  • This images come from a chapter of "Les Actualités Françaises" (11/08/1965). You probably can get better quality versions contacting french INA

  • IS THERE ANOTHER VERSION OF THIS WITH AT LEAST GOOD IMAGE QUALITY?

  • @paullubliner No, dipshit, it was recorded in 1919.

  • @iancole85: WHAT is your problem? I made no mention of date anywhere, in any comment. Besides being profane, you 're stupid.

  • @paullubliner Dude. It was filmed in 1919. What do you expect?

  • @kinshasaAPP: You are completely missing what I said. Do re-read and try to comprehend what I'd written. I've seen this same footage on a PROPERLY TRANSFERRED version of the original 16mm film. It is quite good quality considering the age of the Cellulose Nitrate film. THAT's what I am looking for. Have you seen the April 1916 ORIGINAL Lunmiere Autochrome COLOR photo of a fully camouflaged Nieuport 11 (N 940) I cleaned up in Photo Shop and posted? Google images: "Nieuport in Color"

  • @paullubliner Oooh mister photography pro. Well, no. There is no other higher quality film on the internet. Damn.

  • @kinshasaAPP That IS what I was asking about. Loose the attitude.

  • @paullubliner Okay I'll "loose" it. ;)

  • @kinshasaAPP: Thank you. I have seen this many, many years ago as a projected 16mm film and it was quite good considering it's age.

  • Must have been too fucking badass back in 1919.

  • Since the Arc de Triumphe has two arches at right angles to each other, this manoeuvre is particularly dangerous. There can be a strong crosswinds, along with vortices inside the arch. A friend of his died some time before this while attempting the same stunt.

  • @beesonthenet a friewnd died doing the same stunt? was there any damage to the arc itself?

  • I know his daughter, now 88, she lives in San Diego. She doesn't have a computer so hasn't seen this clip. I'll be sure to show her next time she comes to visit.

  • I made it through in FSX but then crashed going under the Eiffle Tower. I think it was a graphics deal because it looked like I had it cleared.

  • username inamidst

    help! besides G.I. joe

what other movies feature arc de triomphe? :D

  • i wonder what would happen if the biplane was a little bit bigger than this one

  • @Shoarma2 The same thing that would happen if the Arc de Triomphe was a little smaller!

  • @Shoarma2 26 1/2 foot wingspaned Nieuport 23 it looks like.

  • was the red bull plane racing held there in those days?

  • sadly,no redbull air races in paris, the seine river is way too narrow

  • @roygbiv330 Funny you should say that- Navarre, not Richthofen was the first to paint his fighter red. The camera set up could not have been more dramatic- talk about Gallic flair!

  • @TheSoundsage: And there was a good still shot as well. At least 4 cameras were used. Those aces needed the work. Nungesser lived off his war time reputation until his death attempting to cross the Atlantic immediately before Lindberg took off in April, 1927.

  • @roygbiv330 Those wusses couldn't handle this.

  • Who was Charles Godefroy ?

  • @Gliderfan95 : The guy who flew his unthrottleable, LeRhone rotary engined Nieuport sesqui-plane through the Arc de Triomphe. THAT's who.

  • Now that was flying!

    Close!

Flying under the Eiffel Tower is nothing compared to this.

  • This is Amazing !

  • no one has ever flown through the opening in the EDS building in Plano...yet

  • I remember that the guy even told France he was going to do it (or the media) and even gave a time and date. There is a ground footage to this I saw it back in the 80s . coverd by the news channel waiting

  • awesome footage

  • yeah, these days the Orwellian health & safety right-doers would step up and require the pilot to sign a disclaimer, triplicate his bodyweight with safety gear, and make sure every living organism within a radius of 800 yards from the spot would be removed and made safe for the organizer's lawyers' insurers utter piece of mind... sigh!
