  • JOAN BAEZ

  • Such a relaxed singer. He never sang a bad song.Truly the greatest ever, although Tom Jone's version of this song, was in my humble opinion the best

  • this song is so well suited for him, it's a shame he never recorded it on an album

  • even if you cant sing..the lyrics sell the song...nice to hear marty's version

  • I am not from USA and i have not heard this guy for long..having said that i believe his version is the best..to me he has one of the best voice in country : My favorites are

: George Strait, Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins then comes he likes of Garth Brooks,Kenny, tim Mcgraw,Brad Paisley etc

  • Another amazing song - the best version of all time. I love it! Thanks again.

  • ein sehr schönes lied, auch in dieser version.......

  • Marty was Chuck Norris back in the good ol days

  • for me its tom jones and another eauro bobby solo check it out on you tube.

  • we played this at my great grams funeral last may :'( we miss u gram so so much rip we all love u........

  • The king of music Elvis #1..... Long live the king..

  • The greatest country singer of all-time.

  • Old Marty didn't have the greatest of voices but his voice was unique!

  • Imo, the perfect version of this song was by Merle Haggard. Jones' not a patch on it. But each to his own.

  • Disagree with zensho1.........best version is Elvis and Joe Tex.....

  • This is a better version than Tom Jones

  • similar as with hit Unchained Melody, where cover version from Righteous brothers was imposed as a "original", by G.G.G. of Home this is Tom Jones version ..one different between original and Jones version is in recite style ; by in this interesting Robbins version singing is continued..

  • I have not found my favorite RAY PRICE singing this on utube.

  • Love this.Sven-Olof From Sweden

  • Mystifyingly, Marty never actually recorded the song, but did sing it in the movie and he also sang it on his 'Spotlight '' TV show.

  • @tarquin45 I remmber barly that TV show.

  • An absolutely beautiful version! Thanks for posting.

  • another fantastic version of this standard great is done by none other than Merle Haggard. Give it a listen

  • amen friend. i think merle might own the song. love the talking part. true reflection and lamentation.

  • Marty you are just great, your voice will be missed, there is no song that you can't sing.

  • I think I'm right in saying that Johnny Darrell did the first cut on the song followed by Porter Wagoner's great version, thence on to Jerry Lee. Tom Jones may have had the worldwide hit, but he never wrote his name up on Tootsie's wall like another Welshman I know did!

  • @tarquin45 Amen!! you are right,a Curly Putman wrote this beautiful song,,then Portor wagner,,was the singer who made it famous...Of course there were many wonderful singers who sung it as well....Thank God for the song, and posting it....

  • I heard many versions of this song but for me the great Marty did it best, because his voice has somuch feeling and it realy tuch you in your heart.Thank you Tarquin you did again a realy great job,you are great person.

  • Actually, Porter Waggoner did this one best. Tom Jones did it well, as did Elvis and of course Marty's version is good too.

Most of all remember, this is a great song whoever is singing, kudos to Curly Putman who wrote it.

  • My comment is realy personal, and you are right Tom Jones did it realy good and it is the version I heard it most and I think we all got our favorite singer on each song they sang. But the song is great nomatter if Marty,Tom,Porter or Hank Locking sang it

  • EVERYONE LOVES THEIR OWN FAVORITE SINGER...THE FACT THAT THIS IS AND OLD FAVORITE OF EVERYONE...LOVE THIS SONG......... :)

  • Joan Baez doers the best version.

  • They are all very good! For me Tom Jones was the best, and the World knows the song, because of Tom Jones version...

  • nolaraee1929 Marty does a fine job,sad but true are the words of green grass of home.

    thanks.

  • tarquin45,

thank you so much for uploading the very best of Marty Robbins. I remember back in 1981 he was scheduled to play in my hometown of Brisbane Australia. I was only 9 then but I listened to his music on the radio and the old cassettes over and over. My mum promised to take me to see him when he came and I remember how disappointed I was when I heard that he had passed away and wasn't coming. I still listen sometimes and it really takes me back. Thank you once again.

    Mike
