I see where the nostalgia critic was coming from in his opinions of the respective Nicholson vs Ledger interpretations of the joker. Nicholsons Joker is more creepy than scary...however he does have certain scenes but they are early on before you fully see Jack in his new alter ego. When he is at the plastic surgeons the manic echoing laugh he does as the scene ends has stayed with me since as quite a scary scene. I would still rate this Batman higher than dark night because it is so epic!
i love tim burton. and michael keaton, and the burton batman movies. they hit it it right on the head with the style, darkness, and cool suave batman had (Keaton)
I find it ironic how in 89 they said keaton was a horible choice for batman , but Jack Nicholson was the perfect choice for Joker. in 2011 looking back everyone likes Keatons Batman and many complain about Jack Nicholson's joker not being good enough.
@TheHappynot haha your right man. i relly honestly didnt think jack nicholson was that good.... i dont get why everyone went nuts for him as joker. hes acted like himself, not funny enough not goofy and not laughing enough, liek the joker should, he didnt have alot of the joker qualities to me.
Could use a little more Two-Face? Yea me as well. Check out this interesting Two-Face fan film on my page. Do you believe in Harvey Dent?! You will after you see this.
I've read all types of comics for decades & IMO you can never properly adapt or go straight from the books & have it be a good movie. People always seem to think that would solve everything if these films were done as a more literal translation. I think it takes a director with scope to capture the characters as THEY see them in THERE minds & tell the story from that point. This is why Burton's Batman(s) will stand the test of time better. Whimsically dark, brooding, gothic film noir.&..PRINCE
Bob kane even said batman could be you me tom dick or harry, it doesnt matter who batman is, that why tim didnt care about what people said when he chose michael keaton as batman. well all i have to say is great chose on tims part and thank god for the casting.
I just watched this movie last night and God, was Michael Keaton good in the role. IMO, no one beats him. That guy WAS Bruce Wayne/Batman, and he understood that those were two different characters.
@zappafan136 Keaton was no different as Batman or Wayne. He was brooding and quiet as both..doesnt look like understood it to me. He didnt even work out for the role either.
I have this doc on vhs someplace from when it first appeared. I must have watched it 10 or more times leading up to seeing the film a couple of weeks later.
A great documentary of Batman, I wonder what Bob Kane would of thought of Batman Begins or The Dark Knight? He would probly of liked it better then Batman Forever and definately Batman and Robin.
We are doing a stop motion animation film called Tim. The movie is a stop motion animation film that is dedicated to Tim Burton and has Sir Christopher Lee as the narrator. Search the directors name Brian Joseph Ochab to find the video.
Batman was created by Bob Kane AND Bill Finger. Finger made him the dark detective, while Kane handled Batman's design, although Finger did make suggestions as to the character's iconic cowl- Kane initially had him in a domino mask.
Finger signed away his claims to the character in return for exclusive writing rights in the comics.
Don't get me wrong- Bob Kane deserves his credit, but Bill Finger deserves the credit for pushing the detective side of Batman.
Bob Kane came up with the Batman Concept and the rough sketches, Bill Finger helped him perfect the idea. Part of the reason Finger went uncreditied for so long was that he wrote many of his Batman stories as a ghost writer.
At the end of his life, the deadliest gunfighter of the Old West is given a choice: Hell or redemption. He chooses redemption and God's Archangel transports him to modern day Los Angeles to serve bloody, frontier justice on the worst dregs of society.
@gambitrocks I totally agree with you Bob Kane said himself in The dvd Special Edition Bob Kane loved unbelieveable ending and he cried because in the ending where Batman watching the Bat signal.
I was born in 1988 way before this came out in the summer of 1989 when everybody was rooting for the movie, and this was a good 20/20 special, and this movie was very signature, classic, underrated, and very brilliant, 5 stars for this Tim Burton masterpiece, and part 2 of the interview is worth watching.

I have never seen this yet know alot of what is said. Bob Kane was not happy with the direction the movie was going. While I respect Batmans creator the concept needed to be updated a bit. I just wish Vicki was not such a wuss! Kims screams bugged me. And Michael was not as built as I would have liked. Yet the comic sweet and VERY dark Michael Keaton made up for that tenfold! He will be Batman and when he left so did the magic. As Michael said Lose the sidekick and lose the nipples!

I think what Gordon said at the end of The Dark Knight perfectly defined who Batman is:
"He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight."

Batman Serials: Terrible, they're even worse then Batman and Robin
Batman 66: A straight up spoof/paradoy, and is possibly the funniest spoof of Batman you'll find.
Batman 89. Batman Returns, Batman The Animated Series, Batman Arkham Asylum Batman Begins and Dark Knight: The Definitive Portrayals of Batman
Batman Forever and Batman and Robin: THEY DON'T EXIST

i think bob kane wasn't a big fan of the new comics like the dark knight returns and the killing joke. maybe its because it was too dark. idk

Although Bob Kane himself commented that in his opinion, Val Kilmer did the best job.
