SCSU has been a pretty consistent team under Bob Motzko. We were ranked 2 a few years back, top 5 for a long time this season, made it to the NCAA 2 of the last 4 seasons. So you ARE correct, one good season.

Why does Marvin get suspended for 1 & 3 games (the 1 was earned) for hitting stupid players and aggravating concussions. But a player who broke the jaw of Nick Leddy doesn't even get a minor penalty!?
1) Really, he just skates in for a center ice hit and happens to make contact to the head. It was a good attempt at a shoulder check. A 2 minute 'contact to the head' penalty is acceptable because he was clearly just going for a legal hit that went bad.
2) He and Genoway were both playing with mild concussions. This is not supposed to be allowed because things like this occur. Marvin just happens to be a large forward who plays a physical game. Hockey is a contact sport, you know?

I was at the game in person in Madison and it was definitely a illegal hit. Mike Eaves had a reason to be chewing out refs as this was a pure head shot. The WCHA has been so lax in its discipline process as they are going to let it slide by.

The WCHA has made contact to the head a no tolerance policy. The hit's illegal because of the contact, but was intended to be a typical open ice hit. This was just a 2-minute contact minor.
At the beginning of the season the officials called contact to the head tight in most of the games that I watched (I watch 2 or 3 teams every weekend). They have relaxed on it late in the season and shouldn't.
The bad refs like D. Shepherd and Adam need to get fired. They let games get way too out of hand.

well the media has been talking about college hockey and the struggles it has had losing so many players to major juniors in Canada = no cages, lax fighting rules = much more like NHL, so you would assume many players are more interested in adapting to the pro game than NHL. So they could change rules to be more like juniors or NHL. Or they could maintain the unique aspect of allowing players to play in a tightly managed league with masks and no fights.

The WCHA should allow more people to hunt heads in revenge, stop dishing out suspensions. That's why college hockey is strugglin.
Allowing that sort of conduct is exactly why the league is struggling. Crack down on hits to the head, and hand down something more than a single game suspension when incidents like Genoways occur. The WCHA has a responsibility to protect its players, so far Shepherd and Mcleod have shown no desire to do so.
How about removing the cage instead? Lets see how many dirty hits Marvin and others are willing to dish out when they're a bit more vulnerable on the ice after the fact.

Having watched Aaron Marvin throughout his SCSU career I can tell you that he is not a cheap player. He's had a total of TWO major penalties in his career. The last of which set down Chay Genoway. He did not intend to hit him in the manner that he did. No one felt worse about that hit than he did. The hit in this video was and open ice check that was miss timed. He wasn't aiming for his head. This was a clean hit and dont kid yourself geoffrion has a lot of dirty hits too. When they were @ scsu this year he checked mike lee down and the badgers scored and he got no penaly and it was still a goal and the next time he was on the ice he checked laasch from behind and lassch had to leave the game. 1) Really, he just skates in for a center ice hit and happens to make contact to the head. It was a good attempt at a shoulder check. A 2 minute 'contact to the head' penalty is acceptable because he was clearly just going for a legal hit that went bad.
2) He and Genoway were both playing with mild concussions. This is not supposed to be allowed because things like this occur. Marvin just happens to be a large forward who plays a physical game. Hockey is a contact sport, you know?

I was at the game in person in Madison and it was definitely a illegal hit. Mike Eaves had a reason to be chewing out refs as this was a pure head shot. The WCHA has been so lax in its discipline process as they are going to let it slide by.
My question is how many more players are going to get hurt this way until the WCHA takes action?
If the WCHA continues the way they are on this issue, they could be one serious injury away from getting a big time lawsuit in a court of law

The WCHA has made contact to the head a no tolerance policy. The hit's illegal because of the contact, but was intended to be a typical open ice hit. This was just a 2-minute contact minor.
At the beginning of the season the officials called contact to the head tight in most of the games that I watched (I watch 2 or 3 teams every weekend). They have relaxed on it late in the season and shouldn't.
The bad refs like D. Shepherd and Adam need to get fired. They let games get way too out of hand.

well the media has been talking about college hockey and the struggles it has had losing so many players to major juniors in Canada = no cages, lax fighting rules = much more like NHL, so you would assume many players are more interested in adapting to the pro game than NHL. So they could change rules to be more like juniors or NHL. Or they could maintain the unique aspect of allowing players to play in a tightly managed league with masks and no fights.

