  • I always scratch my scalp. I don't think I'll ever be able to stop but I've been noticing lately that I have some abrasions from doing it.

  • Girl, u hv d most beautiful natural black hair I've seen so far on youtube! Seriously, I will do anything to hv my hair look like urs. Look at all that hair. Also, u're a natural beauty. You are my shero, lol. I've been tryna go natural but I couldn't do it cos my hair is so kinky. I remember when I was lil, hair dressers don't like to mess with my hair n I cry a lot cos my scalp is so sensitive.

  • im so jealous

  • Okay...it looked like a rubberband in this video, as you were having so much trouble removing it.

  • Hola!I'm a medical student in Jamaica.I have the hair goal 2011 for waist length hair just like you do so I'll have it in time for graduation..Is your hair 4a,4b like mine?.Do you use henna?Or shea butter?

  • nice video. question were did u get ur septum ring. i cant find any small ones like urs. is urs a 14g or smaller?

  • did u use something to change the texture of your hair

  • Lol there are two girls who have hair just like you at my school...now I know their secret mwahahahaha!

  • Did you always have long hair like that? Its beautiful by the way.

  • Why is African hair so difficult and prone to breakage?

  • @captmicha imo naturally curly/kinky/coily hair or hair associated with African descendants is not 'difficult'. it requires a different kind of care and maintenance to other hair textures. because of all the loops and kinks the hair strands make it is prone to tangles and the natural oil from the scalp does not travel down the length of the hair as easily as with straight hair. so it's important for people with this texture to moisturize and implement appropriate hair care techniques for growth

  • YOUR HAIR IS SPECTACULAR FOR ANY kind of hair!!! WOW, I never get tired of seeing the thickness, length and beauty of your hair!

  • wow you have some pretty hair :o)

  • Do you actually now see natural hair oil in your scalp? years before i relaxed (teens) i saw natural hair oil in between my scalp. But after years of relaxing that has gone! just started to transition only 8 wks post so ages to go! but just wanted to know if yours came back ? and wondering if that natural oil produced on our own scalp before relaxers will ever come back!

  • @winiver77

yes, I do see the oil in my scalp. It does come back.

  • do you apply hair oil to your scalp or do you think it is a better idea to massage the scalp to produce more oil on the scalp.

  • @vintagemoth

the scalp would produce oil whether you massaged it or not, but I do like scalp massages simply because it feel nice :)

I initially apply oil to the scalp because i dont want it to flake after blowdrying

  • I know this is a hair video but you have the most beautiful skin. Anyways, I scratch my scalp too but I just like how it feels haha.

  • @claudeval

sigh...you should see my skin now lol. Ty though

  • you are so beautiful(not talking just the hair) and i think the nose ring just personalized your look LOL

  • Hey, you can't argue with success! That's what i always say. Observe the results. Looks like everything she does is working quite well for her, don't you agree? In the warmer months, I find I don't have to do this as frequently. But it's very stimulating when done properly (not too agressively). ;D

  • Beutiful hair

  • I've been natural for longer than15 years and my hair is longer and very thick like yours, I haven't straighten it in about 5 years, I usually wear wigs and put my hair in two braids, I'm really trying to achieve a longer length similiar to yours when I stretch my hair out it comes to like 20inches but my shrinkage is super short. How can I grow my hair long like yours?

  • @niaZomba

your length is close to my length so you dont need help growing the hair, yours just has more shrinkage than mine.

  • I finally got what you were explaining the 2nd time around. When we scratch our scalps like you've instructed, we're not only stimulating the scalp but exfoliating skin. I don't know why it just clicked with me. I can be a little slow at times. LoL!

I'll add this to my monthly routine. Thanks girlie!

  • Phenomenal hair!! Wow, that'll be me in a few years time....cannot wait! Thanks for sharing ;-)

  • doesn't that damage your scalp, though?

  • It depends on how you do it. Does it damage your skin when you scratch it? Depends on how you do it.

The goal is to place firm pressure and sweep upwards, not a horizontal scrub which can cause bleeding.

  • I'd just like to say that you have such beautyfull hair. It's amazing really, I love seeing black people growing their hair long, it's proof that if you really want it, you can have it. Thank's for sharing!

  • I love your videos..very informative for ladies trying to grow their hair out...Im at the 2 year 7 month mark with growing out my hair and its about as half as long as yours so Im right on track...I just did my first natural hair video..I would love your feedback...

