Steves personal life has nothing to do with the great music he worte. He is an artist and playes what he feels. You watch too many soap tv shows. Love him or leave him. Don't cut him up! We all have shit going on!
Do you have a video of Cocaine Cannot Kill My Pain from the Texas Connection? He sings that one with such pain its on the verge of disturbing to see but is so emotionally done... If you can find it check it out, best Steve performance I've seen yet
Texas is legendary for producing first class musicians...Austin is the Live Music Capital of the world and lil ol Lubbock is an incubator for Austin bound musicians..I'm a native Texan and believe there's only two states..Texas and not Texas.....regardless of what you think about the Lone Star state..Texas' musicians speak for themselves..

dude ..you need to get back on drugs ...cause you absloutely suck now...lolll ..all you wanna do is puke liberal politicts all over your fans....at least you dont have to constantly pull your hair out of your eyes anymore (cause your bout bald)
steve earle wasnt actually born in texas according to legend, but did first set foot in texas soil furnished by his grandparents and carried around in a shoe box.according to legend
Steve financed every crackhouse in Nashville until he'd sold his last guitar, I've heard him say it was mourning Townes that started it and his own brand of Townes's self destructivenes that kept it going. The fact that he's still with us is a gift from either god or Stephen F Austin
There was a Rock Radio program in Houston (KSRR 97 ROCK) who interviewed Steve back in 1989 or 90. Steve was hoarse and said he felt pretty bad but the DJ badgered him about singing playing to a canned backing track. Earle politely declined 3 times and pointedly said, "I'm gonna save what I got left for the fans tonight."
I've thought that was very responsible of him. The DJ was a guy Handled "MOBY". We haven't heard anything about him since.
@bassmasterkt it's Little Rock not "little rock", I'm a born Arkansan who married into Texas and aint never goin' back again, but I still have respect for Arkansas, Home of Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash

I used to think Steve Earle was a musical genius. Now? I can't connect with his political BS. I don't listen to music to be told what to think, I can form my own opinions. I wish he was back on the smack.
Steve's an amazing live artist, what you see is what you get or vice versa.... here he is pretty close to when he got taken away, still could make it on his own... some got it, some don't.... glad he's clean now and we had the oppurtunity to enjoy his musical genious for so long time.
hey, some of the best musicians in the world were born and raised in Texas, or grew up there. don't make fun of Texas please. i am a native Texan and, all things considered, i am proud of my home state.
Here's a thought, maybe Steve grew up and got off of the coke and heroin and started thinking clearly. I'll be the first to say I liked his early music better than the latest. I just hope Steve can say the same, if not, he'd be back into the drugs. Do you want to hear his drug induced music or his real thoughts. We've allready lost Townes, we don't need to lose Steve. I change my mind a lot, and it's allways based on past experience. jk
To continue, even today when he sings Copperhead Road, Back to the Wall. Unrepentant, The Other Kind, he seems insincere. Be happy for rehab, but forgetting completely where you came from alienates people. He went as far in an interview to say he hates Skynyrd, because they are a bunch of hillbilly's! Well Steve, where did you come from? Steve Earle fan forever....86'-2000 that is. After that...I just cant relate.
Steve was raised in Texas, about 30 miles from where i was raised, we are both hillbilly then, i reckkon....i thank God he survived his addictions, just like i am surviving mine, and he has been able to continue sharing his gifts with us all..
Steve Earle transformed from one of the most rowdiest, rebel ass songwriters with the gift of classic ballads, to one of the most prolific political protest writers of our time. The sad part of the story is, during that transformation, he isolated many of his fans and turned into a completely different animal. Good sense, if not good management, would say to integrate the before and after styles to carry the fan base. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and I guess he outgrew US. Or vice-versa?.
To me an artist performs, interpets things in the way they see it. That is what makes them an artist. Like it or not that is the art. There personal life or lifestyle have nothing to do with any of it. You either like it, understand it or not. Plain and simple. The rest is just plain bullshit. Artists do not act or do things that others expect. If they did they would not be artists, just copies of us.
i think this was not a good time in Steve's life, i have loved his music for years, Jerry Jeff's, too, both wonderful talents who have seen their share of the hell in life...but, God bless them both, keep rockin'!!
I love his songs. I think I like the younger Steve a little more I don't agree with some of his ideas. Steve Earle is the most played album at my house!
I think he looks amazin'and it's so cool he is playing a plugged in mando.....this guy is a lot smarter than people think..he's articulate, witty, has great musical taste and is so beautiful....
He does talk a lot, check out some of the interviews he's done. You should hear him go on about Bush and the war! I love'im, seen him live a couple of times, and I like what he says with or without music.
When I said he looked creepy, and blaming the 80's, I guess I'm referring more to his earrings, the bandana on his wrist, that sort of thing. The scary eyes and mustache could be the coke.
it was the heroin, he's 13 yrs clean now, thank God for that...he is amazing, an incredible talent...he's always worn the bandana on his wrist....God bless him...
walk in his shoes before you audiphile/sociologists get all critical.. hell ya might wanna get my guitars from the pawnshops too..
