I was supposed to edit pictures the other day and I don´t know if I was just procrestinating, but I spent most of the time watching your videos. Thanks for that. ;)
But I have two questions:
1.How many pictures do you usually take at a wedding?
@zagcamera Although I do not have my D60 anymore, I enjoyed using it as a light camera without an external flash to get creative photos of small elements, like place-cards, cake topper, etc...
If u don't mind me asking, how much did u carve for this particular weeding? I'm a newbie trying to break into the biz. I'm shooting with the CANON 7D. Also, why all the different bodies?
@WritersRow I'm more expensive than most photographers in my area. I have a habit of buying new bodies and not selling the old ones. They're my babies.
whatsinmycamerabag . com HEY PEOPLE CHECK THIS NEW WEBSITE ESPECIALLY FOR WHATS IN MY CAMERA BAG VIDEOS, START UPLOADING THEM SO EVERYONE KNOWS WHERE TO LOOK, SPREAD THE WORD
@BIGredsArtWORLD19 It's different every year and every wedding is different, too ;) I am one of the more expensive photographers in my area, I work by word of mouth, and less often than lower cost photographers.
@mrmixjay The 70-200 will fit in the center channel, whether it is on or off of a camera body. The 17-55 will fit on its side or vertical in the adjustable compartments adjacent to the longer center compartment. Velcro sections make the bag very configurable. This particular Lowepro bag is quite large.
@mikemarin106 Easy question (because I never use flash during the ceremony, whether it is allowed or not). I use various combinations of the 70-200 f2.8, 17-55 f2.8, 50mm f1.8 and 35mm f1.8 depending on the distance I am to the bride and the lighting. :)
The 18-200 is like shooting through the bottom of a milk bottle, way to much distortion and also very soft. Full frame all the way, I want my 50mm to be a 50 not an 85! FF images just look sexier! ;-)
@MadmanDKDK Personal opinion : if you have a good crop body with good noise control and a fast lens, you don't need a full frame body.I use a Canon 7D and a Canon 50mm f1.4 (my fastest lens) and I'm very happy with the results. (excuse my bad english)
@Robellislol Full Frame in itself doesn't make for faster focus, but the technologies that manage the bigger chip do.
e.g. The D300 is slower than the D700. The D700 is slower than the D3 (even though it's the same chip) It's all in the engineering and part of the 'pro' price you're paying for
I think it's pretty much who each brand want to aim there cameras at, take the canon 1dmkiv, thats not full frame, yet it has the fastest AF of pretty much every camera ever made, its clearly designed for high pace photography, and then look at the 5dmkii, designed for pretty motionless things like landscapes, portraits, still life and the like, and it does the job perfectly.
I dont think its the price that affects the AF speed, its the target market that does :)
Hey great video, I am thinking of getting the Lowepro Slingshot 302 AW would that be about the same size as the one you have? right now I have the Tembo daytime back pack and back packs make me sick, as for my gear I have the 5D II, 7D, EF 24-105 L, EF 16-35 L, EF 100 L Macro, EF 70-200 2.8 L II, flash, and other small goodies like filters batteries and so on, now I believe everything will fit but the 7D, Thanks;)
try (buy or rent) the mighty 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 its A LOT sharper than this 10-200 or use pro primes like zeiss or nikkor "golden ring" its expensive i know but you will NEVER regret!!!!
I would carry in my bag one wedding ring in case it could not be found by the one who gets married.... and a box of good rice, of course. By the way, I loooove eneloop batteries. I discovered them because of one video from you. Thanks a lot.
@TheSnapChick The same, more or less, i hated them. Before I found them I thought it was not positive to be charging batteries. I felt that I was spending more time in charging than in using them... hi! what are the settings if your taking shots inside/outside the church? i have a nikon d60 18-55 and 18-200 lense and a nikon sb600.which ones can i use indore/out door shots?my friend is getting married in february and i'm doing her wedding photo's.please help me. thanks! : )
@paoiedude Indoors, you will be at a disadvantage in a dark church (I prefer not to use flash in churches, regardless of whether or not it is permitted.) I'd recommend renting either a 17-55 f2.8 or 70-200 f2.8 (depending on how far you will be from the bride/groom during the ceremony). For outdoor and reception walkaround, I tend to set Aperture priority at f4. There are no "one size fits all" settings. You will need to react to the lighting available on that day.
@Jigsaw3477 Agreed. A complete "hot spare" is mandatory. When I started with digital, my backup was a film SLR. I have used flash brackets periodically. Most of the time, when lens field of view allows, I shoot horizontal and crop in post-processing for vertical.
Ummm... I shoot with a Nikon FM3a and a 50 1.8 AIS only and I sold 20 prints at my exhibition last year. Rafibad - how many exhibitions have you and your super lenses had?
Maybe if your comment wasn't such a grammatical failure, and you took the time to learn some real English, she might have even had a second thought of replying with something more.
