  • who the fuck dislikes something like this? i mean, honestly!

  • isn't it amazing why we humans fail as a civilization... in order to have a reason to invent cool things we have to have war.. cause thats where the money is... Its nice, but its typical

  • Look at Android phones and iPhones. At our current rate of advancement, we'll have tricorders in 20 years.

  • @trekgeek1 maybe even a starship:DD

  • the original star trek was the best

  • first off, no real trekkie would develop for the military as a trekkie has much higher ethical standards than the idiots in uniform who rush to do what evil men tell them to.

second, they don't actually demonstrate any actual scanning of anything. it might be possible to get some decent information with a spectrum of microwaves but it would probably need a bigger antenna head and some serious engineering and even then it won't be neat dots on a small screen

  • Next, I want a Robot to do my house work!

  • screw flying cars, shuttlecraft are much more stylish

  • lol Star Trek Next Generation "Troops"

  • @BondFreek, as a matters of fact it did, on Star Trek: Enterprise when archer is taken back in time six months by Daniels to when the Enterprise was comissioned, he looks out his window at what maybe New York (not sure which city), and there were flying cars. Not sure which ep, but it's the one where archer and daniels are stuck in the 31st century.

  • First the flip-style cell, now this.

  • There you go...science at work for the military, helping them kill people...

  • Just for the fun of it they should make it look exactly like a tricorder.

  • @DownstairsB ...considering it was uploaded years ago...

    mr smartie-pants

  • Sounds like terran empire captured a federation tech :(

  • @platoon1993

    it's a shame really

  • Weren't we supposed to have flying cars by now?....lol. I WANT MY FLYING CAR!!

  • @jgibson1970 They do BUT do you have a half-million?

  • @jgibson1970 In 2015. By then we should have flying cars, robots that walk our dogs, hoverboards, and about 13 more Jaws sequels. XD

  • @jgibson1970. Star Trek never predicted flying cars. But it still plausible, our tech evolution just took a different path.

  • @jgibson1970 And jetpacks, dammit!

  • @jgibson1970 YES! however there is a reason THEY have kept this tech away from the humans.... THEY are 50-100 years ahead of tech. iphones, ipads, itable.. they are old hand me down tech but they are using stuff like minority report movie. When the machines start to take over.. Then humans are in trouble.

  • @jgibson1970 I'm holding out for flying DeLoreans

  • @jgibson1970 then go buy one..they are availble

  • These people developing these amazing things grew up on Star Trek. The people who grew up on Star Wars are still trying to use the force.

  • @BondFreek

    Well put :)

  • @EyeOnTheTV,

    Thank you.

  • @BondFreek You're right!! :D

  • @BondFreek AMEN! It was us, the Star Trek fans, who developed the very first cell phone, inspired by Captain Kirk's communicator! EAT THAT YODA!

  • @BondFreek The very reason I am a Trekkie and not a Star Wars geek.

  • @BondFreek you smart-ass :)

  • @SAMMYJS991. (Not referring to you) Better than being a dumb ass, I always say.

  • @BondFreek true.

  • @BondFreek good one!

  • Not so easy if you have the insulation with aluminium foil,and/or wire lathe.

  • I think it's cool how so many Star Trek technologies that looked like science fiction are becoming real; tricorders, communicators, hyposprays, there's even a stun gun that police use that's more like a phaser!

Now, where's the warp drive, replicators, and holodecks?

  • Warp drive, replicators, and holodecks are actually slowly becoming reality as well... Even Cloaking devices!!! :O :O :o :O

  • Hollodeck's search up ATI eyefinity, there's an artical about that.

  • As wonderful as it sounds... were not ready for this kind of technology. Most of it would be for military application only and anything that would have civilian use would be misused. Just think holodeck addiction, replicating weapons, drug addicts thinking it's ok to use because they have a forever clean hypo, tricorders used to hunt people down and steal things... as painful as it is to say we are not ready.

  • @animeownage86 but just think hypo has been around a long time good luck stealing when we have force fields and intruder sensorsreplicated food gives food for all and unlimited building supplies! we will be ready.

  • Not to mention those medical healing devices would be used by practical jokers to go around and seal up peoples' butt-holes.

  • How about no war at all? That would save the most lives.

  • So everyone you don't know is you enemy and wants to take away your freedom? Wow, you live in a sad world. Thank the gods I live in a different one. But here's one thing you may wanna think about: What freedom are you talking about, when you have to protect it by locking yourself up in a golden cage?

  • To kirkindysolospock: I cant believe believe you got thumbs-downs for your no-war comment. We do live in a scary hate-stricken world, don't we?

  • ???

  • Keep soldiers safe, endanger civillians.

How would searching for heart rate and respiration discriminate between a kid hiding under the bed and a guy waiting in ambush? Both will have adrenaline flooding their systems, and both will get killed!

  • The point is that it helps the troops prepare for a possible ambush. It allows them to warn whoever is there that they are coming.

  • Sorry but I dont agree. I cant see any soldier letting the enemy know he was coming.

The only thing this device does is show you if the house has someone in it. Then it is up to the soldier (under stressful circumstances) to make the judgement. Bad guy, little kid hiding in the wardrobe - Which are you supposed to assume it is?

Might be good for Splinter Cell'esque shenannigans or for special forces but not Sgt Numnuts from Ohio.

  • Unfortunately that's something which will always happen, Soliders not following protocol (most likely due to pressure and the fear for their own lives).

It's no doubt going to be put into circulation because it will save soliders lives and that is the priority in this war.

  • I think that it would be better for the fire department. I think it would be good for a soilder as long as he didnt shoot frist and ask later.......

  • Yeah good idea, or maybe earthquake search and rescue!

  • That would be the best use of it!

  • The design team wants to be shot.

  • ...Wait, they called the characters from TNG "troops"?

Yes, because Starfleet was a military organistaion. lol, Hawaii.

  • I'm following all these developments...
