  • The wonder DOG!!!

  • Thank you Dall! When you get older, the old memory just doesn't serve!! But I do remembering how much I loved them! Thanks again!!

  • I'm in tears. I so miss the Captain, bunny rabbit, grandfather clock, mister greenjeans, and I forget the name but the kid w/ the funnel on his head and the big dog. What are their names? Help me with this

  • @Missmarilyn1971 The Name of the kid with the funnel hat is Tom Terrific and the dogs name is Mighty Manfred.

  • Baby Boomers will recall that Bob Keeshan was the original Clarabell the Clown on Howdy Doody. Lumpy Bannum (Mr. Greenjeans) was part of the Fred Waring orchestra who created the Little Orley stories on radio and then on records.

  • amazing what they thought about what computers were all about

  • denise for me was weird, dont know why,he just was.i guess he just didnt fit in

  • I'm Lovin' the Wake Up Song.

    Have a Great Day!!!!

    Act 4:32 (NIV)

All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own,

but they shared everything they had.

  • that is a Merlin right there , kinda like a Melvin

    :) QC

  • @Quaaludedude714 lol that was the first thing I thought! I had one of those.

  • Simon the game music.

  • Frank zappa

  • i was born in 71 so probably only watched in the 70's early 80's

  • My god, what did they do to Captain Kangaroo in the '80s? This looks horrible! I'm so glad i watched that show from the mid '60s till the early '70s.I still remember the old song, long before Good Morning Captain. One thing I do remember was the fairly gentle nature of the whole show, the show was actually interesting, and captain seemed interested in talking to the kids in the audience, much like Mr Rogers. Those were good shows, sadly I don't think they'd survive kids TV now.

  • @Oldbmwr100rs what was the origonal song?

  • @xYANKxINxOZx Look for some of the intros posted around here,it was just his old music, but I still remember it so well. The B/W shows started with it,look for some of those.

  • @xYANKxINxOZx The original theme was an old British instrumental called Puffin Billy. Keeshan found an old record of it in the studio music library just before the first show was set to go on the air! It was much cooler than this cheesy theme.

    Jeez, Lumpy looks rough here...

Thanks for posting all the same, an interesting (if cringe-inducing) slice of his later work.

  • I absolutely love this show. I would watch it everday as a child. I miss them all sooooo much. Thanks for sharing. Great memories. He and Winnie the Pooh are my favorite things from childhood! Such simpler, sweet days! :)

  • Captain is part of the first Hackers xD He is also of Asgard origin, Beam Control.

  • Pretty dang cool for the 1960's. I love this show. But Dennis is pretty stupid.

  • This makes me want to kill myself jus like mr green jeans did

  • According to Wikipedia, the same actor who played Mr. Greenjeans played Mr. Painter. Rick Berlin, of Berlin Airlift, I do not believe was in the show. (I know Rick, but not as like his best friend or anything)

  • The "Beamer Control" is a Merlin game.

  • @TheJediCharles I was going to say the same thing, LOL!

  • But I think Mr Painter was the lead singer for Berlin Airlift from Boston Mass

  • Kangaroo was in the marines for a short time...thats it period!!!!

  • i heard that capt kangaroo was a hero in the u.s.cival war. he stopped b. franklin from killing three iraqi children who were caught trying to steal cristopher columbas' patent on a new type of microwave oven

  • beam me up capt.

  • Thanks for the correction. I actually saw that interview on Johnny Carson with Lee Marvin telling the world that "Captain Kangaroo" was a war hero. Do you think he mixed up Eddie Albert for Bob Keeshan? Who knows, but I stand corrected. Thanks.

  • I heard that Captain Kangaroo (the man who played that part) was a highly decorated WWII veteran. Or maybe it was Korean. Anyway he was a bona vide hero!

  • @judygrell no thats the guy from green acres , he was a medal of honor recipient

  • Hey, I think that "beamer control" is a Merlin? sounds like it too lol

  • @truebnb i think you might be right lol. that's what it looks like to me too! ha ha ha!

  • This was after my time. The Captain only had a talking grandfather clock and a moose when I watched it.

  • @GoblinXXX

I rememeber that too! I watched his show in the mid to late seventies. This is one show that really changed with the times! Kind of like "Sesame Street" being entirely different than it was when it started in 1969.

