Jesus, Chris Pennie is a beast. They managed to get an even better drummer, here's to hoping they can get an equally impressive bass player to replace Mic.
@prid92 Good thing I have been saving absences since January and I'm maintaining an A in all my classes. I wish you could go though. It's got to suck missing this :(
lucky bastard getting that close to claudio while he is performing... imagine if claudio would have brushed that kids hair at 1:54 it would have been like tom hanks on the simpsons movie.
its been like '01 or '02 since second stage turbine blade.. its def changed especially when he goes back and sings these older songs. like look up old videos of them live and his voice sounds on the spot with these songs
@michaelstevenwashere i see your point but it in the documentary it shows him at his desk or sumthin of that sort and he's singing everything evil pretty high and that documentary was shot around the same time they performed theses shows. idk maybe i'm just being nitpicky but it seems like he's not even trying on the vocals at times, look at the Junesong Provision performance and you'll see what i mean
Chris Pennie plays it like it's his job. He has no emotion, and it bothers me. Josh was flipping his shit the entire time he played every song because he had so much emotion. I respect that.
Well, technically, it is his job, just like it's all of their jobs, just like it was Josh's job, too. I have the utmost respect and admiration for the work Josh did on the first three albums and tours, but it's hard to argue against Chris' technical ability. And yes, Josh had crazy emotion, which was great, but just because Chris is slightly more physically reserved doesn't mean he's not into it. Just look at his face in some close-ups; he is 100% physically, emotionally, and mentally invested.
He's an "alright" drummer respectively, and it's from being a drummer myself it's not like i'm just talking s***. But there's just a little something the band is missing when they jam on
Amen to that. Chris is a friggin' fantastic drummer, and he does the parts near flawlessly. However, we can't forget who wrote the majority of those parts in the first place.
True, but there IS something slightly entertaining about seeing a drummer like Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, with an "Every freaking thing except the kitchen sink"-type set. My only thing is, I know Chris Pennie uses a double-kick. With something like that, I tend to prefer the sound of two seperate bass drums, as opposed to two pedals on the same drum.
Exactly. I do prefer Josh, though, simply because he has more emotion to his playing.
Don't anyone give me shit about saying that either. Chris is an amazing drummer, no doubt about it. But Josh was there when these songs were written. He was there to experience all the shit these songs are about. Besides, they grew up playing together. Their styles blend so perfectly because of that.
No one can replace Josh, but Chris does a damn good job at trying.
I dunno. Personally, I'm of the mindset that they're both pretty much equal. Equal but different. Ya know what I mean? It's not really a matter of who's truly better, as it is whose style you like more. Both drummers add their own unique stylings to the band and their music. It's not as some people (Admittedly, not you, but still...) want to belive that "Josh/Chris is SOOO much better than Chris/Josh.". They're both pretty much equal in my eyes.
Nate Kelly wrote pretty much the majority of SSTB, Josh didn't really contribute much to anything except In Keeping Secrets. Chris Pennie is better than Josh Eppard especially in attitude. People just want their little Josh back because he is da original!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hate.
Not sure what you're trying to say there, but if you're saying he didn't do well, then what the hell, man? Even in fairly boring songs like Once Upon, the drums were awesome.
really? cuz my life would have been crushed and i would have devoted my life to make bouncer´s lives miserable...that bastard pulled him down just when he was sooo close
You gotta be careful about those forums at cobalt though. Not calling you or them liars, but i got some erroneous information on there a few times about some ofg the story lines as they relate to the songs.Thats because there is alot of speculation about the amory wars on there.(people on cobalt could base a theory on the way one of claudios farts sounded ;)
Yeah but Coheed also has songs that sound metal, classic rock, prog rock, altrernative, blusey, ect. Thats why i enjoy them so much because they do not let themselves be defined by genre.
@TheReaL7thSon What's so impressive is that, despite branching all those genres, they still manage to hold true to their own sound really well. Regardless of the style, it always still sounds like Coheed.
Hey you miserable disliker guy...I"M RUNNING YOU DOOOOWWWWWNNNNN!!!
