  • Fresh? Fresh?! That's some serious BS right there.

  • Big wheels were the best...I think.

  • i fell for the recent Hostess "retro" packaging and bought many boxes. They still taste good but are sooo fattening and really bad for you. I am now off the sugar wagon. i say NO to snack cakes! lol

  • Look at how much bigger the cakes and pies were then than they are now.

  • Big wheels were beyond delicious!!! My Nana always had them when I would visit. I absolutely loved the 1970s(and my Nana). Snackcakes taste horrible nowadays.

  • Kids weren't fat back then for a couple of reasons- 1. We actually got out and played and didn't text, play video games all day or watch tv all day! 2. The reason this commercial plays up the mother saying "no" all the time is because parents only sparingly gave us treats like this and fast food-it wasn't the norm, not stocked in pantries all the time and we certainly never had fast food every day-that's why we weren't fat and that's why these were treats back then!

  • Anne Blyth was kind of an old mom for this commercial -- unless conceived all those kids between her late 30s and early 40s

  • That is a HUGE ASS fruit pie at 0:15 !!

  • @store275

That's how big they were back then. It's pathetic what they sell you now for so much more money.

  • there's a hilarious episode of DESIGNING WOMEN that mentions this commercial- Charlene is talking about the movie MILDRED PIERCE, and she says that Ann Blyth never did any really big movies after that, but did show up many years later in Hostess Cupcake commercials. She mentions how Blyth would announce herself in the commercial, how many people actually remember Blyth, and then concludes, "you know, I don't think the cupcake-buying public was all that impressed..."

  • I wonder how many people the Hostess Corporation gave DIABETES too with this garbage. I wonder how many kids also developed obesity because of this poison

Unfortunately while I am not a Marxist I must say that there is no morality or ethics in Capitalism. It is screw or be screwed. Do unto others and post a BIG profit. The Health and Well being of your customers/victims takes 3rd or 4th place.

AND 40 plus years on this crap is STILL being fed to our hapless kids and Hostess is as rich as ever

  • @NolanRogers2

Ummm...Hostess just came out of bankruptcy, so they are not as rich as ever.

  • Ann Blythe is an actress who was popular in the '50s.

Big Wheels is the name Hostess used to market Ding Dongs in areas where Drake's Ring Dings were sold (such as New England).

  • @rockhopper10r Actually, her name is spelled "Blyth". Excuse me.

  • The Americans have an interesting concept of "freshness." And who's Ann Blythe?

  • Those kids had better watch their mouths ... the former Veda Pierce knows her way around firearms!

  • Big Wheels were Ding Dongs now King Dongs for the OBVIOUS reasons...pervs!! LOL!!

  • "Being a Mother is not a popularity contest"...with that hairdo and scary housecoat, of course it isn't!!

  • Wow, how strange is it, watching this today, that they actually try to imply (without directly saying so) that Twinkies and Fruit Pies are HEALTHY snack choices?

  • big wheels had the indian on it till real indians got all uppity over it!

  • I'd love to have that vintage Big Wheels box!

  • hahaha let the fattening begin

  • The Big Wheel character was an Indian chief who would probably be considered politically incorrect today.

  • That fruit pie was huge!

Cool looking sky blue kitchen appliances, too.

  • Big wheels were ding dongs

  • Who is the little girl in this commercial?

  • Sweet little Eileen

  • Wait a minute Big Wheels are Drakes Ring Dings!~

  • no they're Hostess Ding Dongs.

  • Did she say "Big Whhhhheels?"

  • I'm getting hungry.