Allowing that sort of conduct is exactly why the league is struggling. Crack down on hits to the head, and hand down something more than a single game suspension when incidents like Genoways occur. The WCHA has a responsibility to protect its players, so far Shepherd and Mcleod have shown no desire to do so.
How about removing the cage instead? Lets see how many dirty hits Marvin and others are willing to dish out when they're a bit more vulnerable on the ice after the fact.

They have been 'cracking down' on hits to the head. Watch the first half of the season for most teams, it was called for even the most gentle contact. I agree that it needs to be addressed, but Marvin was just going for a shoulder check and Geoffrion had his head down (a HUGE mistake in hockey).

thats a dirty hit in my opinion. he has him in site from the beginning of the video, and had an angle on him that he could have a layed an amazing shoulder check but he changed his angle to be in front of the guy and threw his shoulder up straight to the other players head. plenty of other places you can hit guys.

Or the anticipated him skating forward and not practically stand still and keep his head down. The poor play was by Geoffrion. PS. HE WAS PLAYING WITH A CONCUSSION IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Marvins conduct this season represents everything that is wrong with the higherups in the WCHA. This is not the first, but the second time that he has deliberately injured another player. What does Mcleod do? Absolutely nothing. He hands down a single game suspension (a slap on the wrist everywhere else) and expects it to end. If the WCHA isn't going to protect its players than their teammates do. But what happens when you do? You're suspended, like Lamoureux was for even challenging Marvin.

Having watched Aaron Marvin throughout his SCSU career I can tell you that he is not a cheap player. He's had a total of TWO major penalties in his career. The last of which set down Chay Genoway. He did not intend to hit him in the manner that he did. No one felt worse about that hit than he did. The hit in this video was and open ice check that was miss timed. He wasn't aiming for his head. It should've been a penalty, yes, but it was not intentional. Get over yourselves badger fans

If Marvin felt SO bad about his hit on Chay Genoway, I would think that might stay in his head just a little bit when he lays the the next hit to someone elses head. Didn't thinik so. Any wonder the reputation is growing? I like tough hockey but Marvin's dancing on the line now. He'll get his dues someday, somewhere.

I really don't see anyone's argument here. Seriously. Geoffrion has his head down with the puck! Any player would hit him at that point. He was just expecting him to skate forward, not just stand there. Unfortunate hits happen in contact sports, you can't penalize someone for an incident. All this should have warranted was a 2 minute 'contact to the head' and move on.
He'll get his dues? Really? Do you see how much of a hypocrite you're being? PS. Lamoureux had a chance and backed out.

it supprising that everyone is upset about this hit if you know hockey a defending team is looking to check you or intercept yoor teams pass on a breakout. penalty or not Geoffrion was not paying attention and got rocked. marvin was simple putting a check on.

Clean hit. Didn't even look like he caught that much of him. Elbow was down as well. If they stop allowing hits and checking in hockey, bring out the dresses and have the players wear them.

you are a fuckin' tool, clean hit? There is " ZERO TOLERANCE" for contact to the head in the WCHA. It doesn't matter where his elbow is, he hit him in the head with his shoulder.

Relax there buddy. No need to get worked up here- referees in this league are terrible and if littler things would get called, excalation to bigger hits and bigger fights wouldn't happen. It was contact to the head and should have been called, but the "fair and impartial" referees in this league apparently didn't see that. What a surprise.

It doesn't matter if it's a cheap hit or not. Every time a player gets hurt after a questionable hit by Marvin, he will be chastised due to his developing reputation.

If that's the HS video you are talking about, what exactly is in that video that's even a penalty? Furthermore do you really think Central Scouting is going to make a video for teams to evaluate potential draft picks with dirty hits in it? Use your brain.

Wow... way to talk shitty about someone who is simply a physical hockey player. The play should have been called, I will give you that- it was contact to the head. However, no player usually intends to hurt someone so they are forced to sit in the box or be suspended from a game. Why you bother bringing his family into this is stupid. I know his dad and he isn't a goon, and quite frankly, I have heard just the opposite about Gigi.

Maybe you should learn how open ice hits are orchestrated. The shoulder lift was to get more impact into the hit. It was a misjudgment of where Geofrrion would have been on the ice if he had actually skated down ice.
