  • One thing I think people who are berating Gwen have to remember is that these words are coming from grief and her own shame. She's not blaming the Doctor. She's just feeling so horrified at her own people that she thinks even the Doctor would turn his back on them for what they've done. She's not blaming the Doctor at all.

  • All those big events in history when he couldn't help must be under a time lock.

And as much as the Doctor loves the human race, I agree with Gwen. Sometimes he must feel so, so ashamed of us.

  • Sorry, Gwen, you're just bitter. The Doctor's not there this time because he's busy looking after the ENTIRE REST OF THE UNIVERSE. Anyway, we've been to New New York multiple times, so we know for a fact that this isn't the end of the world.

  • ''You never interfere with other people or planets. Unless theres children crying.''

    How very awkward.

  • let's not forget about must-haves in timelines. it's very possible that even if he wanted to he couldn't help them out. like hitler, pompeii, ect... hell, just preventing the death of rose's father fucked up alot of shit. plus, it's a sort of crossover that wouldn't happen, couldn't happen, because the doctor would have to overshadow people, and torchwood-only fans would be all "wtf..?" gwen doesn't really know him either, so this is more like her opinion plus other stuff. ran out of room.

  • but the doctor would have saved the children, wouldn't he? there's no way he would ever decide to let them die/be harvested, no matter what the other humans do.

  • She's so over dramatic. The Doctor ALWAYS saves Earth. The only reason they didn't bring him in was because The Doctor can save the day without killing anyone and Torchwood always goes the overcomplicated way. honestly, They killed Tosh, Owen and Ianto (the best characters)... its time to kill Gwen too, to make it fair.

  • @MitzyTrix

Wow. Harsh. I suspect the characters do what the WRITER(S) want them to do.

  • true he cannot be everywhere at once but an event that large would leave records.

  • Of course he wasn't there. He was having tea with Gandhi followed by transporting Amelia Earhart to the planet Barcelona, and then helping a young Donna Noble reach 100 words per minute making her the best temp in Chiswick. It was a busy hour and a half.

  • The doctor cannot be everywhere at once sometimes the human race has to help itself.

  • I really hate how people bash Gwen all the time. Although she DOES flirt with Jack, and shag Owen, then claim to be in love with Rhys and overall fuck up Janto relations, she's an awesome, bad ass character.

  • AWSOME! I BLOODY LAV YOU GWEN COOPER! <3

  • wasnt Earth signal jammed? so noone could get hold of the Doctor. he wouldnt stand back and allow a planet to be bullied. even if it was a fixed point in time, he would have intervened the most he possibly could. as for the 'he was busy with something else' excuse, he has a time machine. unless he was on Earth smashing the shit out of Daleks, Cybermen and the Master while these events occured, he would be protecting Earth. fuck, im such a nerd. :P

  • This always makes me so mad...I am fully aware that this was Tochwood and not Doctor Who...but seriously...where was he when thousands and thousands of children were about to be abducted? What was he doing? :(

  • @emmyrossumfn101 At this point in time, I believe he was investigating cracks in reality caused by an exploding TARDIS that collapsed the universe and then had to sacrifice himself in order to reboot the universe.

  • @RobinShirewood 10 appeared to Jack before his regeneration, therefore the events took place before Tennnant regenerated.

  • @emmyrossumfn101 I'm sure he knew that Jack sorts it out. I mean he's been to Earth in the future and he knows a lot. I feel like if he didn't know they'd be okay he'd help them out, but they were fine. They lived through it and even though the experience really fucked Jack up, the children were saved. Sometimes the people of Earth just need to do things for themselves.

  • @emmyrossumfn101 Imagine Gwen holding The Doctor at gun point. We know she's capable of pulling the trigger, and The Doctor has to answer for that.

  • dont confuse the Doctor with Torchwood!

If the Doctor was always around Torchwood wouldnt have a reason to be created!

They cant bring the Doctor any time they need help otherwise these would be much more complocated or they would episodes of the Doctor Who's series!

Also at the Doctor sometimes apply some "rules of time" that they didnt used to apply at the past!!One of them is the concequences of the "fix point"!

  • Of course imagine what it would have been like for the Doctor during miracle day, all those people, made into fixed points in time, it must have practical repelled the Tardis. And if he were to see, that deep down we will always murder the weak and sick even when murdering becomes nigh impossible, well there are some things even he cannot forgive.

