Simply backup the i845.gfx, now backup geforce3.gfx and finally rename geforce3.gfx to i845.gfx and you're done :) AoM plays with all resolutions and finest graphics. Enjoy! The *.gfx files are in the gfxconfig (and gfxconfig2 for The Titans) subfolder.
(Oh and delete or cut the old i845.gfx and make sure the new one isnt something like (2) ! )
This is the solution to this problem I did to my AoM and it is ok now :)
I have the acer aspire 1410 core 2 solo. The original specs had 3 GB of RAM with vista. I installed 4GB of RAM and got the free upgrade to windows 7 (back on oct 2009). I was able to run Star trek online demo.
not really mentioned in the vid but, notice that when he moved units to the edge of the black area, things just started appearing and the black area looks like it was from AOE or Warcraft 1/2
On my other comp, the Fog of War EXISTS and the black area slowly moves away and the items under the black area then appear, not just appear outside of the black area like that...
this issue occurs on my comp as well and i really want a solution to that.... screw the black bars i want a fixed black area
oh and btw, My comp is a Dell Inspiron 15 with an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 4 GB ram, using Windows 7 x64 RC (used Linux more on this comp than anything else really...)
Some sort of intel intergrated graphics i guess.....
got it back in May09 but the other laptop i mentioned was from Jan07 and plays the game perfectly fine (has ATI graphics though i believe so meh :/) on Win XP...
I assume its a Graphics card issue?........ which means im essentially screwed with playing AOM.... else?......
@My other posts -- I found the solution.... Apparently you just need to backup the i845.gfx file and replace that file with a copy of the geforce3.gfx file and it works perfectly fine...
Plus if you use the windowed option it seems to stretch it out big enough (that or the resolution is too big and is therefore why it is what it is.... point is the black area problem is fixed)
@stargater94 I notice this problem too, which is why I'm here... On my cheap $300 GMA500 netbook, AOM works flawlessly yet on my more powerful laptop with GMA4500 HD, I get the issue which you noticed here.
maan i just have the same problem dude and i fixed it maaan it was soo insane, i downgraded my intel 965 express chipset drivers then everything worked fine dude
is this laptop any good for playing newer games. ive recently bought this laptop, although i wont be able to use it till christmas, i wouldnt mind knowing that if i bought a game it would run.
You should try installing Age of Empires III on Acer 1410. Some guys did it Asus Eee PC 701 and 900(yes, true, but with everything low of course), so it should run nicely ina Acer 1410. Thanks
NVIDIA ION isn't going to help with Flash video. That's a CPU problem, not a graphics processor issue. Flash doesn't use GPU acceleration yet. Right now, pretty much all netbooks and low power laptops have problems with high quality Flash video. If anything, the Acer Aspire 1410 will probably be a little better than the Samsung N510 when it comes to Flash, although the N510 may be better at games and Blu-Ray playback.
@BradLinder , with the latest flash it supports use of hardware hd decoder hardware..... that does help with acceleration some....(using sony vaio p with gma500)
I just bought the 1410 last week and I'm quite disappointed with it. I'm running the Vista that came with it and I find it very slow expecially when viewing youtube videos. (The image lags) Would you recommend switching to XP or Win7 as you did. OR should I wait for the Samsung N510 which will have the Nvidia Ion graphics card?

umm, yeah, but the thing about an rts is that the lag accumulates as more pieces come into play, so this demo says little

I don't mind if it can't play all those fancy new games, if it can early 00's and Doom, I'm a happy camper.
