  • Whyis it corporations are considered individuals when it comes to taxes, trade laws and campaign contributions but they are suddenly back to being businesses again when faced with their products killing or injuring someone?

  • @RichAdams21 Cause they are fucking businesses you dumb shit they have to take responsiblitiy for thier business actions. in fact it protects the people behind the boards of the company because its cooperate dollars being spent, they keep their salaries. Cooperations are not people u stupid fuck!!!!!

  • @360Bars Speaking of being a stupid fuck, if you had read my post, you'd see I agree with you. With people like you on our side, we're doomed. Pull your head out of your ass!

  • Finally, the people, who own over 50% of our money can control 100% of our lives... The way it should be.

  • HAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHA

  • not now murray not now murray NOT NOW MURRAAAAYYYY!!!

  • I wish I could marry a corporation.

  • "We hold these truths to be self-evident: That all [people] are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights...to secure these rights, governments are instituted among [people], deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; and, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the RIGHT of the people to ALTER or to ABOLISH it." -July 4, 1776. The Declaration of Independence

  • I bet whoo689 is feeling pretty stupid now after seeing corporations dump three BILLION dollars into a midterm election. Corporations bought and paid for all those teabaggers and radical right politicians that were anointed into Congress. Wait until next year when these morons take control of the house. They will be giving away the country to settle their debt.

  • You have my vote! I can't wait to see sound business practices brought to government. Once the big corporations are running our government, for a change, we'll have no more worries or problems...like jobs (send them overseas so we get 7 day weekends instead), honey-do lists (won't have houses to repair!), no more embarrassing colonoscopies (won't have medical care at all), mowing the lawn (acid rain will wipe it out), running all those errands (no money), no more diets (no safe food either) ....

  • FAIL. THESE DIPSHITS WILL NEVER WIN.

BUT I'M GOING TO WIN IN 2012 RUNNING AS A DEM IN CALIFORNIA. MUAHHAHAHAHA

    case closed

  • welcome to the United States of Walmart

  • I'm pretty sure the folks behind this satirical "campaign" are left-wingers who don't understand a damn thing about the CU decision, nor do they have any perspective regarding it. It was pretty funny to see a bunch of uneducated liberal twits get their panties all in a bunch over a fairly innocuous decision, all because corporations could speak and spend more. Buncha idiots. It's been, what, 5 months since the decision, and we have STILL yet to see actual corporate political ads?

  • @whoo689 Laws stay on the books basically forever and you're satisfied after only watching the issue for 6 months??

  • @whoo689 well Target and Best Buy were the first to blow it 7 months after SCOTUS ruling, much to Target's regret (IT is a person now, IT can regret its corporate campaign contribution):

    /watch?v=9FhMMmqzbD8

  • Obvoiusly this is satire. This is NOT a real corporation running, and no one should be fooled. Obviously the election authorities would NEVER allow a corporation to run in a federal election, esp. a Democratic FEC.

  • @whoo689 Believe me, if corporations were just CLAMMERING to do political ads, they'd have done so by now. The fact that they haven't shows that they don't believe it's an efficient use of money, even if they are wealthy. Corporations tend to be very sensitive about their money, and they're not gonna waste it advertising for or against specific legislation when the end result may not be in their favor. They can spend far less on lobbying that will actually get a better rate of return.

  • Hmm, so the supreme court granted corporations the same rights as a human being? Well then where is the personal accountability? Why are corporations allowed to have all of the perks of being a person (ie run for office or endorse a candidate and donate freely) and still able to get away with crime, murder etc... and never have to do more than pay a fine or settle out of court? WTF!?!?!

  • little bit of steriods good for you, too much of it kills you. This is the craziest plot for defrauding people. NO on Corps running the nation. No on Corps in congress

  • 1:01 illuminati symbol

  • Funny bit. Great stuff.

  • OMG, this is funny in a sick sad sort of way. Wait til they want the right to marry.

  • The first ten ammendments were added to the Constitution to protect the rights of individuals, especially from the undo power wielded by groups of individuals. It is unlikely that the 13 colonies would have ratified the Constitution without "The Bill of Rights."

