  • We had a good little Spectrum scam going back then. We used to nick the bargain basket games (with cassettes in the boxes duh?) from John Menzies, then take them back to Littlewoods which had a small games section staffed by the dumbest women since the 'Dumb Woman Competition 1968'. No receipt required, we'd take the shitty 99p nicked games back to customer services, say it was an unwanted present and receive a 10 quid (or 9.95) refund to spend on a 'real' game - nice!!!

  • Keep up the speccy reviews collie and comments

  • buagagagaga, lol

  • A bad game of the time, aside from the music and speech. The only thing worse than the Commodore 64 version (I own it, so kind of know) is the Spectrum version. Ghostbusters 2 was only slightly better really.

  • Always hated this game. You don't even get the musical bouncing ball that most of the other versions have. :(

  • I must have been a genius as a kid - went to the C64 as soon as it came out

  • F*ck me sideways. This game was total and utter shite. They never even programmed the music in tune! The speech was impressive (for a single channel beeper) but bloody hell the game was a utter dog shit.

Another lazy movie tie in that was thrown together for profit. I would say this was a real turkey on the Speccy - it was crap back then. I like your review.

  • The author of this game is one foul mouthed prick. My 6 yr old son now wants to know what a 'Twat' is!

It's so sad when an uneducated idiot has to sell views on youtube with unnecessary profanity. It's even sadder when he does not know the limitations of the specky!

  • @meowmmmmm Judging by your hypocritical comments, If your 6 year old wants to know what a twat is, he only has to look at his father. Bless him. As to knowing the limitations of the Speccy, I know only too well, having grown up with the machine. This game never pushed the boundaries of the Spectrum. The speech was great, the stick characters were not. The resulting game is a disappointment all round. Good day to you.

  • @collieuk You're like the Angry Videogame Nerd... only actually angry, and a dick, and not good at reviews, and probably mad because you're less famous.

  • @collieuk i m 6 what is a twat? LOL!

  • @meowmmmmm He knows what a 'fuckin' Triffid' is (3:50 in video), but not what a twat is? What are you teaching him?

  • @meowmmmmm

why is your 6 year old son watching videos on youtube?

  • By 1984 Commodore 64 games were beating the Spectrum in quantity and quality....So this was the first game I bought for my new Commodore 64, as I decided to move away from the Spectrum...

  • @HardWarUK Ha, really? well done mate.

  • what the hell are the account details about at the start

  • me and a friend have spent a few days trying to get this to work in our computing class since our teacher bought a couple zx spectrums

  • Speccy version of this game was poor. I had it on the Atari XE and it was really good. Played it for hours.

  • LOL THE BLOKE TALKING MAKES THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!

  • 5 out of 10? Shut the fuck up it was worth at least 7! Even by mid 80s standards.

  • I loved this game! And it was probably THE first game on the Spectrum I completed without using Pokes.

  • This game sucked on all platforms, it really is an insult to the movie.

  • Remember these games were not cheap. One of the first games I bought was in 1984, pitstop II. It was £10 ! THAT was ALOT of money, maybe equivalent to £40 now?

  • @kasabian8888 Yea people moan about £40 games now, but a tenner was a tidy sum back then. I have some ZX81 games from around '82-83 that are priced £5.95 or so.... that's a lot for a game taking up 1K of memory that probably took a few hours to write.

  • @collieuk LOL maybe a few days to write ;)

Yea, I also had a game called firequest costing a tenner, it had six sheets and I could complete it within 30 mins... how many games can you complete now in 30 mins?

I did LOVE these games though :-D

  • A great Collie review back when he used to give a fuck and give voice overs and add music lol!

  • Modern developers would probably release the karaoke bit at the beginning as a budget game in itself. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they already did.

  • i think that v-sync is off...

  • I was 12 when I got this for Christmas....Loving all these videos.....Fucking Speccy Ruled the waves

  • I remember being awestruck by the fantastic speech in this game! ;) "He slimed me!" Classic!

  • rubbish graphics? what do you expect dammit! It's the spectrum ffs!

  • Seeing as I grew up with the Spectrum and ZX81 and have played hundreds of games for those systems, I think I am safely in a position to compare the graphics of one Speccy game to another. I'm not saying the graphics are rubbish compared to say the NES, but the minimalistic colour usage and crappy stick figures is poor. For 1984 the graphics were passable but the Speccy was capable of much more. So stick that up your Proton Pack and smoke it!

