@Chradnev true to the fact NGE was started as a show and not based off of any game or manga. they did not come till later on and the manga point of view is different then the series or movies. NGE sort of represented the people the creater meet along the way and even the names were from some of them.i think the whole point of the anime was to connect with the people during that time. everyone related to some of these characters, on there lvl exactly or some what close to it.

"for seven years we've spent growing from the earth" so yeah. the title refers to Neon Genesis Evangelion, which from what i've heard is a barely passable anime but i guess they like it. i love this song it's so haunting, its a great way to end the album.