  • The Doctor can't save humanity from itself.

  • I bloody love it when they talk of the Doctor in Torchwood!

  • first: Children Of Earth might have been a fixed point in time, that the doctor couldn't change, like waters of mars.

second: just think of the Judoons reaction if they found out what the 456 did there :0 (or the architect, leader of the shadow proclamation :P)

  • @SserpxProductions Yeah, but the Doctor manages to change a fixed point in time in "Waters of Mars"...

  • @JantoForever A bit, but the colony is still destroyed and the Captain still dies, which was really what was fixed.

  • @JantoForever @JantoForever

but at the end when the Captain at tha Mars colony talks to the Doctor and shoots herself at her house, the doctor realized that how bad it was to change the history like that... and like notablegoat said, the fixed point still happens, just in another way.

  • im not convinced. the doctor would be there in a second

  • I often wonder how The Doctor would feel if he found this tape.....

  • I bloody love it when they talk of the Doctor in Torchwood!

  • Those who are saying that the Doctor should have done something need to remember an important detail he himself has said. He can't always save everyone.

  • Chills.

  • I don't get why everyone hates Gwen. She's fantastic and quite frankly kick ass, and Eve Myles plays her so well, especially in this scene.

  • lol Russell T Davies.

The Doctor Ignores government sanctioned infanticide so aliens to get their drug "hit".

Then Captain Jack kills his grandson to eliminate said aliens!

After watching that bollox it's no wonder that Moffat switched the character from Cpt Jack Harkness to Canton Delaware

  • @The8thDOCTOR to feature in the 11th Doctor episodes

  • the doctor can't save the mankind when the menace is the mankind itself...

  • @kiorili You said it perfectly. ;-)

  • The Doctor will always save humanity from every monster in the universe. Every monster that is, except from the worst monster of all. Our selves.

  • I LOVE Gwen Cooper and the actress who portrays her (Eve Myles). She is such a magnificent character. I love her gut and feisty energy. She owns every scene she's in! Incredible acting! :)

  • When the doctor turns up and ends up fighting monsters, he doesn't generally know what's going on. The fact remains that all of space and time is very big and this point is only one tiny part of it.

  • The doctor didn't turn up because it isn't his show.

  • @lovelylizzie333 True, he meant to save the world; but due to contract obligations and prior commitments, he had to leave them to fend for themselves

  • isnt this after journeys end? she talks like she hasnt seen the doctor. please reply

  • @kseromore glad im not the only one who saw this

  • I find this to be a really insufficient explanation to why The Doctor doesn't help in Children of the Earth. I mean seriously, Jack should have the TARDIS number on speed dial for emergencies like this!

  • i can just imagine how 11 would respond to Children of Earth.

"Nobody HUMAN has anything to say to me today!"

  • I donno maybe the doctor didnt interfere because its fix point in time or whatever. Or maybe because he just found out his 'song' was ending. But the end is still the same, planet was saved future timeline's secure, humanity is back on its feet, everyone became immortal and mortal again. Maybe the doctor only interfere when the timeline is in jepordy.

  • And yet, you have to wonder, what happened to the rest of the 456, surely their homeworld must've been rather angry that their main source of a high was cut off rather suddenly, and began preparing retrubution.

    The answer was simple.

    The Doctor found out.

  • @Godzilla1704 Awesome logic!

  • wow. I really got to catch up on Torchwood. Just finished downloading season 2!

  • The Doctor Would never ever turn away and leave. He would fight till his last breath. He would be dissapointed but he wouldnt sacrifice 10 % of the Children. Because they are innicent and the Doctor wouldnt ever let a innocent kid die.

  • That's bullshit. The Doctor has said several times how much he loves the human race. He can't do it this time because he can’t be everywhere at once. He can’t do everything for you. Sometimes the human race has to clean up their own messes. In fact, that’s her job.

  • @toastknight Yea, he is a time traveller not a babysitter.

  • @toastknight But of course! The thing is however, Russel T Davis is... how do I put this... just a wee bit pretenious and emo. Time and again with Torchwood he COMPLETELY misses the point of Doctor Who. It's supposed to be romanticism and optimism winning out over cynicism and darkness; with Torchwood, it's the other way around.

