  • Otherworldly and beautiful!

  • @ZajiaLushiChunqiu I didn't know Chairman Mao had a YouTube account. Welcome!

  • hahaha lol

  • They will be playing this in Boston at the end of September. Whatever its ethnic source or purity, it is a powerful multimedia piece that is worth seeing in person. Personally, I like to listen to some German music, like Bach or Beethoven, played on Italian instruments like violins or cellos. Get a life.

  • A musicology told me that it is an ancient pipa mood that discovered in West part of China. It is Not Japanese music, neither Han Chinese music. The tune came from Central Asia!

  • Why play japanese music on an ancient Chinese instrument, which pre-dates japan as a nation?

  • Why not...?

  • I got one thing to say:

    1937 Nanking

    That's why!

  • Let me get this straight: you're saying that genocidal atrocities that occurred during a war which took place over 70 years ago should dictate and inhibit the sharing and mingling of musical traditions today? Doesn't seem to make much since to me. Music isn't war, more than once, it's even been cause for peace, at least on small scales.

  • yes, but the japanese people now can nothing for what they forefather did.

it would be the same, if i hate all german and austrian people cause they killed 6 milion of jews.

so, this argument, couldn't be used as reason why not...

  • Current germans benefitted from the old germany just like current japanese benefitted from invading China. Mitsubishi is an example. They used forced Chinese labour. They grew on that to be where they are.

  • Nobody and nothing will ever move on if we carry the burdens and sins of the past with us. We shouldn't forget what happened but neither should we be so swift to condemn an individual for actions they cannot possibly be responsible for. There are plenty of people caught in events who did what they did to protect their families. The blood and the guilt ultimately is on the hands of those who led.

  • saw a japanese show called tales of horror last night which has endeared me to the eerie, haunting sound of the pipa

  • This is sweet! That percussionist is my private lesson instructor. He is so good.

  • Anyone know where I can find some of this on CD?

  • "Wu Man and Friends", Traditional Crossroads, TCRO4329.

"Wu Man, Chinese traditional & contemporary music for pipa & ensemble", Nimbus rec., NI7043/4. (A double CD for the best introduction to Wu Man's art).

  • Beautiful, excellent!

  • Wu man is a remarkable player...

  • I have several of her recordings. She never ceases to amaze me.

  • she is incredible!!!

  • Most excellent in all respects.

  • Amazing!!! The music and video both are presented in a best way of Chinese music. I've been her concert in NYC, she was with 4 guest musicians. It was a most experienced concert I ever been, I also saw her play w/Yo-Yo Ma. She was a star on that concert! I think she is a truly great musician!! hope to her live concert soon.
