Just a note from Tim Smith: One reason it took Debbi and I so long to build this home is because we were both working full-time jobs as we worked on it. I agree that if we devoted a full 8 hour day, each day, we would have completed it sooner. It is simply, a money issue. –And a learning curve to conquer. Thanks to all for the great responses! Keep them coming.
I've been building AI domes for 8 years and have built over 40 of them.I love this video but if you watch this video and think that it takes this long you are misinformed. With 2 good helpers,we can put up a 48 foot dome shell in 2 weeks. These domes are awesome,Peace!
@atmosspheres321 are you talking of a concrete dome?..do you have a website?..I'd love to learn more about these..I'm a carpenter and love the idea of concrete and domes...
Seems as if the build could have been done more effectively and efficiently but using a wood framing, then dry walling, then foam injection for insulation for each triangular panel. I imagine, that using the method just described you could build faster, but also larger and get equal if not better heating and cooling characteristics. Of course, the roof line would need to be "shingled" per se, but then again, you'd be comparing "apples to oranges."
@jacksparrowsgirl102 Click on the link you can go to the AI dome home page they have listed the size and the prices. You have to cover shipping since their factory is in FL this can cost more in North West than the South East. Ron Paul 201.
What if you could build a Monolithic dome with 2,600 sq ft of living space, costs 10% of a the average home to build, and provides protection and efficiency from its 24in thick wall? Watch A HOME FIT FOR ROYALTY
I think you have gotten some misinformation. It will cost about the same, but due to energy savings will be cheaper in the long run and may have up to 4 inch walls not 24 inch ones. It would take a long time with shotcrete to get that thick of wall.
@elvieken I am about to build a 2 story, 2,600+ square foot dome home for the cost of $30,000. The walls are not shotcreted and are a 20-24 inches thick. Construction time is an estimated 5 months. Thank you for your reply, and be blessed.
@trihumanish I'm no expert, but I believe the dome will have the same strength, it's just sitting on top of a base. I'm really just speculating though, so don't hold me to it.
wow, Debbi I just found this video after seeing Jess sing, she was great. I love the job you did with your house. 10 years a long time you really did a great job.
This is an American Ingenuity dome.Their website is AIdomes.com.These domes are built out of styrofoam and concrete triangles.

The base of the walls are not made from triangles but from rectangles. Why is that? Oh the rest looks great by the way...
trihumanish 1 year ago
@trihumanish I believe it adds height to the dome.
LSFulgham 1 year ago
@LSFulgham yes but does that not take away from the strength of the structure?
