This is a fail but not because of messed up lyrics. Her voice is just too strong. She overdoes a lot of the notes. I've always thought her voice was way too strong for regular pop music. She really should consider a career move to opera. Her voice is strong enough for that genre. So I am not saying she isn't talented; I'm saying she is "over-qualified" for pop music and the national anthem.
I'm not American, but I find their anthem beautiful. Christina Aguilera is a talented singer, yes.
The problem here, in my humble opinion, is that she tried to bring honor to herself, not her country. She can do so with regular songs, but it is the National Anthem here. In a National Anthem the center is nation itself, its people, its history, their ancestors, etc. In this context, the singer, however good he/she is, it's just a (very good) citizen, very apt for the task given.
