  • No one can top that back-to-back tumbling pass.

  • This routine did not deserve a 10... that first pass was clearly short.

  • You forget she was competing with this routine. It was such a performance. Her smile ALWAYS seemed so genuine and never choreographed or forced.

  • so perfect!!!

  • She just holds the audience in the palm of her hand. Such charisma, performance and artistry, plus you really get the sense that she loves what she's doing.

    And of course, perfect execution..

  • anna dementyeva and anastasia grishina the new omelianchik

  • This when they actually cared about producing "artistic" gymnastics but sorry to say we Americans hijacked the sport and turned it into what it is today....CRAP! Go USA!

  • This happened before I was born and it still brings tears to me eyes to see her reaction to her score.

Of all the clips of gymnastics I have I think I have most of Oksana. Along with Severino she is my favorite gymnast of all time.

  • @AngelicPhantom Just knowing how the soviet system was...I was so happy for her too..thats a though system and they have been working so hard for their entire lives..its so amazing.

  • anybody know the music?

  • This just makes me want to cry considering what floor routines are today.

  • beautiful

  • love the floor music!! she was getting it!!

  • they way she smiles, and enjoys what shes doing, well.

that alone makes her a better gymnast that lets say Rebecca Bross who (not that i have seen, dont abuse me if im wrong) has never smiled during a routine.

  • This was brilliant. I actually enjoyed watching this, as opposed to today's floor exercises where the entire point is to squirm your way into the corners where you can do flips from as many times as possible.

  • i will give someone 5 dollars to have pull off a floor routine to birds chirping... and no A-Sac's cricket one does not count.

  • Omelianchik the best

  • the backhandspring thing that she does and spins in the middle , whats that called?

  • @mrsrachelmorgan The second tumbling pass is a round-off, flic flac, double twisting somersault, punch front to round-off, flic flac, half twist to front walk out, round off 1 1/2 twisting to pike roll out. I think the exact move you're asking about is the double twisting somersault.

  • Between the five tumbling passes of today and the dance requirements, nobody could pull this off today. Back off the requirements. More is not necessarily better. I feel like I'm watching power tumbling when I see women's FX these days. Even worse: The new scoring system has me watching not nearly as much as in the past. They need to take the ideas of the current scoring system (they make sense) and put them in a 10-point context. Casual fans look for "the perfect 10" and aren't finding it.

  • Attn: Shawn, Nastia, Alicia fans - what you're watching here is called "artistic gymnastics." Yes, it's true, Oksana doesn't look like a male bodybuilder or a pole dancer in a Miami nightclub, but you gotta admit she pulled off this routine pretty well.

  • @beautifulsarah100 I think Shawn had the potiental but she is stubby, I loved her 2007 routine, 2008 was lacking, hated Alicia Sacramone's floor, liked Nastia's the most, though alittle prissy, she was taught ballet and dance from her mother and is showed, next to the other American gymnasts. Shawn clearly can dance because she won Dancing With The Stars... Of Course Oksana was tiny and barely looked 12 and competed at the same time as Nastia's father on the same team, when they had money.

  • @emmyjo720 But Oksana had life and spirit, something none of the three you mentioned will ever have. (Especially Sacramone.)

  • This is amazing...I prefer watching routines like these than now...it was fun to watch the gymnast is having fun and the crowd shows it. Its awesome

  • Wow. That was lovely and I adore how she smiles the entire way through.

  • That was superb! Such beauty and grace!

  • She is the only gymnast that could make that routine look like that!

  • I was the biggest fan back then!

  • Would love to see again coreagraphies like this one. Really artistic ones not just leaps and tumbling pases!!!

  • how old was she here? & i love the floor routine, but hate the music. i remember watching another example of this performance where the judges werent talking so much & you could really hear the obnoxious bird tweeting at the beginning of the routine. it wasnt as loud here, so that was good

  • @LMA629 she was only 15 there...

  • clearly she is an amazing gymnast with beautiful dance and original tumbling. However, I find the "little girl" choreography in parts of it to be too "cutesy". I also felt that she should have received a deduction for the pause after the final piked double back into a handspring.

  • The "cutesy little girl" bits were the best part! They work them hard enough to be depressed as mine workers, sure, but she is a young girl. To me this routine captures the spirit of gymnastics- as close as possible to flying like a bird. A routine with dancing like that would be a reward for all the hard work. And LMA629- since it's hard to sing for joy and tumble simultaneously, the music provided exactly what was missing.

  • She is the most adorable thing I've ever seen in the entire world!

  • Brillante...siempre he sido fan de Shushu...pero como pudo Barcelona 88privarnos de esta princesa de la gimnasia...cuanto lo lamento.

  • No fue Barcelona fue Soul 88, Barcelona fue 92.

  • Such a great job! Excellent!!!

  • Omelianchik combined grace, power and agility in her routine. You rarely see all three in gymnasts today. If you take away the amazing tumbling passes you would still be in awe of her execution - toes always pointed, shoulders always square, head always held high. Gymnasts now may have more powerful tumbling but have hunched shoulders and unpointed toes especially when they run to do their tumbling passes.

  • She had true originality too...She choerographed Alina Kozich's 2004 floor routine, which was very beautiful.

  • The commentators talked too much.

  • yes faeryquene they should shut the hell up. Great routine. Just awesome!

  • Indeed it is-this is legendary in the sport. And those commentators really almost ruin it-one is forced to tune them out.

  • Best floor routine ever. So many wonderful ones throughout the years, but this is a cut above all the others.

  • Shushunova said that when it came to floor routines, they were encouraged to play with the music, and the routine would develop from that..It shows it the joyfulness of the routines of both Omelianchek and Shushunova at Montreal..

  • Ever seen a smile so in any sporting that has won a competition!

To see this gymnast transmits a great joy.

  • she's always a playful little bird in my heart.

  • I like this routine - she seems like she's having fun.

And to PaigeChapman6, what do you find unnecessary and repulsive about this routine then? Come on, TELL US.

I'm no gymnast but I'd like to see you do that lol!!

  • Do you prefer Shawn Johnson's or Cheng Fei's? Clearly you have no appreciation for artistry, nor groundbreaking gymnastics. This is widely known as one of the best floor routines of all time for combining difficulty (at the time) with beautiful dance and charming style.

  • Seriously! How can a floor routine even be "unnecessary"? The comment you replied to is obviously unintelligent and uninformed. Omelianchik was one of the best floor-workers, along with Silivas, Mostepanova, and other beauties like Shushunova and Ilienko.

  • @nicksline Cheng Fei, Alina Kozich (cherographed by Oksana), Anna Pavlova, Catalina Ponor, Zhang Nan, Emilie LePennec in 2004, Ksenia Semenova, Anna Pavlova, Jiang Yuyan in 2008. Ana Pogras, Diana Cheralu, Aliya Mustifina, Rebecca Wing, Imogen Cairns, Daria Joura, Youna Defounet -since have had great floor routines. I am a Brit and I do not think Beth Tweddle belongs on the list with Oksana, Shushunova, Silivas, Bogi, Kochochova as world champions. I liked Shawn Johnson though in 07 not 08.

  • She began a new history in FX.

    Historical moment

  • YES !!! This routine marked the sport of gymnastics forever!

  • her tumbling pass starting at 0:54 was amazing!

  • incredible!

I will always be obsessed with this routine

  • me too! :D
