Good luck with your generator.
the "free" energy comes from the magnet, thanks to the tension provided between the north and south magentic poles and the flux field created between them. so no, its not free, because the Mother Nature may send you an invoice in the mail someday. Probably won't; <3 Nature :-) Permanent magnets are a great source of natural energy, and can possibly be aggregated
Why do people say "free" energy? No energy is "free", it is just converted from one form to another. I mean think about a generator like the one in this video, he didn't get a current till he moved the magnet or hinge that's because he needed the energy from his arm muscles to move the magnet and the energy you get out in the current is basically converted from energy in his arm. If you say free in terms of money then it depends on how much you spend on food really doesn't it?
when you bring the link between magnet and hinge hinge act as a magnet and when you make relative motion between hinge and coil electricity is produced. this is already attempted experiment attempted by faraday back in 1831.
@torau666 - This is a demonstration of Faraday's law. It just appears in a different format than typical demonstrations which involve relative motion between the conductor or the magnet.

@Toerme The wire used is "magnet wire" which has enamel insulation on it. The insulation is required to ensure that current flows through all turns without short circuiting between turns which would reduce the effective number of turns.
It seems that there is relative motion!.... the magnet has been tranfered to the hinge and the hinge moves in relative motion to the coil.... did I miss something??
@electricpete1 The hinge is a magnet, it just happens to require the permanent magnet to energize it. Electrons get pushed around whenever magnetic strength changes.
i think if the magnetic feild were able to be seen you would see it extend out from the magnet through the hinge and also into the core when you make and break the contact and the movement of that feild is what produces the power; the same as if u were holding the magnet and moving it.
Always good to see basics. We need to remember these but I am glad he reminded me of the stupid thing I forgot about reversing the polarity of the magnet.
My poser is what if you feed it through other material than the steel hinge? What about aluminium, barillium tin, etc? Alsso monitor the voltage of the LEDs _/
This a great demonstration, it reminds me of an IC gate. If the magnets were replaced with a power supply, and the hinge replaced with an IC gate you would have the same effect.
The comments of the idiots never cease to amaze me. This was a great demonstration of general physics, and a great way to get people thinking out of the box. I do not recall anywhere him saying it was free energy, or that it was effortless for him to make and break the connection. People need to get a grip. This is a great video and very well explained, thanks. 5 Stars for sure.
@derman077 Stack of neo's would work great. Although it would be kind of bear to break that connection. Really strong neo's will make it feel almost as if it is glued down every time you try to lift it. But still, a great little project.
In this case it's not a free energy! This phenomena is called induction. Changin magnetic flux thru the coil induces voltage. But the induction produces braking effect, in this case to man's hand. How can you test it yourself? Easy. Take a DC motor with brushes, which is very common. Try to spin it by your fingers. It spins quite freely. Now wire aome bulb or make short circuit on the contacts and try spinning it now. You will feel the difference in your fingers.
you need not think about it too much its obvious, don't waste your time with physics demonstrations. look into real energy generation like tokamak reactors and plasma physics.
also consider, you're using energy to open and close the hinge, and if you got a machine to do this, it would also require energy to move the hinge, not only that, you're losing some to the click sound it makes and also to heat.
I think the theory behind steorns free energy is that the magnet wil naturaly attarct towards the coil producing inductance and the energy, if you charge the coil with a current its no longer magnet so if you time the charging of the coils perfectly you should get continues motion.
@electricpete1 Have you taken this any further? Perhaps there is a way that you could incorporate another magnet and compression springs to keep the hinge in a continuous motion and the leds would at least flicker constantly. There are dozens of 'over unity' machine video's here on you tube now, but this one you are demonstrating is different from any I have seen so far. Thanks for the very informative video.
@electricpete1 Alas, I think you are wrong, don't you see that if you had a metal arm that rolls over multiple coils broken by plastic areas to make it a continuous smooth roll- the led's would continue to light up by the contact? I'd imagine that the metal wheel connected to a distributing arm without grease in the bearings would maybe have some difficulty leaving some contacts, yet would be attracted as well if such a force were to come. See my Leedskalnin video. might give you ideas.
@Danster82 the coil supplies current in one direction per instance, larger coil needed to produce the power has a slow response, in other words the coil decides when to light the leds, and it's a relatively long time after the air gap's toggled.. but another note the magnets potential will decrease with every use; they run out
@301001082 he's not a fool, and youre a troll. none of the words you said had any meaning in the arrangement you put them in. @electricpete1 sorry the free energy nuts have hijacked your comment section. This does a good job showing that anything you do to change the total flux through a coil will generate electrical power.