  • i used to love this game on my specky 48k (lol)

    when i was a kid.

i still remember a cheat to get unlimited money.

well im not sure how i put it in. i think its a poke

    ie. poke 44560001

i think u put it in before loading the game run""

    the number is defo right!

  • I bloody loved getting this for christmas lol. sigh....

  • LOL....I got it for christmas

  • surprisingly graphics like this were 'awesome' in mid 80s its what i grew up with.

I dreamed of games like today back then, 3d worlds etc and its come true :D

  • Good review mate. I so wanted to like this game back in the 80's but this was one game which was far better on my mates C64. Still played it a ton but dire graphics, very dull game.

  • This game was awesome although i played the C64 Version cause of the superb music :)

  • Classic game

  • Good movie totally crap game lol they need to remake this game with todays technology might look good on playstation 3 or Xbox for new generation

  • Guess what, some guys actually did it! There's a re make AND IT'S MUCH BETTER! Just google Ghostbusters Retro Remake!

IMO, they should release it on XBLA and PSN!

  • I remember spending hours playing that shite, unbelieveable to look back now. I'm off round my mates to play PES2009 on the PS3, quite similar in terms of graphics and gameplay!

  • The ghost looks a bit fat!

  • The CBM 64 version kicked its ass!!

  • Even the crappy NES version was better than this one!!

  • Kind of obvious, consoles were designed for games! This version should only be compared with the Commodore and Amstrad versions!

  • That's a very accurate impression of the Ecto-1 siren!

  • well ... a decent game ...

  • Omg, the ghostbusters logo look like shit! I could draw it better when i was 6, lol

  • This was indeed a crap game. Crap then, uber crap now. There were plenty of good games on the Speccy though!

  • i remember buying the empire fights back (not the empire strikes back) for the speccy cos i was a big star wars fan... my mate told me not to do it cos it was awful.... and boy he was right, i mean, at the best of times the speccy games were bad but this game was dreadful... it was so bad me and my mate poured my dad's aftershave on the tape and set light to it

  • Comment removed

  • i remember finishing this game on the 48k speccy

and you got a code so you could have more money when you played again, i seem to remember

  • this game was bad in so many ways - like having to wait around forever for hauntings to occur near the start, and yet i couldn't stop playing it.

  • damn this version makes the nes version look like a next gen game

  • I have fond memories of that game...

  • The ghost busting 'montage' part of the video was pure comedy!

  • wow this looks like the shittest game i've ever seen

  • I had this when I was 12. Fuck me ragged it was shit.

  • That "GHOSTBUSTERS" cry at the start was fucking mental!

  • Hah, very good!

  • 8-foot marshmallow man XD

  • HE SLIMED ME!

  • I am glad i had the sense to rent the tape, copy it on to a blank tape and swap the reals from the original to the blank and return the tape. hee hee Good old hacking skills

  • Now that is underhand and sneaky! Lol you should have replaced the copy reel with something rubbish like Advanced Lawn Mower simulator for the next unlucky punter to buy (we all know half the shops never sent back 'faulty' tapes).

  • Ha ha Oh the gold old days. Love the video by the way. It made me chuckle and brought back some good memorys. Manic Miner was my favourite. I remember the cheat was a series of numbers about 6 digits but im 35 now and cannot remember it. Jet set willy 1 & 2 was also a winner with me. The cheat on jet set willy 2 had something to do with the boat and it took you to a cheat island if i remember correctly.

  • poke 35136,0 - and thats from memory! - the manic miner poke is somehow seared on my memory.

  • id forgotten that marshmallow man is so pathetically small on this version... even the rubbish nes version actually had him sort of scaling the wall.

i would give this 1/10 and thats just for the speech and ghostbusters logo :)

  • This video is hilarious!

  • We got our 1st Speccy, the 128k (upgrading from an atari 800xl) for christmas 1989. We got this game in with the bundle. I think i played it once and vowed never to play it again. I then proceeded to insult my mum for most of christmas for buying us such a shit game. Good to see it again though.

  • Awesome game.

  • I forked out all my paper-round money for this back in the day and was gutted when I took it home. It was shite! Good vid, enjoyed your commentary :)

  • One of my favourite games on the Speccy!

  • really?? why??

  • I absolutely LOVED the movie(still do) as a 6 yr old kid and just loved the game, basically cause it was Ghostbusters I guess.

  • The C64 version Marshmellow man was HARD!