Ironically, corporate status is used to protect the "group" of people who form the corporation from "individual" legal redress resulting from "corporate" actions.

  • How so?

  • Jonathan Swift might call it ...

    "A Modest Proposal"

  • If our Supreme Court in all its majesty and wisdom hadn't equated people with corporations and money with free speech this would be really funny.

In reality, this is very sad.

  • Certainly a "Corporate Entity" is the same as an "Individual Citizen." As and individual citizen, it is protected by the US Bill of Rights.

Furthermore, we should extend US Citizenship to multi-national conglomerates.

Contact your Senators and Representatives in Congress and tell them you support legislation that permits multi-national conglomerates to become US Citizens.

  • Tongue in cheek, but this shows EXACTLY the full implications of granting corporations the legal status of "persons," giving them free speech rights and everything else. Deny corporations those rights! They are not people! If the U.S. courts don't deny them that status, this WILL be the end result.

  • I hope conservatives are happy....facism is on the way! President Nike!

The Supreme Court claims the corporation is an individual....so.....we the people no longer have a voice.

  • @504pro

right, because conservatives and fascists are so similar

that's why they stand for big gov and strict regulation... oh wait

  • @rblofthescrdhrt

Idiot. Fascists embrace all kinds of economic ideals. It isn't as black and white as "Corporate regluation=Fascism, or Social Programs=Fascism." In fact, conservatives believe in strong nationalism, regulation of the personal lives of citizens by the federal government and act as if their aim is a one party state, all of which are components of Fascism. Keynesian Economics and Social Democracy are not synonymous with Fascism. Sorry.

  • @504pro Fascism has been here for awhile. This ruling just makes it that much more obvious.

  • This is hilarious.

  • Hey, MH! My two LLCs are listed as "Person 3" and Person 4" on our census form. Logical extension, let us be counted! Has MH done their census form?

  • One second, is this for real? I mean I got linked here from the Economist, but this can't be for real can it?

  • @pritzi101 This is 100% real. And awesome

  • Hey, if we can now vote for 'corporate personhoods', I'd like to vote for my favorite football team. Then maybe our political races could become sporting events. Screw the ballot box. Let's have our favorite candidates.Inc fight it out in a sports arena.

  • YTbobo4u,

Please tell me this is sarcasm...Jon Stewart couldn't put it any better!

  • Debb, I don't know how one can comment on the insanity of these times and not sound sarcastic. It seems, just when you thought reality couldn't be twisted any further, the nutters that run this place, will surprise you once again. If you live in America, there's a good chance you suffer from chronic cognitive dissonance (CCD). I know I do.

  • Unfortunately the corporation may be too young to vote automatically disqualifying it for Congress.

Too bad it's employees don't form a union and run it in the Democratic primary to oppose Murray Hill (who is attempting to run in the Republican primary)

  • My fantasy is that Murry Hill Inc files a civil rights suit and it goes all the way back to the supreme court. Now that's fun!!

  • If you go look at the website it looks like they are taking this joke way too far lol

  • So I guess it is ok to ship our jobs overseas for that low price. Are you guys going to ship our economy overseas for a low price too? Prevent new long term solutions instead of that Quarterly Gain. A lesson learned in Astronomy, "the brightest stars in the sky die young." May you take that lesson if you ever get elected to congress.

  • I say we start a civil rights movement "free the corporation!" I own stock which, since corporation are now people, means I own people. Last time I checked this was illegal in the US. Free the corporations should be MH's first campaign issue.

  • I'm pretty sure the founding fathers didn't intend for a profit making corporation to make runs for public offices.

  • @flanders4212

The Conservative majority on the Supreme Court disagrees.

  • To all those who say that this is not a "legal" campaign (ALA the Constitution). Well, sometimes politics is not always about winning but sometimes it is about sending a message to those in power that we are NOT happy with the status quo so take note! I think this is one of those campaigns.

  • If MurrayHill Inc does not get the right to be on the ballot, then there should be a write in campaign to vote them in anyway. What better way to send a message to ALL involved, if MurrayHill was to get more votes than either the Democratic and/or Republican candidates. Heck, if you don't like the candidates in your congressional district, vote for MurrayHill Inc. there too...see how many votes they get nationwide! This actually sounds like the most honest campaign I have ever heard of!

