@isaacburgos1 Install 2 virtual machines into VMware Workstation, set up the networking on both so that they are both on the same network, vmnet2 for example and then set up a DHCP on the server etc as usual.
@jp96815 Copied the contents of my laptops Windows Vista Home Premium restore DVD to my hard drive, removed PID.txt from the "Sources" directory and then re-created the DVD as a bootable ISO image for VMware. After that PID.txt file is removed it will allow you to install any version of Windows Vista and not just Home Premium in my case.
So the computer that is joined to a domain has two different logons? One for local and one for the domain? So joining the domain controller it's under different rules than if one just logged on locally?
@Zorack10 You are correct about the first part that the computer has 2 logons, domain and local however whether they are under different rules depends on what has been set up in group policy under computer settings. Some administrators even decide to disallow local log on's to a computer once it is on a domain.
Thank you for this video it really did help. I do have a question for everyone including the video poster, if you can help that would be awesome. My question is, When working with Server, the only OS in the Vista series that will join the domain is Vista Business and Vista Ultimate, right? So this will not be an option on Vista Home editions whatsoever? please let me know, and thanks again!
Is there any way around having to put "Network\" in every time and even better can i have it auto log in to the domain i would like to set this up at home but it all has to be transparent so the family will ascept it and us it
you dont have to put in NETWORK\ all the time. Only when you need to login with the administrator account. But if you want the PC to autologin then use Tune-up utilities and this has the option to make your computer do that.
@mullinsJ08 or you can go to run and type in control userpasswords2 and uncheck "require a user to enter there passwords to use computer" press OK and insert the username and pass, click OK and the next time you boot the computer it will log on automatically.
on your windows vista business you have 512 mb RAM but great procceser and i have on my windows vista ultimate 1.25 GB but sometimes 2GB of RAM but crap procceser Intel Pentuim 4!!
This is because I was doing this whole tutorial in virtual machines. My actual laptop has 2GB RAM however I needed to leave 1GB RAM for XP because it was doing the actual recording for this tutorial.
hi im interested in computers please can you explain the process by when you logon to from vista pc to the windows server whats going on how does the pc get connected hope you can help and thanks for good tut :) .
That's where the REAL fun is! Specifically @ 6:50 you can set a GPO to have default domain on login - thereby alleviating confusion with not so saavy users.
when i try to connect to a domain it says that an avtive directory domain controller for the domain could not be contacted
