Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian are all North Germanic languages. Finnish isn't even an Indo-European language; it's Uralic. It's probably absorbed a few Swedish words into the language, since a sizable minority of people in Finland speak Swedish as their first language and it's even an official language there alongside Finnish (it was a part of Sweden before Russia). But even so, it's still very different. and yeah, it's pretty wacky.
Anyway, if you happen to see this, was it nice there?
@Gunderson002 Oh yeah, it was very nice there. I actually knew all of that about the language already, but thanks. *:-) My grandfather (morfar), was born and raised in Stockholm.
Gosh, where do I even start? It sounds like nothing I can describe. Swedish, my wife things sounds like the tweeting of a bird. I sometimes describe Finnish as being like tikkapikkapullaatuupakuppa... and that's just one word!!! Hah!
Cool! I enjoyed Finland, though I wasn't there long. Everyone in my maternal grandmother's family was from Finland. Their family name was "Petaja", or roughly "Pine" in English. I hope to go back there again sometime.
