  • Hi, i have a Mac trimmer that sat in a barn for a few years. I cleaned all the hay out of it, and adjust the carb to what the manual said it should be. But, when i got it the primer bulb was dried out and completely ruined. I took the hoses off each end and put a little piece of metal tube between them to put them together. I have not been able to get it to fire. It gets good spark and fresh gas. Do i need to get a primer bulb? it isn't part of the carb, just a line going in on each end.

  • 7:56 Awe yeah!

  • SHUT YOUR COMPRESSOR OFF!!!!!!!!!

  • Que tal Daniel, soy Gustavo de Argentina no te entiendo el idioma pero sos muy practico para explicar y me sirvio de muchos tus videos. Un abrazo y te felicito

  • Will this video help me replace a primer bulb for an echo trimmer?

  • That was a lot simpler than I thought! I have 2 get 2 primer bulbs, one for each weedeater.

  • Is theat a 4 cycle trimmer it looks like theres valves on it?

  • @th19940305 yes, it is a Stihl 4mix 4stroke engine, uses 4 strokes, but uses mixed 2stroke fuel for lubrication

  • hey man i got a question so i have a 2 cycle engine for a gas scooter, but i left gas in the engine for 2 yrs w/o running it will it still run if i changed put new gas and everything?

  • @garroman you should realy change the fuel!

That is tooo old even if does start it wont work as good as before.

  • I know it's a stupid question but where do you buy a Primer Bulb?? I looked on the homedepot page and they don't have it

  • at eny local lawnmower shop...

  • i have a 1950 poulan chainsaw that doesn't have a primer bulb, what should i do

  • @L0GEM0N if it is does not have a primer bulb where it is supposed to i would buy on for it and install it or if it flat does not have on put your mouth over the gas tank tip and blow on it to prime it.

  • From a computer geek : Thanks man, now I know that things called a primer bulb - so now I know what to ask for when I go to buy a replacement! Cheers!

  • first pull thats what happens when you maintain your equipment.

  • i like the fuel lines of stihl......

  • @brnemer They last a heck of a lot longer than regular ones

  • check to see if your carbs dirty or not and if it is clean it and see what happens and also are you doing any adnormal movement of it? because if you are since more than likely its gravity feed its not getting enough gas

  • haha love the wear safety glasses thing good you said that cause ive had wd40 in my eyes tons of times and it SUCKS

  • i have homelite edger, when you inject a gas, and pull the string as instructed .. this will works for a while then it dies automatically ... its like i have a clog on a gas line... do i need to use gas injector....or what is the problem with this machine

  • Cycle Fuel Only?

  • Well, I would think you could apply the same principles in this video for non cycle fuel engines as well. Why, do you have an engine that needs a new bulb?

  • No....I meant why did it say "cycle fuel only" on the engine cover? I don't need a new bulb. And one more question while I'm thinking about it. On my Stihl backpack blower its a BR420 Magnum, why don't they have a primer bulb on it. The new ones have bulbs. I think it ,makes staring easier with a bulb. And how do you adjust the choke on a Stihl backpack blower?

    Thanks Again

  • Oh, okay. I see. That sticker that said "cycle fuel only" is supposed to say "2 cycle fuel only". I added that sticker after my brother almost added regular gas to the tank instead of 2 cycle fuel.

As for why your blower doesn't have a primer bulb, hmm, strange. I honestly have never seen a 2 cycle engine without a primer bulb. Yes, it does make starting easier. As for how you adjust the choke on that engine, I'll have to do some research on that. Give me a little time and I'll get back to you!

  • bc its prob gravity fead

  • Hey do i have to run my craftsman weed wacker with a fuel filter

  • Well, it should have a fuel filter on the end of the fuel line in the fuel tank. However, I have seen engines without any fuel filters as well. If your weed whacker didn't come with a filter, it's probably not necessary. But if it did, you might want to put a fuel filter on. Any other questions just let me know!

  • Oh ok thanks! umm do you have to have a return line in the carb?

  • Yes, most 2 cycle engines have a return line from the carburetor back to the fuel tank.

  • Will it run with out it?

  • Yes, it will run without a fuel filter, but make sure you use clean fuel, otherwise you can damage the cylinder walls and the piston rings.

  • I mean will it run without a return line?

  • it wont run bc it pushes air into the tank and there by pushes the gas in to the motor so u cant prime

  • Sorry, my bad. I thought you were talking about the fuel filter, I realized that you were talking about the return line. Yes, it will run without a return line, but it will leak fuel all over the engine. The return line directs this fuel back to the tank.

  • @DanielJaegerFilms hey dan, can you please do a demonstration on how to clean a 2 stroke carb. i forgot cuz i havent used 2 strokes in 3 years because of my job and now my stihl wont start.

  • I'm glad to see you using WD-40. I use it a lot to clean my stihl chainsaws.

  • I works great! I'd say it's the second best thing besides engine degreaser.

  • great video very descriptive

  • Thanks!

  • Good video. Maybe you already know this but that "star" tool is called TORX (pronounced Tore-Ex)

  • I didn't know that. Thanks for the info!

  • yes and what i hate the most is that USA and europe have different size of tools and when i service the brigs&stratton engnies i don't have the proper tools becouse brigs is made in USA....it's realy hard to get american tools here in europe.

  • Yeah, I know what you mean. Just the other day I was working on my Mantis tiller, and they had the most unusual screws on that thing, and none of my driver tips would fit it. It's like, "why can't they use standard flathead or phillips? and if the screw gets to tight for that, use a bolt instead!"

  • aw right now she fires up like a real Stihl

  • @lovemyrv yea!!!!!!!

  • hey man nice video....next time take off air filter cover it's alot easier...oh and you should replace the spring in the spark plug...5stars.

  • The spring is the part that goes around the top of the spark plug, right?

  • yes

  • Cool! Thanks!
