You absolutely have to have an AMEX Chargecard and spend 250,000 on it. You cant apply for it or call in to the hotline and tell them how much money you make or fax them your income reports, there is absolutely no way to get the Centurion without being invited. Period.
@centurionreplica Not true, you definitely can call and request the card. Of course you would need to spending a lot on the Platinum card first, but you can call and ask for it.
As of September 2009 its invitation only. For most of 2008 and 2009 you could request the card if your spending level was above 250k a year but now it is closed again to invite only. Ive already called AmEx several times and they have confirmed that the card is invite only.
@centurionreplica The reason you probably got the answer that it is invite only is because you don't yet have a platinum with Amex. If you have no history with an Amex Platinum, then it is invite only. I've had a platinum for over 3 years now and I spend quite a bit between business and personal spending. I actually called a few months back and was told I can request one because of my history/spending habbits.

just a little more info, the new Centurion card is anodized titanium now. and you dont have to have AMEX first, just have to have records (receipts or statements from another card)
You do NOT have to spend $250,000 on Amex to receive a Centurion card, all you must do is prove your ability to spend such an amount ie. establish with them your annual income is over $150,000.
My husband received an invite for the black card last night. We are middle aged couple, nothing fancy, frugal to put it politely, have two kids and do not carry much debt. Laughed so hard at the 495 fee and "exclusivity" approach my kids heard me while playing outside almost 1/8 mile away. Sadly, this type of consumerism and hype is not dead.

so i have an amex black card and have a platinum visa because as u said visa is accepted everywhere. do you have a amex black and if you did get the visa black did you get ur 500 fee waived? i dont want to pay 500 when i already have the platinum. you feel me? just to make the colors match. lol. please reply.

I was offered a VISA Black Card. $500 a year for bullshit. I make somewhere between $30,000 - $90,000.

you have to spend 250k over a 12 month rolling period. It's on their website as a requirement for Amex's centurion.
The Black Card does not have that requirement, only income.

If don't travel, I couldn't really see it being worth it. Yes they do "SELL" on the concept. Its their job.
