@kinshasaAPP: You are completely missing what I said. Do re-read and try to comprehend what I'd written. I've seen this same footage on a PROPERLY TRANSFERRED version of the original 16mm film. It is quite good quality considering the age of the Cellulose Nitrate film. THAT's what I am looking for. Have you seen the April 1916 ORIGINAL Lunmiere Autochrome COLOR photo of a fully camouflaged Nieuport 11 (N 940) I cleaned up in Photo Shop and posted? Google images: "Nieuport in Color"
Since the Arc de Triumphe has two arches at right angles to each other, this manoeuvre is particularly dangerous. There can be a strong crosswinds, along with vortices inside the arch. A friend of his died some time before this while attempting the same stunt.
I know his daughter, now 88, she lives in San Diego. She doesn't have a computer so hasn't seen this clip. I'll be sure to show her next time she comes to visit.

@roygbiv330 Funny you should say that- Navarre, not Richthofen was the first to paint his fighter red. The camera set up could not have been more dramatic- talk about Gallic flair!
@TheSoundsage: And there was a good still shot as well. At least 4 cameras were used. Those aces needed the work. Nungesser lived off his war time reputation until his death attempting to cross the Atlantic immediately before Lindberg took off in April, 1927.
I remember that the guy even told France he was going to do it (or the media) and even gave a time and date. There is a ground footage to this I saw it back in the 80s . coverd by the news channel waiting
yeah, these days the Orwellian health & safety right-doers would step up and require the pilot to sign a disclaimer, triplicate his bodyweight with safety gear, and make sure every living organism within a radius of 800 yards from the spot would be removed and made safe for the organizer's lawyers' insurers utter piece of mind... sigh!

paullubliner 8 months ago
@paullubliner No, dipshit, it was recorded in 1919.

@iancole85: WHAT is your problem? I made no mention of date anywhere, in any comment. Besides being profane, you 're stupid.
paullubliner 8 months ago
@paullubliner Dude. It was filmed in 1919. What do you expect?

@kinshasaAPP: Thank you. I have seen this many, many years ago as a projected 16mm film and it was quite good considering it's age.

I made it through in FSX but then crashed going under the Eiffle Tower. I think it was a graphics deal because it looked like I had it cleared.

Who was Charles Godefroy ?
Gliderfan95 2 years ago
@Gliderfan95 : The guy who flew his unthrottleable, LeRhone rotary engined Nieuport sesqui-plane through the Arc de Triomphe. THAT's who.