  • @toastknight He has a time machine. He can be everywhere at once. Moffat has basically done that with 11. The Doctor isn't a good guy. There's a lot of bad in him. Also, this mess was created by one of The Doctor's companions. That's The Doctor's responsibility.

  • @toastknight Well he can be everywhere at once, he timetravels through space.

  • @toastknight Yeah, WE know that. This is a TV show, and she barely knows the doctor. Pretty sure these are all assumptions on her part.

  • @mattjrumbleyt just you, cunt

  • If I was the doctor I would turn in shame seeing them try to do this.

  • the most important minute in all of Torchwood history

  • Is it just me, or does she look like Noel Fielding?

  • Some things, even terrible ones, have to take their course. He can't stop everything.

  • Let's see... This was in 2009, correct? So Hebrew either taking care of Mars's plumbing or having an affair with Elizabeth the First.

  • What about all the innocent kids and there families suffering because of the 456? He should have saved them, but he didn't because he's a useless prick

  • @MEareCAT He doesn't just swoop in and fix all of our problems. He saves us from alien threats that we can't help. Threats that we would be defensless against without him. What happened with the 456 and Torchwood's involvement was brought upon ourselves. Jack handled the situation originally as best he could. His immortality pales in comparison to The Doctor's and he still has a lot to learn about how a situation like that should have been handled.

  • The Doctor was in the future on Mars, Gwen. There was some really messed up water.

  • I've got to agree with Gwen. Even though the Doctor loves our planet very much. There must be times like that one, where he would be really ashamed of us. Everything he has done for us, taught us. And, the second, we are given the opportunity to deal with aliens like the grown up he believes us to be. We fell at the first hurdle, and made all the wrong choices. The Doctor really would hang his head in shame at us. And that breaks my heart.

  • @MissJGibson he knows (in the whoverse anyways) we get better tho, we rise above it. if we were a lost cause then he wouldn't care half as much as he does

  • @227060 Yea I know that. I know he cares very much for our planet as he does. But sometimes I don't half feel ashamed of the Human Race, especially in real life. Lets face it. This planet is a mess. xx

  • @MissJGibson 2 b fair, we haven't got another planet with life forms to really compare to, in the grand scheme of things we might not be that bad. but yes i get ashamed sometimes too. hell you only have to look at the recent riots in London and other UK cities this week to see what i mean. That and most soap operas

  • I was looking at the videos and articles about the UK riots and I thought of this... wonder if that's disrespectful?

  • @akiboo92 so did i, maybe we should broadcast this. *looks forward* with the permission of BBC and the vidoes original owner of course ;)

  • Shit, I don't even like Torchwood all that much, but this sent chills down my spine!

  • @thejackist

Yeah, this is one of my favorite scenes out of the whole Doctor Who franchise. It's really powerful.

  • This always gives me chills... This might be about the storyline, but it's all true about the real world.

  • if they incude the doctor it would be more bout dr who instead of torchwood but i love both and i still remember watching children of the earth even though it werent for my age group. it was brilliant hope miracle day (new torchwood series)is just as good. miss ianto=( thumbs up if you liked the dr who seson so far=)

  • Oooh...Still sends chills down my spine!

  • i haven't started watching the series yet but I don't understand, is the doctor not allowed to help with certain events because this seems like it should be at the top of his list of things he should open a can of whoop ass on.

  • I hope that everyone has downloaded this to show the BBC that we won't be treated like shit.

  • @thatguywiththeegg Yeah, that'll show em... oh no wait... the ratings will just go down and the show will be cancelled permanently. Hmm... plan requires more planning. Or maybe people like you can just grow the hell up and chill the hell out. The BBC is not out to get you.

  • @LibertineDeSade

What in the fuck are you talking about ?As I said in the other post we payed for this out of OUR TAXES. We are rightly pissed off that America, Canada, and Australia get it a week before us. Do some research first and don't talk about what you don't understand, idiot. The ratings are already down by over a million from CoE so our boycott is working, if Torchwood gets cancelled it is not our fault, stop trying to blame the victim.

  • @thatguywiththeegg You're the idiot if you actually believed any of that gibberish you just typed. I'm just wondering now, do you actually understand what goes on when you're watching the show? Or are you just watching for the pretty colors??