@MungozZz Hmmm... It changes with the weather. I'm looking at 4 bodies on my shelf right now (plus a point and shoot) and about twice as many lenses. There is probably another body around the house somewhere. I should probably figure out where everything is and charge the batteries!
On FF you got different view, and Nikon has excellent full frames...but I still can understand your choice...you have so many DX lenses that are great (example 18-200)and DX is good enough...That's just your personal opinion...And obviously those FF's cost much more than DX's...I'm Rambling too much,Do I? :)
@MungozZz I do like the big, brighter viewfinder in my 35mm film cameras. Even my "relic" Nikon FG has a viewfinder that kills the D300s' in terms of brightness and size. From a results perspective, I never felt "I would have nailed that shot with FF." I'm glad that both types are out there, because it's great for everyone to have choices. Leigh
@obanlt You have a sharp eye! For most of my lenses that do not have a 77mm front diameter, I have added step up rings to bring them to 77mm. This way, when I reach for a filter or a lens cap, I only need one size in my bag. Lenses like the 18-55 and 35mm f1.8 look silly with at 52mm to 77mm step-up ring, so I keep some 52mm caps and filters around.
Just watched your D300s un-boxing and this one. (great job btw). Sense the D300s has video capture i though i would ask, if you find that more of your clients are expecting you as the photographer to provide video footage along with your Stills?
@zilds123 Thanks for watching! I have not come across any clients asking me for DSLR video. I will bid video, if asked, but I have a video pro that comes to the wedding for the shoot.
Is it the case in USA that people are cool with digital for weddings? Here in China and also in Japan - digital for a wedding is a big no no. Must be film and preferably MF. I guess it is a deep rooted thing in having something physical that was part of the scene and there as well (the film) and the step up in aesthetic quality can't hurt either...though low light would be a pain...
@sinoperture In the USA, MF is used by many photographers for weddings, but most of my clients and the clients of my peers expect digital images for capture and as the product delivered to them. I have not seen nor have been asked to shoot 35mm film for quite some time.
@Stieglitzwouldloveit It is terrific outdoors. The VR is great and, for all practical purposes, it is a very sharp lens. I'm not talking about test charts - I mean it is sharp for the real world. Its weakness would be indoors, as it only opens to f5.6 at 200mm. This would not go well in a dark church compared to the 70-200 f2.8 VR (which is 10x the price)
Watching your videos on my new iPad and the quality is awesome! What camcorder did you use to record? Do you light your group shots at all? What lenses or lens combination do you use for getting ready, group shots, ceremony, and reception? Thanks!
@santibabaran If you get bored of that iPad, just send it right over! I use a Canon HG10 to record the videos. It's a couple of years old, but a decent HD cam. I light my group shots in a few different ways, depending on the location. For a smaller wedding in a nice environment, I usually use an SB-800 with diffuser, locked to a 45 degree upwards angle. I can go on and on about lenses for the various phases of a wedding. I'll go into that in detail in my next video! Thanks for watching!
@daronthebaron In some situations, like a dark church, the 18-200 might be inadequate. On the D300s, I fearlessly, use higher ISO's however, because they are very clean. I use SB-800 speedlights with the stock diffuser, head at 45 degrees for a balance of bounce and fill.
Hi,I have a nikon D-60 and i don't use it as much, but the first original battery had worked just 4 month, is it regular life for that battery?thank you....
@CrazyLini I've used both extensively. They're both terrific. I like the way that Nikons fit in my hands better, but, honestly, I'd be happy with either. Nikon, in recent years, has put some higher-end features in their more affordable bodies. That has led me to select certain Nikon bodies.
would you say that it would be hard to switch from a canon to a nikon only reason i ask is cuz i am learning with a canon 450d atm and later in uni might want to get a 7d or 5d and if it turns our may get a d-mark 3 at somepoint, as well maybe you know why do you see mostly canon big grey telephoto zoom and not nikon's..?
@TTphotography I got the opportunity via referral from past work. By working primarily from referrals, most people who contact me know my prices from their referrer. If it's too high for them, they probably won't call me. In exchange, I bring my "A" game and try to give them photos they will cherish forever. Every wedding is different - this one required cross-country travel and the shoot was spread over two days, so the pricing was completely customized.
First of all: Thank, great video (as always).
I was supposed to edit pictures the other day and I don´t know if I was just procrestinating, but I spent most of the time watching your videos. Thanks for that. ;)
But I have two questions:

