, do you actually NEED charge beam? It seems all the bosses drop things that can give missiles, so theoretically they can be beaten with a single missile tank and no charge beam. Or am I missing something here?

  • Ok, I feel really stupid after that comment. Obviously you need charge beam for Ridley and Mother Brain.

  • ya i dont think ridley drops missiles

  • Mother Brain's Brain Beam is unavoidable without using major glitches, which is why he needs the energy tanks.

  • I always thought her beam did 0 damage if you had 1 hp left . . . I guess that makes sense, though.

That being said, I still think he could do without two of those super missile tanks.

  • The Super Missile tanks are required to destroy Mother Brains's glass cage in one turn. Leaving her room to recharge the Missiles at the station won't work, because the glass cage get's fully restored after reentering the room again.

  • Is her energy also restored by the time you get back to that room? If not, you could kill her with less ammo.

  • Oh, OK, I didn't realize the glass would regenerate. I understand why 14% is the minimum now (if you don't skip bosses).

One final question: Is it possible to skip ice beam and merely kill all the metroids with powerbombs like the 6% run without major glitches?

  • Yeah, not only the glass, MB's HP would be fully restored as well.

Ice Beam is required to get past the pre-Botwoon room by freezing the Mochtroid in the right position and use it as platform to ghost through some solid blocks. It's the only way if you don't have Speed Booster there.

  • OK, so ironically, the entire reason to pick up that item is to exploit a glitch to avoid picking up a differnet item. Well, whatever's fastest :). Awesome run.

  • Ice Beam is at least 1 minute faster in the end, simply because it does 50% more damage than the normal beam you have to use when picking up Speed Booster. It makes up for the losses of slower running speed/shinesparks, and actually saves even more time at the Mother Brain battle alone, with additional big time saver at Ridley and at the Metroids.