  • I hope you morons rot in hell. All that comfy cash in your coffins. Enjoy.

  • Brilliant!

  • This is satire at it's best! Wonderfully done, and yeah, sadly it's a joke for NOW, at least.

  • Actually, the saddest part is that it's NOT a joke. Not really.

  • This has got to be a joke.

  • This particular company's campaign is a joke, but the corporate rights that are being demonstrated are not a joke. Corporations can now run for office which this corporation is demonstrsting by officially (and legally) running for Congress.

  • Bet you guys'll be seeing those type of ads - serious and *for real*, not just as satire - within the next 20 years. Have fun!

  • Not possible for a corporation to run for congress. Certain requirements must be met. They must be a US citizen (a corporation is not a citizen US or otherwise and therefore not subject to rights provided by for a citizen). Requirements not met. Illegitimate candidate. Next question.

  • I'm nominating Northrop Grumman's massive postal sorting machine to run against you fools. The Postmaster for Countrywide will be campaign manager. Stay tuned for more video highlights.

  • Conservatives go after libs and progressives for their views and yet don't see anything wrong with FOX "News"-stunning. The Corporation Of the United States for which it stands will not let some jackass at the ballot box get in the way again, so help me God!

  • Ballot box? That's SO last century! Murray-Hill will surely do away with that little illusion after his (er, its) inauguration.

  • Yes i obviously agree. Eliminate the entire voting process altogether as it does seem to lead to such inconclusive results anyway. The Corporate suits know more then we do anyway so just let them take care of things for us. They really are "supehumans" anyway just look at they salaries they earn-see i told you.

  • Define jackass. It could be every single person in the United States. Therefore, our constitution is not for the people but for nobody, which makes it an illegal piece of legislation. Next question.

  • @lwblack64 Jackass could be either the voters or the person running for office, either way it is becoming much too ineffecient and the "suits" can't be bothered with such silly outdated customs.

  • Doesn't everybody know that corporations exist just to please us anyway? I know I've seen it in the commercials -- people holding hands and smiling while running through fields of flowers. I want that Amerkkka again ... that's why I'm voting for all candidates in the Corporate Party.

  • Don't get me wrong, I love this country. More for what it was then what it has become or becoming. As Gordon Gecko said "Greed is Good", yet try to run a nation with that philosphy and throw in an anything goes culture and look where it has gotten us.

  • @teltelamont it's not spreading misinformation, it's trying to drive home the point that corporate influence is incredibly corrosive and the biggest reason for most of the mess that we're in today.

And the people in these comments who don't notice the gallons of sarcasm flowing from this ad are straight up retarded.

  • So are you also going to say that UNION influence is incredibly corrosive and the biggest reason for most of the mess that we're in today? (GM, Chrylsyer, UAW, AIG, Fannie Mac, SEIU) ?

I assume not since Unions give to "progressives"---hence for you or "progressives," it won't be an issue

  • @teltelamont

    UAW total income for 2006 = $255M

    SEIU Operating Revenue for 2008 = $48M

    AIG Lobbying Expenditures for 2009 4Q = $19.3M

    AHIP lobbying expenditures for 2009 = $4.4M

    Wellpoint Profits for 2009 = $4.7B

Are you seeing the trend here? There is no way any union can compete, in lobbying dollars, with corporate lobbies under the Citizens' United ruling.

    Thanks for playing.

  • @teltelamont Yeah, 7% of the private sector is unionized - clearly all of the problems were facing can be tracked down to those pesky poors not being quite poor enough for the tastes of big business.

  • @teltelamont

Leave it to conservatives to not only turn "progress" into a dirty word, but to also blame the failing economy on the paltry 7% of the workforce that's unionized. You're right, it was all the fault of the poors for not just shutting up and being poor enough.

  • "(which won't allow this anyway---read for yourseld) "

Way to completely miss the joke, jackass.

  • This is actually brilliant.

  • To a moron everything is brilliant. To a caveman, even speech is brilliant. To an educated person, this is folly. I predict that this will awaken the voter and the Democratic Party will again win in 2012. WTG Repos. It backfired on you just like the Watergate intrusion backfired on Nixon. Nixon had the Presidency won but his paranoia lost it for him.