@TheSnapChick
Is it the case in USA that people are cool with digital for weddings? Here in China and also in Japan - digital for a wedding is a big no no. Must be film and preferably MF. I guess it is a deep rooted thing in having something physical that was part of the scene and there as well (the film) and the step up in aesthetic quality can't hurt either...though low light would be a pain...
sinoperture 1 year ago

Thanks!
santibabaran 1 year ago
@santibabaran If you get bored of that iPad, just send it right over! I use a Canon HG10 to record the videos. It's a couple of years old, but a decent HD cam. I light my group shots in a few different ways, depending on the location. For a smaller wedding in a nice environment, I usually use an SB-800 with diffuser, locked to a 45 degree upwards angle. I can go on and on about lenses for the various phases of a wedding. I'll go into that in detail in my next video! Thanks for watching!

Hi,
Do you find the 18-200 bright enough being not f2.8?
To compensate this, what kind of flash bouce/sphere are you using?
daronthebaron 1 year ago
@daronthebaron In some situations, like a dark church, the 18-200 might be inadequate. On the D300s, I fearlessly, use higher ISO's however, because they are very clean. I use SB-800 speedlights with the stock diffuser, head at 45 degrees for a balance of bounce and fill.

Do you supply the customer with actual prints or just the digital images?
spearmintmonkey 1 year ago
@spearmintmonkey On select occasions, I supply the customer with digital images. In either situation, I do most of the album design as a service.

Is that a 50mm f1.8? Or a 1.4?
SSLFan 1 year ago
@SSLFan 50mm 1.8. The 1.4 is nice, but I rarely use it wider than f2.8, so I have never felt a real itch for the more pricey 1.4.

why do you choose nikon or canon...and pls don't give the answer that nikon has better lenses I want a different answer...
CrazyLini 1 year ago

CrazyLini 1 year ago
@CrazyLini I wouldn't see any reason to switch if you are already down a path with Canon.

How did you get the job and how much do you get from a job like this if it isn't too personal.. XD
TTphotography 1 year ago
@TTphotography I got the opportunity via referral from past work. By working primarily from referrals, most people who contact me know my prices from their referrer. If it's too high for them, they probably won't call me. In exchange, I bring my "A" game and try to give them photos they will cherish forever. Every wedding is different - this one required cross-country travel and the shoot was spread over two days, so the pricing was completely customized.
