  • I never understood this, doesn;t the 1st amendment just prohibit Congress from making a law banning or promoting religion? It doesn't say that any form of religion should be banned from public places, it just says congress shall write no law. I am an atheist but I don't get what the fuck is so wrong with teachers or government officials expressing their faith. As long as they don't let congress write any laws who the fuck cares?

  • @Dustylane2009

Yes, let them all pray! I'm sure they'd all be allot happier. You are right this is America, a land of diversity. We can't all keep our mouths shut because it might offend some one. Instead we learn to tolerate the beliefs of others. I wish it upon no man to have to hide who he is, If hiding your beliefs now defines America, then America is dead. People from all over the world flock here for the freedom to be who they are, not to hide it.

    -Peace-

  • Let them try to arrest me for praying, they would get a bullet in the face for attempting to manhandle a follower of god.

  • @iwouldbonekerihilson How very Christian of you.

  • And yet muslims can pray anywhere they want. The founding fathers would never approve of this. God will bring down the hate on those who attack his people.

  • "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." This means that unless I share the religion of the people employed by the government who decide to lead the prayer, my First Amendment rights are being violated. What's so difficult to understand about this?

  • i thought there was freedom in america...

  • The time when Christians lost their ability to pray in public was around the time when politicians stopped saying that the country was based on Christian principles and started saying it was based on "Judeo-Christian principles".

Face it Americans, you gave up your culture, your borders, your economy, etc.

LOL...Americans used get mad if you called them "Americans"...they used to demand to be called "US Citizens".

  • I'm an Atheist, but this is still clearly a constitutional violation. I wish the ACLU would go back to defending civil liberties.

  • Justice prevails. UP YOURS ACLU!!! The Anti Christian Liberties Union.

  • hell yeah

  • THEY VIOLATED A COURT ORDER!!! THEY VIOLATED A LAW!!! What if that had been an islamic prayer? You would all be crying foul. Hypocrites!!!!!!!!!

  • nope your wrong not me keep believing your own bull shit

  • How dare those Christians say a prayer in my presence!

*eyes roll back in head and begins foaming at the mouth*

  • They were found NOT guilty. Finally, justice.

  • yeah i know

    there are so many

the trial was today but is still going on....

  • These are the end times...I can't believe how many atheist there are in this country now....so, so sad.

  • Ok, but you commune with a cosmic zombie jew by eating his flesh and blood. And you think I'm the sad one?

  • Jesus said to eat of his flesh, God said man cannot live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God, drink of his blood, the blood he shed on the cross that covers the one who repents of his sins and sets him free. I want some of that! Without blood there is no retribution for what has been done against God and instead of taking ours he took his only Son's . They die for their ignorance and it is heartbreaking to those who love, especially the Father

  • no there not!! your an idiot!!

    i go to this school!

    there being charged with stupidity!!!

and they wouldn't let the student body president speak at there graduation because she might say something christian!

    this is ridiculous

  • The school needs to teach you the difference between there, their, and they're. You're is different than your.

  • facing a $5000 fine and 6 months in jail for praying.... Is this a good use of tax money? I'm pretty sure every American President has said a public prayer. The LEGALISTIC LEFT.... ridiculous.

  • stop posting the same spam on different youtube channels. It's already been made clear to you the reason they were fined was not because they were praying, but because they violated a consent decree. idiot...

  • These school officials were sued by students for using their position to promote their religion in clear violation of the establishment clause. They agreed to an Order of Consent and Decree as settlement to this suit. They signed the agreement and then BROKE it, knowingly. This is why they have been charged with contempt. The ACLU is not involved in this contempt charge. As a school official at a school function this is not free speech but GOVERNMENT speech. They cannot endorse religion.

  • Students weren't there. I guess you don't get that.

  • Students were there. Two students recited the Pledge of Allegiance before the prayer. But even so the consent order THAT THEY SIGNED forbids them from promoting religion at ANY school function, students or no. They are facing a contempt hearing not for praying, but for purposefully defying a court order.

  • "Praying" is not "Promoting." No more than me driving a Dodge promotes Dodge. Oh, you mean the Pledge that says, "Under God" is ok? Have you ever heard anyone pray before? Did it hurt you?

  • You obviously do not understand the difference between the establishment clause and the free expression clause of the first amendment, a little reading would go a long way in your case.

The use of something IS endorsement. Its why athletes are paid money simply to wear a certain brand.

When the lawsuit was brought they had the school officials dead to rights with their wrongdoing. They settled and agreed to a consent decree. They went against court orders. That is contempt. .

  • @bpentium It doesn't matter. They signed an order of consent then violated it. The pledge says under god because of the 1950's red scare, as with in god we trust on the money. Schools are not allowed to lead prayers, plain and simple. The Constitution is meant to protect the rights of everyone, not just the privileged majority.

  • What happened to "one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.." Now where is there liberty and justice in arresting someone for being "under god." This is a very serious issue, and it makes me wonder, what would our founding fathers think of citizens being arrested for being christian? You should be free to practice any religion in America. This was encouraged by our founding fathers, and we should never try to alter this great republic that they made.

