i have a question is time capsule faster than a netgear rangemax router because i do need an external hardrive for backup and time machine plus i definitely would like a faster router

how fast is the backing up

while backing up will it interfere with my internet connection?

hi there!

So the initial backup can take a while, a lot of people leave it overnight. However, after that first backup, it's only updating what has changed so it is much quicker.

It can slow down your InterneT connection as it uses the network, but it's not too noticeable, and is fine if all you are doing is surfing the web at the time.

Dollaboy667 try clicking Time Machine and go to the preferences and setting time Machine up maybe that's the problem

Timagination.... listen Time Capsue is very good. Some people want it and there is nothing wrong with that. I also wanted to buy a time capsule but i didn't. You see basically what a time capsule is, it is an Air Port Express and a external Hard Drive. That is all you need. I have an AP Express and i works fine and my EHD works great. If you have 2 floors get and APE more than you need and AP Extreme. Now for the hard drive go to best buy and either buy a Westel digital my book 500gb or 1tb.

Young Man you will have the Ip problem only if you change your Modem not the router..

Thank you for warning us about the Verizon issue you had. I have Verizon and I was cautious of buying the Time Capsule for compatibility issues.

Ya, it was an issue at first, but Verizon was very good at sorting it out with me. It was more operator error than their fault hehe :-)

Man, I had this shit since the release date, and still don't know how to use it. All I want to do is drag my music and photos from my macbook into the time capsule wirelessly (yes, i have the latest OS with time machine), thats all i want to do. someone, explain please?

It show up in the sidebar in the Finder if you set it up correctly. It took me a little while to get it working. Hope it works out for you!

Yeah, but after that...Can I just click and drag my music & photos to it wirelessly, and will it save it for me? I had this collecting dust for months, its time to get serious and not waste my money

if you can drag a file to the location of the TC, it should be saving it. Of course, Apple would prefer you use it with their time capsule backup software, but if you only want to backup a few files, drag and drop is awesome.

Not a few files, my entire music and photo library, which is pretty large.

I plugged it in , and there is just an orange light blinking from since I first started having this convo with you, no green light. Jeez im tired of apple.

Why setup the other router? Time Capsule is backwards compatible with 802.11g\a\b, so it will work with your iPhone and stuff.

The only reason I was going to set it up was because when you attach a g device to an n network, it lowers the network to g speed. however, I tried setting the other router up and it didn't seem to work, so I decided not to bother. Besides, I can't really notice and difference in speed as my computer is right next to the router . Thanks for the comment!

But you can broadcast multiple Wi-Fi signals though. Like g\n simultaneously. I have no idea if this applies to Time Capsule, but it does to my D-Link router. I can do all Wi-Fi radio signals from it, though I only have it setup to do 802.11g because I don't have any 11n devices.

But all is good. :)