  • This is an AMERICAN (actual human) issue. Feb 2010 Wash Post-ABC poll showed over 80 percent from both parties were unhappy with the Supreme Court decision allowing unlimited spending by Corps and Unions. This is about sending a message we are unhappy..a legal idea or not. We are tired of the influence corps and unions have on BOTH parties. Both sides of the aisle take the money in from lobbyists. We want OUR (human) influence back!

  • @unclecp well said. SCOTUS literally ransacked the AMERICAN Constitution and handed the shreds to Corporations and Unions, WE (humans) be damned!

  • @Yankhadenough I agree with you, but I think that what the SCOTUS did was far worse. They not only ransacked the Constitution, they ran roughshod over the principle of court precedent. What they did was take the LOSING arguments from a decades old case and use these FAILED arguments as the BASIS FOR THEIR DECISION. It's absolutely against everything our law stands for. These guys should be kicked off the court.

  • We have designated humans driving our warbots, flying our botplanes, and ruling with our interbots, so why not just get it out in the open!

Great, great job of illustrating the fiction of the corporate person. Money talks loud enough, they don't need speech!

  • ROCK ON!

  • Funny how everyone complains endlessly but nobody will actually get off their ass and DO something.

  • Comment removed

  • troll

  • Makes the point! Great satire!

  • teltelamont, you're quite mistaken. See the Washington Post's March 13, 2010 article about Murray Hil Inc's candidacy for proof.

  • @FormerlyFlightsuit LMAO, you think the Washington Post is a legitimate "news" source?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...thats like saying you take the New York Times seriously, HAHAHAHA LOL...i must sit down for this one, AHAHAHAHA LMAO

  • The Washington Post isn't the only news outlet who's covered this. Yes, the video is humorous, yes, this is a prank, but that doesn't change the fact that they're very serious about taking this prank as far as they can go, and that includes actually attempting to get their "candidate" elected.

  • WTF? i need to get the hell out of here!

  • So say you were convicted of some crime in congress, who would get in trouble? Who would be accountable?

  • This is one genius mockery of the Supreme Court's ruling of corporations counting as people. Haha! :)

  • THE BOOK OF REVELATION UNFOLDING BEFORE OUR VERY EYES:

13:16 He also caused everyone (small and great, rich and poor, free and slave) to obtain a mark on their right hand or on their forehead. 13:17 Thus no one was allowed to buy or sell things unless he bore the mark of the beast that is, his name or his number [666].

THATS RIGHT PPL, HERE COME THE COMPUTER CHIP IMPLANTS-BECAUSE IF CORPS ARE LAWMAKERS, THEY WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN!

  • Brilliant!

  • When is Halliburton coming up for the death penalty?

  • Whats the right wing Supreme court going to do flip flop on their ruling? LOL!

  • I not only like it, I approve of it. A good CEO would clean up the House

and Senate. Long live the most Supreme Court!

  • Bill Murray inc. has my vote!

  • Whoa. That's awesome. I wish I could buy some democracy.

  • We already have a corporate party (GOP) in congress!

  • Actually both parties. Check the FEC (Federal Election Commission Filings) for both parties candidates and you will see that they both accept corporate money for their campaigns (with just a few exceptions). Corps are smart enough to donate to both Democratic and Republican candidates, often in the same political race, so they never lose.

  • I'd like to vote for Murray Hill, Incorporated, for Prez, but we have to wait 35 years. Dang Constitution!

  • Calm down everyone, they're just trollin' Washington because of that silly Supreme Court ruling.

  • UNBELIVEABLE!! The first thing that comes to mind is something I heard Peter Sellers say in a movie once, Imbeciles! Imbeciles! Imbeciles! Imbeciles! Imbeciles! Imbeciles! ...............Imbeciles!

  • About time some one cut out the pesky middleman (voter) in the democratic process.

  • the facist state only wants to keep themselves alive financially, if they establish a corporate state, facist state, than you will make america truly an economic power house, to rival chinas fast growing GDP

ours is barely 1 percent I believe, which is considered "alot"

  • Democracy in the U.S. is officially over. It had some democratic qualities alive, but this is the end of the line. Corporate Fascism 2012

  • It's a great idea. If we take out the middle men politicians and elect corporations directly, it will save tons of lobbying money that the corporations can use to hire more workers.

