@passerby500 there's actually tons and tons of boots out there. search through sweet ady (.net) and you should find some links. but ya, this is just a really really low quality rip from the album... same exact version, no new 'mix,' as from a basement.

@awaggenspack but it does sound changed after the fact it's not olny the back vocals up it is that whole range so someone prolly did some mid side on this or just cranked the eq's on on the backing vocal range.

The backing vocals are a lot closer to the surface in this mix, including the whispering and talking. What sounds like a flanger on the lead vocal is more pronounced. There's some kind of additional, very fast, very brief delay effect in the percussion that's different but I can't quite put my finger on it. I really think this mix more effectively captures the dream-like chaos of the song more than the final master they used for Basement.

Jennifer saying "because I love you" is still in this version. so it had to be mixed somewhat after he died.

this was put in the song during its recording, it was not put in as some sort of rememberance for elliott whatsoever

From what I've read in interviews and other people she used to go to his shows and say "because I love you" after he'd say that line, so I think it was put in there because it was seen as almost a lyric at that point. Just my opinion, but his girlfriend saying that had been around his whole last tour I think.

I am a musician and have been for about 7 years. My passion has always been writing music, which i was really bad at, until I heard Elliott.

I owe so much too him and like most of us here...wish I could thank him.....

As for this song??? Another example of how Elliott had the unbelievable power of giving shivers up your spine anytime you stop to listen to the music...or his lyrics.

lovely version here, thanks alot for posting. Jennifer Chiba said in an interview shortly after his death that King's Crossing was the very last song Elliott put vocals on, the day before he died. obviously I don't know if that's true, but have to assume it is. somehow adds to this already moving masterpiece.

hi clique, in the interview, Chiba was referring specifically to adding vocals, so you may very well be correct. maybe Elliott went in to do some overdubs of instruments, etc...either way, it says so much about his music that people like you and I even have conversations like this, about things that might seem irrelevant to some...but not to us. cheers, and great videos! thanks.

Personally, I think they should just publish his entire archive of work (in volumes of course, because there has to be TONS of it,) and let the proceeds all go to Inside Out or something along those lines. I think they feel that everything that anyone pays for has to be super slickly produced, but it's just not true. In fact, part of the appeal is that it's NOT pristine. I think that's what he was going for, in fact. Who knows, though.

that's weird. i've always read he had a lot of respect for bass players and i think that the bass guitar was the first thing he picked up himself. i really enjoy this mix because it's less clean than the official. a little noisier, which is what he wanted with that last album, right? i enjoy that a lot.

all of this stuff is unfinished though, so the whole no bass thing could be an issue of not getting things done in time compared to any sort of actual musical direction, who knows though

I think it has been altered because in the original recording when he says "..a reason not do it, so do it" But in this version there is still the womens voice saying " Because I love you" Before So do it, because that's what his girlfriend would yell durin gthe song when he played shows. The voice was added after he died on the wished of his girlfriend and mother