  • No mention of God in the original pledge in 1862.

I pledge allegiance to my Flag,

and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation indivisible,

With Liberty and Justice for all.

God was added by Pres. Eisenhower in the late 1950's under the guise of protection against communism.

They are not being arrested because they are Christian. Again, I went to a private catholic school. Religion is a private matter not one for which public funds should endorse.

  • Yeah, I guess if Christians can't say a prayer over their meal then I guess Christians shouldn't help people after floods and other disasters. Maybe we should have that separation of church and state.

  • Totally Absurd........the ACLU needs to crawl back under the rock they came from.. God is REAL... this country national anthem says "One nation under God"... our money say In "God We Trust"... our capital building is filled with bibical quotes and christian symbols... So deal with it or move to China... God is stayin you're going...Ha Ha Ha.. Praise God , Praise God , Praise God , Praise God, Praise God, Praise God, Praise God, Praise God, Praise God, Praise God, Praise God, He is Great......

  • Your God is not real.

  • Comment removed

  • Your God is not real - I have received numerous responses to my email about this.

This does not mean that God does not exist.

This does mean a God who favors one religion over another, discriminates on the basis of secual orientation and who desires constant worship and praise is not real.

  • sexual not secual...

  • Listen, if you want prayer in school, go to a private school or parochial school. The First Amendment clearly separates Church and State. Nothing is stopping prayer at home or at privately supported schools. The School district in this case is right.

U.S. Grant - "Leave the matter of religion to the family altar, the church, and the private school, supported entirely by private contributions. Keep the church and state forever separate."

  • The scary thing is that this guy is an attorney and should know that the issue is not merely prayer at dinner.

It is not the act of prayer that is criminal. It is the fact that the school violated numerous complaints about prayer in school and continued to do so.

The PUBLIC pays the cost of public schools. There shall be no intertwining of religion in public schools. It is that easy.

  • There is NO separation of church and state. It's a myth.

  • You are exactly right. God's or man's word...it does not matter what person is offended by the use of God and His word...I will go with God's word any day, because in the end, that is what matters.

  • If you are Christian or not the ACLU needs to be stopped. If someone wants prayer big deal.. If someone doesn' then don't pray or leave. Laws should not be made to protect the minority. I hope there is a big turn out of people to show their contempt for the ACLU. The ACLU should be destroyed.

  • Turn the other cheek? No? Destroy them? Okay.

  • I agree.

  • How does praying over your dinner "establishing a religion?" Besides, no students were there. The Anti Christian Liberty's Union should be destroyed.

On the other hand, the government is interfering with the free exercise of Christians. It's ok to cater to Muslims by putting in foot baths at air ports but Christians can't say a prayer of thanks for the food?

  • How does praying over your dinner "establishing a religion?"

It wasn't two guys praying. It was two guys leading a room in prayer at least that's what the video made it sound like.

Airports are private. Schools are public.

  • I imagine if the men were muslims or scientologists, the christians would be agreeing with the ACLU.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...

Could we agree to have a neutral territory where you folks can't taint? I'd grant private prayers, but to lead a prayer is a different story. There are a lot of panhandlers in my city and they think its ridiculous that they can't beg for change within 50 feet of an ATM. This is you.

  • I'm not surprised by this, since God did say that this will happen! I'm not looking for revenge by protesting or starting a riot! I'm just going to have God take care of this! He will show real REVENGE! maybe such as HELL TIME. Trust him!

  • This is not going to get any better. God will allow for a time of trail to fall on his church, but it is so that the church grows in character and valor and seeks him more. We need to stop being scared of what the government will do if we show our Christianity publically. Remember Mathew 10:32-40

  • When are we going to realize that God called us to be PEACEFUL but not inactive, Humble but not scared, meek but not weak!!! Gods sovereign Grace abounds and he allows for times like this so that His people will raise up and seek him and not back down when challenged by the world.

  • Thanks for posting this. After I heard about this incident, I was/am trying to hear BOTH sides of this story.

  • whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven, whosoever shall deny me before men him will I also deny before my father which is in heaven Matthew 10:32-33

  • my first reaction to this is that all the real christians should gather outside that place and pray. Shadrack, Meeshack, and Abindigo(I know I spelled that wrong)are great examples of how to handle this.

  • Firemanpaul7, you are absolutely right--Jesus DID say this would happen. However, I do think when stuff like this happens we Christians get a little emotional, simply because it's unfair and absurd. On the other hand, because stuff like this seems to be happening more frequently, it's becoming more apparent to me that Jesus will be back soon.

  • No there shouldn't be a riot. that would totally go against what JESUS says to do. "when they slap you on one cheek, offer the other also." I agree this is ourrageous but Jesus says plainly in the scriptures that this would happen. It's not any "If' but a "when".

  • Unbelieveable.... If those teachers go to jail there will be a riot... What in Hell is going on IN THIS COUNTRY... the ACLU should be dystroyed immediately..