  • This could make the government fantastically economical. There would rarely be lapses in getting things done. However, this is actually pretty freaking scary at the same time. Not that this hasn't happened already, but foreign corporations would bring their own agendas in eventually owning every squared inch of the country. Maybe it's not even so bad, but imagine one day, the Feds come in saying you have to leave, so a new "whatever" can be built, because incorporated Congress voted on it?

  • This is brilliant. This spits on the face of those who say that corporations don't run this country. Hey Conservatives, what you got to say now?

  • How can you not tell that this isn't serious? It's a great idea to put the spotlight on a pretty serious flaw in how the supreme court has interpreted the constitution and our nations laws

  • is this a fucking joke?

  • I'm...confused. Are they mocking our *slightly* corrupt congress or are they serious? Or are they trying to get a message across?

  • I don't like the way this is going, just my opinion.

  • do i hear a hint of sarcasm in this whole thing????

  • get your corporate asses out of the government, this is supposed to be a democracy, just because you have more money than the rest of the population doesn't mean you should have more rights. how can you look at yourself. American government is some of the most corrupt in entire history. Corporations have been running the government for atleast 20 years now its just that now they are doing it openely

  • You guys in the US are in deep deep shit.

  • I want to see this aired all over the country.Stunning.

  • I agree, this is brilliant (and so very well done). So when is a designated human going to show up on the Daily Show and/or Colbert?

  • This is brilliant. I agree, people are now number 2 at best in our system so might as well have representation for the number 1 most important entities who have been unfairly underrepresented for centuries thanks to Thomas Jefferson. This is the 3/5 Compromise of the 21st century to give corporations some representation!

  • The real irony here is that they are mocking using politics to forward a company's agenda, while they use politics to forward their business.

The owner's statement: "This really wasn't part of a marketing plan for ourselves," Hensal said. "It's an opportunity to see this court opinion play out to its logical conclusion."

What a load of crap that is. The firm BTW, represents politicians and lobbyists. Guess they have no motivation. . .

  • @sparrowia2009 You've got it!

"WE THE PEOPLE" are screwed and then some. These politicians should have to wear their corporate logos so we know who their representing you know like the NASCAR Drivers do. THANK YOU SUPREME COURT YOU JUST SCREWED OVER WE THE PEOPLE!

  • Go Murray Hill. I hope you have your own vacation home in the Cayman Islands, so that you can shelter all those tax dollars.

  • This is brilliant!

    5 stars, fav'd and featured

  • It's already been sold to China!

  • designated person.

  • We aren't a democracy. Any time I hear someone say it, it tells me the are clueless.

  • i think this is the most awesome thing i have seen in a long time XD

  • qft:

"Under the Supreme Court's decision, a corporation wholly owned by the Chinese Government could spend as much money as it wants in support of any politician in America. The fact that so many of the comments did not realize that this is not a joke but a satire on the Supreme Court's appalling decision is scary. Get it through your heads - the Supremem Court just offered to sell the USA to the highest bidder, and this video is pointing that out. It's a great video and a public service."

  • Welcome to the Corporate States of America where we no longer elect politicans anymore. Corporations just buy them like any other commodity.

  • bitches! look at your name: Murray Hill Incorporated; it says it all....!!!....bitches!!!

  • the two systems we depend on the most Democracy and Capitalism are dependent on good quality information.

In recent times, we've seen the amount of information increase and the quality decrease. We should not be surprised that both of these institutions are starting to fail.

The next question is, how does a normal, average person insulate him/herself from this?

  • It's no f'n joke ... corporations run the USA, Inc.

  • is this a joke

  • Under the Supreme Court's decision, a corporation wholly owned by the Chinese Government could spend as much money as it wants in support of any politician in America. The fact that so many of the comments did not realize that this is not a joke but a satire on the Supreme Court's appalling decision is scary. Get it through your heads - the Supremem Court just offered to sell the USA to the highest bidder, and this video is pointing that out. It's a great video and a public service.