  • I like you're self-depricating review style. reminds me of YS megazine... "The spectrum. It's crap!" good work fella.

  • Yea that's the kind of angle I go for. Light hearted, non-serious, just ramble a bit about the game and then about anything else for the rest of the video.

  • Good review, but less of the foul language I'd say.

  • Sorry Mum! :P

  • But seriously there's no need for the language, it just ruins your vid. Otherwise it's a good vid tho.

  • what amazes me is that they spent all that time, effort and memory for that snatchet of digitized sound, but the could not be bothered to make a good version of the theme tune!

  • Oh the memories.....

  • ive got a zx spectrum took ages for a game to load sometimes up to half an hour then it wud fucking crash i must have chuked my zx down the stairs a hundred times and the fucker still works today oh and spat on it out of frustration

  • funny heh. brit accent is funnier! :D

  • love it

  • This game was hilarius especially the '0' bug when selecting a car. Instead of chosing 1-4 from the cars choose 0 and you get a 'blank' car costing nothing and a full $10,000 dollars to pimp it up with all the trimmings.

  • Hi, can you tell me the name of the song in the very beginning? Sounds familiar but I can't remember..

  • thats called the ghostbusters theme tune!

  • I mean the first 10 seconds of the video..

  • hehhe my bag man! aint got a clue sorry brother!

  • no prob ;D

  • "96 Tears" by The Stranglers. I used it for most of my early reviews, like this one.

  • Cool, thanks!

  • this game was actually fun in its day

  • Well I found it really fun for a week when I first had the game. Then stopped playing and never wanted to play it again once the limited appeal wore off.

  • It was a true classic on the C64. But, it isn't TERRIBLY worse. It is better than the Atari 2600 version. In the end it may well still be the best movie license game ever, not that that is saying much.

  • Very funny commentary. I was 13 when that game came out; it was an absolute shite worthless game back then, let alone now!

  • lol As soon as you capture the ghost, you hear the shittest "GHOSTBUSTERS" in the world XD

  • LMAO @ Barry Boys comment!

  • fick dich scheiss tommy und sag deiner schwester sie war echt die verdorbenste sau die ich hatte !!!

  • "fick you shit tommy and say to your sister it was genuinly the most spoiled sow which I had!!!"

Good old Babelfish. I love these kind of comments. You sir are a genius. I salute you. Give my regards to your mother whom's chin-beard I genuinely enjoy stroking whenever I get the chance.

  • I remember briefly playing this many moons ago.

A dying breed is the spectrum range.

  • There is a fan made remake of this game. It's pretty fun. I suggest you to goggle it.

  • Excellent. Comprehensive and humorous review that, actually! Why dont you do that ghosthunters that u mentioned to compare for a laugh!?

  • I would, only I can't find a copy of it that works. I sent my spies out to find it, only the results they've sent back have been discouraging. And I still haven't found my tape leads to use the copy of the tape I do own already.

  • i first played this on the great C64 version, so rushed home and played it on my amstrad and nearly cried, but at least it was better then the speccy one

  • You can barely write, I think we're about even.

  • I remember really liking this game as a kid - I guess I must have been more easily impressed back then.

I can still sort of admire it for trying to include some varied gameplay, and it was cool to be able to play through it more than once (it would have been a total rip off otherwise). The digitized speech must have been pretty state of the art for the time too.

But I suppose with all that ambition, you're pretty screwed when you've only got 48k to work with.

    Loved the review though!

  • I agree, when I was a kid I liked this game too. It was one of the few games I could complete on the ole ZX. This, Chuckie Egg 2, Bruce Lee and Monty Mole Great Escape was about all I could clear. Oh and on Alien I could kill the bastard without blowing up the Nostromo. And Skooldaze. Both these only when I was much older and playing them on an emulator though.

  • dreadful

  • On the C64 version it was near to impossible to stop mr stay puft!lol!. As soon as the screen changed back to the city it was "BOOM!" stomp-stomp-stomp!.

  • hahahaha!!, CLASSIC!!, even the funny commentary bit about the Big Issue etc.

  • Oh my how l forgot about the dreadful sounds of this game coming from the little speaker in my ZX. And l love your little montage. Even Rocky has a montage ;)

  • I fucking loved this when i was a kid...i say kid i was about 11. Its shameful.

  • I remember playing this for about a month solid when I was a kid. I have no idea why......

  • "Eat my triffid"!! LOL :)
