Aeroman, can you give more details of this flight because that captain sound sounds like me! I may be the captain for your flight that day! I work for SIA a380 pilot.
ok A380 is awesome! but one thing I was dissapointed was that when you're taking off, its really quiet. One of the main reasons I enjoy flying is hearing the sound of those engines :D
mwahahha im going to take the A380 for the first time at the end of this month (October), Zurich to Singapore! cant wait they are by far the best airline ive ever taken (best in the world). keep it up :D dont forget to save me a seat when you get your first space ship! this thing is huge!
Currently only Lufthansa unfortunatly. Maybe when it`s flying and some better than expected real world performance comes out. But at the moment the A380 has a substantial CASM advantage.
Lufthansa always has had a very diverse mix of aircraft and is very smart in deploying aircraft in such a way to maximise profit. But don
(cont. from previous reply) > But don`t forget it`s pretty certain Lufthansa got a substantial discount on the airframes as they are the launch customer of -8i. These discounts can eleviate the CASM disadvantage for a while and at the same time give Lufthansa even more flexibility.
But Lufthansa`s case is a niche. And IMHO the 747-8i will be a nice aircraft, like the A340-500/600 are today. Serving a few routes were it beats the A380. But the A380 is more efficient on the majority of routes
Indeed, at least the classical lines of the 747 will grace the skies, even if it is "only" the 747-8F.
In my opinion the 747 is the Porsche 911 of the airliner world. Both have the timeless beauty and lines of a true classic. Where I see the A380 as the new big, efficient family van full with the latest gadgets and technology.
As both an aviation-geek and a gadget-geek, both get my pretty excited :)
I can't hear anything. It sounds more like passing wind, rather than four large engines at full throttle! Airbus has come a long way... making the world's largest (commercial) plane that doesn't sound overly loud!
Dont forget the famous "barking dog" on the A320 family. Always gets the nervous flyers going haywire :)
But from my experience, and except the barking dog, Airbus is not louder then any other airliner when it comes to mechanical noise. And when it comes to noise during cruise IMHO most Airbusses (esp. the A340) are way quieter then their competitors (the 777 is quite loud in cruise)
Very annoying flaps sound, Airbus got to be. I heard that the A380 soon wont fly anymore because airports need to make a special gate for that monster. Also the taxiway is not wide enough
Maybe a silly question but why did the member of the cabin crew say "make sure your window shades are up"?...never heard that before. Great vid! Cant believe how quiet it is! :-)

what does the 800 in the A380 -800 stand for?
comsfan09 6 months ago
This and the 777-300ER are today's quietest planes. Compare it with the dreadful CF6/RB211 powered 747 which really deafens.

Really enjoyed the video. Amazing those huge flaps.

Engines are near silent, but those flaps/slats are as loud as heck.

Awesome video!
Looks like you can also see the 'Wunala Dreaming' in the background!
And if you stop at takeoff and go back to the beginning, you can really see this nice wingflex!
I'll also fly via SYD in summer, but I'll go to Auckland with Qantas! So, i think I'll have to fly 747... :( Would love to fly this quiet bird!

That sound indicates the gear retracting. It is common in Airbus birds.

im amazed i have no idea how they managed to make it so quiet i couldnt even hear the engines powering up.
were yout rying to say that the wings are so large they create that much lift that condensation is created?
ive never heard that theory before.
lol and if i heard the sound those made on a boeing i would shit my pants.