@htomerif wrong! i'm a troll he's a fool, and you're a dumbass, the magnetic flux decreases, it's not permanent and a basic understanding of induction explains the negative current i don't think you know what is happening..?
the vid says "no relative motion between" changing the permeability of the magnetic circuit is identical to motion, therefore "with relative motion" hence fool
@301001082 i think you must investigate about MAGNETIC INTERRUPTION SHIELDING!. the trick is not gain the full power generation due closing the magnetic field, this will cause magnetic repulsion by load and stop the machine. this method is for reduction of the lenz effect
@vambreace "MAGNETIC INTERRUPTION SHIELDING" explain, sound irrelevant! ...but there is no more to investigate after basic inductor behavior, as permeability varies
@301001082 MAGNETIC INTERRUPTION SHIELDING, is only the interruption of magnetic flux by a iron or steel piece. EX: if you have a coil with a magnet in front of it you must cut the magnetic field for electric generation. you have to move or spin the magnet. right, but you leave the magnet on your position and make pass a metal piece through the magnet and coil, that will to cut the magnetic flow from the magnet to the coil and you will get electric generation on the coil, and no lenz effect
@Danster82 All you need here is the famous "Faraday's Law of Induction":
we use "S" for closed loop integral, (Phi)b for magnetic flux, d/dt for time derivative and E for electric field.
S E*dl = - d(Phi)b /(dt)
This law means that a change in magnetic flux will induce a voltage difference in the space around it. If there is conductor there somewhere it will have current flowing in it.
Note that the "minus sign" in the equation points out the direction of the current (Lenz's law).
The hinge becomes a temporary magnet as it's obviously Ferris. In effect your moving a magnet, and by extension changing the magnetic field effecting the coil. While your experiment certainly shows that you can move the hinge, and not the permanent magnet, it's false to say that the magnet is not moving. That hinge is very much a magnet in this case.
A small 9V battery could power the 555 timer circuit with multiple MOSFETs, and be able to produce more than 500% unity compared to the power required to make it run. The bigger the coil and stronger the magnets, the sky is the limit!
What people fail to realize, is that the use of MOSFET transistors would be able to produce free energy with a 555 timer circuit. More MOSFETs = higher amperage. Bifilar or Trifilar or Quadfilar might be the way to go to get more amps too.
This is a great proof of concept. High speed switching is the solution! Try to incorporate the bedini circuit into this setup for ultimate results!!!
Very interesting, but I would like to point out that what you are doing is magnetising the hinge, so this device is still powered by the motion of a magnet, its just not the bar magnet itself.
Faraday's law - Voltage is equal to number of turns times time rate of change of flux. Opening and closing the magnetic circuit creates changing flux.
thanks friend i am working on an invention for this will you please build me one of these, i need to show this to a friend. i do not need anything fancy. i just have very little time to build this myself. i know how much time it takes to wrap the coils if you can build one i will pay with paypal thanks
This actually works. I tried building and I was amazed by how easy it is. If you want full step by step guide on how to build home magnetic generator, click my channel
It may not have been the best term. An example of effective insulation would be a split in the washers which interrupts the potential loop for current flow around the washers (encirlcing the bolt)
Relative to what? In regards to relativity. The hinge does produce a relative function.
So you must reillistrate the perception here, because the hinge is relative to the magnetic force. And the flux is endeavour to the hinge. Wrong choice of words.
It's possible this is happening because the hinge is magnetized and is moving close to the coil. Maby as a a check of all this, maby you can move the other side of the hinge instead - the one one top of the magnet.
This is a great demonstration of the fundamentals behind Bearden's MEG. I wonder though, after watching this a few times, if it is the completion of the flux path that causes the power surge, or is it simply the mass of the magnetized hinge racing toward the coil at high speed the moment before it touches? I'd like to see the flux path redirected with a mechanism that uses much less energy. Bearden used secondary coils to reroute flux, but i still wonder about total power in/output. Any data?
You can do a little better if you use a bundle of iron rods. Iron wire works. If you don't mind a square core, sheet metal also works.
The trick in all these cases is to insulate the core material so that the iron can't look like a shorted turn to the coil. Any current that flows in the iron prevents some current in the copper coil.
Thanks. I agree that a core insulated parallel to the bolt would be better to prevent current circulating in the core. This was just an easier way to build it.
By the way, the demo is a lot better on the video before I uploaded it to youtube. Tthe LED flashes EVERY single time you open or close the magnetic circuit. Somehow the youtube video compression throws away the flash if it doesn't last long enough... so the result that you see looks like there is no flash half the time.
I figured that there was some "aliasing" going on between the LED flashes and the video frame rate. The sometimes blink sometimes not effect doesn't make sense
BTW: It doesn't matter how you make more and less flux go down the center of the coil so there are lots of other mechanical methods you could use. I have seen it done using the teeth of a very large gear. It was part of a machine that needed the gear for its own purposes. It powered a display of how fast the gear was going.
It's science!

