This wasn't Andrew Strong singing, it was Robert Arkins, (Jimmie Rabbitte) the guy that played the manager. It wasn't used in the film, neither was him sitting on stage singing with the band, on here under 'commitments, unseen footage' he has a good voice too!
The main voice here is Andrew Strong. After his performance in The Commitments, the world was his for the taking. He could have been the voice of the decade. But sadly the opportunity was missed. I noticed he had toured Australia around 2000 but that was all I ever heard of him performing. I thought his voice was a real gem.
I hope I'm wrong. But I line in Ireland and have never seen a gig advertised or Album of Andrew.
@truthbetoldni - I'm pretty sure that the main voice on this is actually Robert Arkins, who played Jimmy Rabbitte. He also sings the opening credits song, Treat Her Right.
@truthbetoldni Andrew Strong made at least one album after The Commitments film as I have it - simply called "Strong" it's 10 tracks include (she's) some kind of wonderful, this bitter earth and an extended version of aint nothin you can do.
Maybe not the very best white version, but still a nice version :-) I especially like the fine organ tones, suttle and gentle, like the song itself. Lennons is a bit too rock´n roll to me, but Eric Burdens live version form 2006 is good.
Also try David Elliots version from the "Ali" movie (about Muhammad Ali with Will Smith, one of his best parts), that song is full of energy :-).
The most relaxing and yet stirring music for me. I am not a fan of original versions of these many songs, but the movie introduced me to a great appreciation and interest. Wish there were more of this type of music in the future.
this is by far one of my fav the commitment songs....God I love this movie so much. After years of watching the movie and listening to the soundtrack i'm now starting to read the book
Try Sam Cooke's version or Sam Cooke doing "Summertime."
That'll show you how it's done.

It's got nothing to do with colour! It's something you feel inside! Peel back our skins and we're all the same! ;-)
Now, pick a nipple and try again! :-D

Lou Rawls made a nice funky version of this song. It's on his album 'Bring it on home to me. It's fantastic, as well as Sam's own version is it.