  • @LibertineDeSade Ah yes the "I will ignore what you said and resort to personal attacks because I am too stupid to do otherwise" train of thought, grow up you tit. What I typed is fact, simple as. I will not be dealing with a dumb fuck who doesn't listen after I have gone to the trouble of explaining my point of view so buh-bye you sad little idiot, I would advise you to learn some respect if you wish to deal with people in the future.

  • @thatguywiththeegg Um... YOU called ME an idiot in your response to me. So that "I will ignore what you said and resort to personal attacks because I am too stupid to do otherwise", is actually YOUR train of thought.

Are you insane or just really good at trolling??

  • @LibertineDeSade Thats nice.

  • @thatguywiththeegg -trollface-

  • but i think if the Doctor did know it was probably, at that point, a fixed moment in time. he had to let it happen and i even if he was ashamed or humans i can't picture the Doctor not weeping for the species he's chosen to protect and love.

  • I love how Davies threw this in as a tip of the hat to dr who. sometimes i forget where torchwood came from, but this reminds the audience of how connected they are

  • where the hell was the doctor during this time?

  • @strangecity the only thing i can think of was that he was in the 1960s and didn't know or busy rebooting the universe. How do the Torchwood and Doctor who timelines match up anyway? It would be interesting to see what he was doing during this time (since i assume this would have been during 11s time).

  • Doctor who is the greatest TV show of all time. i feel sorry for the people out there that dont get to sit down on a saturday evening and watch the crazy and billiant old man and his little blue box drop out of the sky and save the world :)

  • This is so perfect and sad and just heart-breaking. It's not that the Doctor blames the human race. It's more that he is so disgusted and ashamed with the human race for allowing themselves to treat one another in such a way that he truly, physically can not stand to look upon that fixed point in time as it happens. It's sad.

  • @KTxtonguextied the doctor didn't even know about it, if he did i'm sure he would owned the 456

  • @anakha6 The Doctor knows everything!!

  • this was perfect. I loved that they mentioned him

  • Creepy.

Also very true: Sometimes you just want to recoil from humanity, when you want to ask whether we should be allowed to persist.

  • @doctorpsycho1960 Somehow we have to believe that common Human decency can prevail

  • Yeah, that is what I thought. He was away in some other business and didn't know about it.

By the time he learned about it, it was probably all over, with Captai Jack having already the Earth, (as Doctor was able to find him on an alien spaceship in the end of End of Time)

  • Very sad, I almost cried when I saw her talking about the Doctor failed to show, and then it showing the human race in its darker moments. :(

  • ALl true what she said

  • sad like, but i think there must be another reason, the kids are innocent and he wouldnt blame them... god im reading way to much into this

  • I think she means the fact that the human race is willing to sacrifice 10% of the children, because thats just sick, and the Doctor would fight! Till the end.

  • @SiriusIsNotDead1989 Agreed, the fact that Jack and Gwen gave up is one in a long line of despicable acts that are completely inhuman. The whole of humanity is better than these than RTD makes his characters and Wikileaks is proof enough humanity wouldn't fail to expose the smallest cover up. Jack and Gwen are the everyman turn tragic antihero. Torchwood as a concept is entertaining beyond these beyond these two, I love to see more Torchwood 1899 with the lovely evil lesbians.

  • @SiriusIsNotDead1989 like the doctor says your in their homes you have their children of course their going to fight,he knows there are times people will take care of their own problems, also he left jack here the unkillable man,and knowing the future knows that the children arent taken

  • @Peattie61 Time can be rewritten

  • @Megazord5

    He can't change major events.

  • @AsianLeader007 Well, no, he can. The only events he can't change are those that are "fixed points in time and space". If history can change for the better without causing a paradoxical recoil in a concurent timeline, he sees it as an opportunity. The Doctor can sense how time can or does flow in any given direction and the different realities that a timeline can skew into given a proper nexus point, so he can deliniate between the fixed points and the events that present opportunities.

  • @SiriusIsNotDead1989 What's more sick is that if this really happened, it would be the west making that 10% by taking the children of the poorest nations in the world by force, not their own

  • @override367 I lol'd.

  • @override367 sadly you are probably right.