301001082 1 year ago
@301001082 i think you must investigate about MAGNETIC INTERRUPTION SHIELDING!. the trick is not gain the full power generation due closing the magnetic field, this will cause magnetic repulsion by load and stop the machine. this method is for reduction of the lenz effect
vambreace 1 year ago
@vambreace "MAGNETIC INTERRUPTION SHIELDING" explain, sound irrelevant! ...but there is no more to investigate after basic inductor behavior, as permeability varies
301001082 1 year ago
@301001082 MAGNETIC INTERRUPTION SHIELDING, is only the interruption of magnetic flux by a iron or steel piece. EX: if you have a coil with a magnet in front of it you must cut the magnetic field for electric generation. you have to move or spin the magnet. right, but you leave the magnet on your position and make pass a metal piece through the magnet and coil, that will to cut the magnetic flow from the magnet to the coil and you will get electric generation on the coil, and no lenz effect
vambreace 1 year ago
@Danster82 All you need here is the famous "Faraday's Law of Induction":
we use "S" for closed loop integral, (Phi)b for magnetic flux, d/dt for time derivative and E for electric field.
S E*dl = - d(Phi)b /(dt)
This law means that a change in magnetic flux will induce a voltage difference in the space around it. If there is conductor there somewhere it will have current flowing in it.
Note that the "minus sign" in the equation points out the direction of the current (Lenz's law).

With all the corrections on your video aside... for those of us just starting on this journey it was fun to watch.

That hinge is very much a magnet in this case.
quellenathanar 2 years ago
Forgot to add that diodes may be necessary...
A small 9V battery could power the 555 timer circuit with multiple MOSFETs, and be able to produce more than 500% unity compared to the power required to make it run. The bigger the coil and stronger the magnets, the sky is the limit!
WilliamTapley 2 years ago
What people fail to realize, is that the use of MOSFET transistors would be able to produce free energy with a 555 timer circuit. More MOSFETs = higher amperage. Bifilar or Trifilar or Quadfilar might be the way to go to get more amps too.
This is a great proof of concept. High speed switching is the solution! Try to incorporate the bedini circuit into this setup for ultimate results!!!

Relative motion between the magnetic "field" and the coil
kokopelli314 2 years ago 2
I agree. It is a demonstration of Faraday's law... just a different form than usual.
electricpete1 2 years ago
it takes energy to move that hinge...
manwar999 2 years ago
Very interesting, but I would like to point out that what you are doing is magnetising the hinge, so this device is still powered by the motion of a magnet, its just not the bar magnet itself.

where do you buy a permanent magnet
aznboi563 2 years ago
Buy magnets at Radio Shack or better is ebay for the neodymium super magnets.

can you post the formula you used to derive this thought? thanks again

Faraday's law - Voltage is equal to number of turns times time rate of change of flux. Opening and closing the magnetic circuit creates changing flux.
electricpete1 2 years ago
thanks friend i am working on an invention for this will you please build me one of these, i need to show this to a friend. i do not need anything fancy. i just have very little time to build this myself. i know how much time it takes to wrap the coils if you can build one i will pay with paypal thanks
ncbookz 2 years ago
well... the hinge just acts to extend the magnets field... so you are actually moving the magnet.

does the number of turns on the coil matter? also the gauge?
stupidguyaabbcc 2 years ago
im using #30 gauge to create mine for a school project...my teacher recomended it.
Apossesedsock 2 years ago
more turns the better. high gauge the thinner. higher the better.

Where did you find steel washers? All I can find these days in zinc.

Again, may I ask what is meant by electricpete1's
phrase "a core insulated parallel to the bolt "?
grifflesnaffle 2 years ago
It may not have been the best term. An example of effective insulation would be a split in the washers which interrupts the potential loop for current flow around the washers (encirlcing the bolt)

Relative to what? In regards to relativity. The hinge does produce a relative function.
So you must reillistrate the perception here, because the hinge is relative to the magnetic force. And the flux is endeavour to the hinge. Wrong choice of words.
Kimble275 2 years ago
As the title says: "Permanent magnet generator with no relative motion BETWEEN MAGNET AND COIL"
I said what I meant.
electricpete1 2 years ago
how is the cooper wound
samking12 2 years ago

Any current that flows in the iron prevents some current in the copper coil.
knowledgemonger 2 years ago
Somehow the youtube video compression throws away the flash if it doesn't last long enough... so the result that you see looks like there is no flash half the time.
electricpete1 2 years ago
I figured that there was some "aliasing" going on between the LED flashes and the video frame rate. The sometimes blink sometimes not effect doesn't make sense
BTW: It doesn't matter how you make more and less flux go down the center of the coil so there are lots of other mechanical methods you could use. I have seen it done using the teeth of a very large gear. It was part of a machine that needed the gear for its own purposes. It powered a display of how fast the gear was going.