  • This is a hideously bad idea. special interest groups like oil, coal, gas tobacco has already run this country and the environment into the ground...if this is allowed to stand then clean energy options will be jeopardized. this needs to be fought and fast!

  • Enlightened supreme court . . . ?

Citing Fox News for credibility ??

Enlightened self interest ... For ReALL??

    Be proud America...

  • Great sense of humor ! Great point !

  • Eric Hensal is running for Congress. Should it be illegal for Eric Hensal to run for Congress based solely upon his association with other fellow citizens? Just because that association is named Murray Hill Inc? How the fuck can these people not understand this simple concept? Murray Hill Inc is not running for Congress, Eric Hensal is.

  • they're the same thing...

  • This company is exploiting a court ruling and yes, what they are doing is legal and real... and yes none of you can change it (not like anyone is trying)...

  • We are so fucked.

  • every time this ad is shown, It will help the democrats and republicans

  • The best government money can buy? Hell, I've been cheated!

  • is that real or only a "joke" for the government ?? :O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O

  • Fuck off you corporate scumbags, democracy's for sale? WTF? Once again you sellouts are putting money before people

  • You don't get the joke, do you?

  • I'm voting for Walmart!

  • Is this real?

It looks like a very funny joke, but reading the comments makes me think maybe it is serious lol.

  • I've heard corps cant' get married or vote...yet

Personally, I say if you cannot die, you cannot apply for personhood. So that makes these corporate "persons" VAMPIRES.

    great vid 5*s!

  • "Can't get married" - what's a merger, then?

  • People apparently assume corporations are all rich; that's certainly not the case. Many corporations are born into poverty and it goes downhill from there. Corporate poverty is the root of corporate crime-it's getting worse and worse, something must be done about this grinding poverty and alienation in the boardrooms of America.

The problem has gone on so long. Corporations have been spun off, acquired and disposed of so many times they've lost their indigenous identity. Broken families.

  • @ToddBoyle

I think corporations have evolved into organized looting and parasitic evil...Corp. person hood needs to be abolished

  • "Chain-Gangs" for the Board of Directors, is the solution. Corporate penal servitude with hard labour for Corporate malfeasance.

  • @WarzSchoolchild

YES! YES ! YES !YES!YES! Enslavement is a fitting punishment for those that wish to enslave us

  • This is just disgusting.

    WTF America!

    For real?

  • A corporation is an exemplary creation because it is the incorporation of an actual fictional person. Lawyers explain, a corporation is a legal fiction.

So corporations are an actual fictional person of superhuman character, which lives forever, and has realized his cultural heritage as a corporation. Every corporation has a divine form, is one with all other corporations. and sometimes they reveal their divine form, like Lord Krishna on the battlefield- Bhagavad Gita.

  • Got jokes, Todd?

    LMAO!

  • "It is not my intention to doubt that the doctrine of the Illuminati and the principles of Jacobinism had not spread in the United States. On the contrary, no one is more satisfied of this fact than I am."---George Washington - 1798

  • "It is not my intention to doubt that the doctrine of the Illuminati and the principles of Jacobinism had not spread in the United States. On the contrary, no one is more satisfied of this fact than I am."

  • "We know in the not too distant future, a half dozen corporations are going to control the media.

We took this step (merger) to ensure we were one of them"--Time Warner spokesperson.

  • hahaha.

    this is great.

    theres congressmen senators lobbyist

    lobbyist..lobbyistlobbyist, lobbyist and lobbyist.

but now were behind the wheel.

  • THANKS FOR POSTING

  • Sadly, after the Supreme Court has rendered voting basically obsolete, we're not far off from this happening for real. Instead of voting for the Republicans or Democrats and whatnot, the parties will be stuff like: ConAgra vs. Johnson and Johnson vs. the new political coalition of Big Oil.

Great video though. Very funny, but as I've already mentioned, it also predicts the future.

  • For all the folks who obviously don't keep up with what's going on in our country, this video is a satirical response to a Supreme Court ruling that corporations are legal "persons" and thus have all the legal rights of humans. This, logically, would include running for Congress. The court just gave our democracy to the corporations, allowing them to spend unlimited amounts to influence elections. That's for real!
