i know you said the 300mm lens does not equate to distance, but what would the ideal distance be with this lense? could it focus on something quite easily from 45-60 meters away? im not expecting head shots, but i would like to be able to get 3-4 people in one picture from 45 meters +?
i own a sony alpha 290 since christmas 2010 so im not very experienced yet but i really like taking pictures of nature and sportscars and such.
im interested in a telezoom lens and ive seen that theres a tamron telezoom lens available. i costs about 130€. whats your opinion on that lens? i cant and i dont really want to affort me a much more expensive lens right now.
gordon help please.......i have the sony A450 and to be honest i find it a great camera. i recently bought the sigma 70 - 300 mm lens which was also a great lens however i have recently suffered with the gears stripping incident. fortunatly for me and the sales of goods act im getting a full refund. my question is im about to buy a new lens....but which one....the tamron 70 - 300 or the sony 75 - 300 mm. There is a big difference in price hence the reason i ask.
This was the kit lens I got with my a350. Even after 4 years, and an upgrade (a580 now), its one of the 3 lenses most often used on my travels. I love how it fits in where the kit lens ends. It struggles somewhat with flare in brighter conditions, the hood only protects against so much. But I won't be getting the 70-300G anytime soon. As for those looking for the 75-300mm on Nikon/Canon, no it won't. You'll need a dedicated Nikon/Cannon 300mm zoom for that.
What would you advise as a good beginner dslr. I don't want to spend more than 300 euros, and I was thinking about buying a sony dslr. Because they also take Minolta lenses.
Because i am interested in airplanes i loved to buy a bigger telelens. Because my budget isn't very big i would lik e to by a sigma lens. Any idea if this one should be able to to the job???
I recently purchased a kit with this and a 18-70mm lens like you said is normally packaged together. well, my question is, as i am taking pictures at many outdoor american football events, i would actually like some extra zoom abilities while not buying another lens. are there any teleconverters that WILL WORK with this 75-300mm lens? none of the sony ones have it listed.
i just ordered my 75-300 from sony for my a350. i think it´s a gread price for under 250€. i hope to have a lot of fun with that lense:-) i think i`ll switch to canon eos 5d mk II later.
It wasn't about a Canon-made lens, it was about a lens that fits the EF mount. Canon 75-300 is extremely bad, and UK price for a Canon new 70-300 is £400, which was way beyond my budget.. TWO MONTHS AGO - it's long since I bought a Sigma 70-300. Bonus points for you for answering prehistoric comments.
i ave a sony dslr a200 and i am a massive sports photography fan but only for myself not for proffesionnal use i have a normal 18-70mm lens and wantin 2 upgrade for a better lens for close up pics is the 75-300mm gonna b any good
i have a sony alpha 200 and when i maka a pic the photos is not sharp and in the hole photo you see all little grains so what can it be?(my AF-area was on point)
What was your ISO sensitivity setting? Sounds like it was quite high - say, 400 or 800 ISO or higher, and what you're seeing is electronic noise. To avoid this, you'll need to shoot at lower ISOs like 100 and 200 ISO, but these in turn need more light, which normally means longer exposures.
oo well that was just a good setting the most pichters are ouside and i do the ISO on 800 or higher when i do it mail function and its alow when i try it on auto mote.
@zipton360 it's a Sony Alpha lens, it is compatible to all Alphas. personally I use an old Minolta Maxxum 100mm-300mm F4.5-5.6 Xi doesn't cover the 75-99mm but I had it from my old minolta, it's Japanese and feels better built and sturdier than this lens
the sal70300g.. better quality and performance, but ONLY BY A LITTLE BIT... i say it's not worth paying the extra $500 for the sal70300g; for $500 extra i'd expect it to be better by a huge margin, but it isn't much.. i'd say, stick with the sal70300
I own this lens which I'm using at my Alpha 200 and it's a decent lens but it does make some chromatic aberration. It's not horribly bad but it can be an annoyance in some situations.
Because of your review, I bought the dslr a-200. I love it! The picture quality is professional, but it's more detailed than a point and shoot. I have alot to learn.
One question I have and could not find an answer to in my manual is; is it possible to use the display screen as the "view finder" rather than just menu mode. I had grown to love using the display screen instead of the tiny viewfinder in my old Nikon.
What you're describing is called 'Live View', but this is not available on the A200. For this you'd need to go for the A300 or A350. PS - for tips on using your DSLR, check out our sister site dslrtips . com...
Good Video! I have the Sony A100 and ive been using the standard lens kit (18-70mm) and i've been looking into upgrading to a telephoto lens. In your opinion which lens is better? This Sony 75-300mm or the Quantaray 28-300 mm f/3.8-6.3. Which lens is better over all. Both lens' are in my price range but I can't decide. Or can u recommend any other brands that might be just as good and i should be researching?
Hi, I haven't tested the Quantaray so can't comment, but there's several Sony owners in the Sony section of the Cameralabs forums if you fancy asking there...
any chance to see review of sony a200 from You in short time? As far as i know it's available to buy for some time. I really want know that Sony really improved a ISO sensitivity, so photos are less grainy at higher ISOs. Thank you for your reviews, and tips, they are really helpful.
Hi, I didn't use a tripod for the sample images here and in the Cameralabs gallery for this review, but if you check the latter, the shutter speeds were pretty quick. See the review for details on how well the sensor-shift stabilisation works with this lens.

hi how far in distance does 300mm amount to feet or meters in zoom distance
teddyboysmith2 3 years ago
The focal length in mm doesn't equate to distance - sorry! See our lens guide at camera;abs . com for an explanation.
cameralabs 3 years ago
You can not measure it in distance but in degrees of field of view. The exact degrees depend on your sensor.