  • @Smartboy8877 It actually started in 1955! It went to color in 68. I started in '71, and I remember when they changed the theme song to "Good Morning, Captain", but I wasn't watching it anymore, by then. This clip is sort of from the declining years, when they cut it down to a half an hour.

  • @GoblinXXX

Those are some more very interesting facts! For the record, I would like to point out that the year that it changed to color was the year that Debra Messing and the late Gary Coleman were born. Also, the year that you started watching it was the year that "All in the Family" made its debut!

  • @Smartboy8877 Oh, duh, I realize now you were talking about SESAME STREET starting in 69!

  • @GoblinXXX

    We all make mistakes!

  • Im glad i grew up back then those were hard but simple times !

  • to many mexicans and not enough love to go around !

  • @ibelucky1

What do Mexicans have to do with the content of this video?

  • @Smartboy8877 Maybe Mr. Greenjeans hires migrant workers?

  • @GoblinXXX

That is a very interesting theory my friend!

  • I recognize the handheld game "Merlin" that the Captainused to "beam" Dennis in! They even used one of the sounds from the game!

  • @stevenscottoddballz

I had one of those "Merlin" games. Boy, was I amused by the simplest things back then.

  • @Magicienne2005

Yeah, I even remembered the part of the commercial that made me want one! It was when the song said, "BlackJack 13"!

  • @stevenscottoddballz "Blackjack 13" sounds like a spy either from a Japanese manga or a cheap Italian Bond-ripoff.

  • @GoblinXXX

Heh. It does, but for the configuration of the game on Merlin, it was easier to get [or get CLOSE to] 13 rather than the traditional 21.

  • @Magicienne2005 i have one too I bought it for $20 at an antique store still in box and still had the booklet works great!

  • @Magicienne2005

I have known a bunch of kids who have had "Merlin" games. It is my understanding that they were a lot of fun!

  • Back then, that computer was super high tech!! :)

  • WAKE UP AUSTRALIA AND ASIA.

Time to make stuff for us and we will give you some more paper.

Never mind all our Resources that we are hoarding in Alaska.

Why you ask? So when you are out we will be the only ones with it left.

    Mr. Moose says HI btw.

  • Instant transportation using Mexican slurs!?

  • @wagdawgwag Beamer is what they said...not a slur.

  • James Wall class act. Watching this 70's clip, I had no idea Paul Rueben's borrowed so much material from the Capt's show as fodder for his satirical take on early morning children's shows. The clip also harkens back to days of good pensions, reasonably priced health benefits, good wages, good jobs, and a profound lack of political punditry. Todays morose cartoons and kid's shows are clearly a sign of the times. Thanks for the memories Mr. Wall.

  • Captain Kangaroo's neighbor 'Mr. Baxter' on …

NEW YORK – James Wall, Captain Kangaroo's neighbor "Mr. Baxter" on the children's show and longtime stage manager for CBS News, has died. He was 92. CBS News says Wall died Wednesday in New York City after a short illness.

The former vaudevillian joined the popular children's show in 1962 as a stage manager before persuading the show's producers to create its first black character in 1968. until 1978.

  • I heard Mr. Green Jeans was gay. Well, that's what I heard.

  • i heard it was ted nugent

  • NO KIDDING Theres a rumor that Alice Cooper's dad was Mr. Green Jeans! Lookit up.

  • @MrMeh181 He's not his dad nor is he Frank Zappa's dad.

  • Thought about Mr. Green Jeans just off the top of my head today. Looked it up and there he was...WOW takes me way back!

  • Where is the talking clock?

  • They had a contest on the radio in which the caller had to call in and guess whether or not the title was an actual name of a porn. The name "Captain Bangaroo and Mr. Creamjeans." I about crashed my car.

  • It's a good thing Dennis wasn't on the pot when he transported by George!

  • "Open the Beamer doors please, George."

    "I'm sorry, Captain. I'm afraid I can't do that."

  • This is all to far out.I give Mr.Frank Zappa right in his opinion about that ! lol. Imao i say !!

  • I used to love Cpt. Kangaroo show. Good memories.

  • Wow old Memories man,.