  • do u think the scratchin has aided in growth?

  • how long have you been growin your hair out? DId u ever have a perm? love your nose ring by the way..blessings!!

  • omg I really want that stimulate

  • is ur hair naturally black ??? what texture is ur hair it looks so soft??

  • My hair is actually brown, my video cam quality is not good enough to capture it though :)

  • Protein is fine for the hair but you must moisturize. This has been confirmed by a professional stylist btw.

  • I just wanted to say thank you for this videoI used to scratch my scalp years ago but I stopped because a beutician told me this only causes more dandruff. She said dandruff buildup is a way for your scalp to protect itself from trauma(scratching). However, for me I think it's a better solution than dandruff shampoos. You have to wash your hair too often, and they stink.I've found that scratching my scalp allows me to wear my twists longer without my scalp itching. My scalp thanks you :o)

  • nah ur beautician probably meant sebum build up is to protect it from dryness. But there's nothing protective about dandruff its a bacteria but flakes in general aren't too bad so just scratching like she does with a comb is okay but with your nails is what causes the trama because u can't really know how deep youre going verses a comb only going so deep. hope that helped

  • hi, are you scratching product build-up or dandruff?..I never had a dry scalp and earlier i scratched my scalp and it flaked..im wondering if this is proctuct because this was right after I co-washed .Does anyone know?

  • After 1 month of not washing, it's both.

It could be both for you as well because you may not be washing your hair good enough to get the scalp clean. Remeber, that dandruff is a complete later of dead skin on your scalp. Rubbing the tips of your fingers over it, even with poo isn't always that effective. Make sure the next time you co wash you rinse until the water is clear and no bubbles are present in the water so that you can know why your sclp is dry next time. Gl

  • thanks.

  • do you message your scalp alot and if you do does it help

  • I do massage my scalp, but that's aside from the scratching, not equal to it. I don't know if it helps, but it feels good lol.

  • messaging the scalp does help your hair grow faster by 3%.

  • wooooooooo!! I assumed so, but wasn't sure. This is great info ty.

  • I think your hair is very pretty and I wanted to know how long it took for you to grow your hair that long and what was your started point?

  • Khristle2009: She posted a video of her hair journey. Check out her previous videos. I can't remember off of the top of my head.

  • This brings back memories of my mother scratching my scalp as a kid to allow my scalp to breathe. Thanks for this video.

  • Thanks for the tips. I'm priming my hair to wash now. xD!

  • Wow you have no broken hair! I am natural too and my hair is all dif lengths. I never wanted to beleive my hair was breaking off that much but seeing you I know it is.

  • I actually have a place in the back that looks CUT. I believe when I was getting my hair cut that the stylist pulled something sneaky OR my hair was just badly damaged in styliing my hair (the head stylist matter my hair and blowed it for 3 hours STRAIGHT to detangle).

I am still recovering from that and some hair that never curled back up!!! I will make a vid about that salon one day.....

but don't be disouraged. Trim very slowly over time and eventually your hair will be healthy :)

  • when i was younger i used to scratch my grandma's scalp all the time. and she would always fall asleep. lol

  • @njyac81 Such a pleasant memory...

  • yes, i could use a good scalp scratching right now! anyone available??? lol

  • AMAZING hair.

  • Thanks for taking the time out to post this. Very helpful!

  • Thanks so much for taking time out to make these videos so frequently :) its a big help to me and very appreciated.!

    beautiful hair as always :)

  • Aww, you are most welcome. I truly appreciate comments like these!

It's a nice break from "WHAT DID YOU USE" "WHAT DID YOU DO" I'M NOT GOING TO WATCH ALL OF YOUR VIDS BUT TELL ME NOW!" lmao

    enjoy your week!

  • LOL... I can only imagine how many people ask you what did you use ha ha

hope you have a good week as well

    love the videos :)

  • i love your hair! i wish mine was that long! idk its crazy & doesnt want to grow! lol

  • I'm sure your hair does grow..be patient and gentle and your hair should start showing improvment in the first month,

    be well

  • We used to do that when we were kids. It feels good!

  • Sorry I didnt watch all your vids, but is this how your hair is naturally when not braided or did you blow it out to look a bit straighter? It looks nice, none the less, lovely hair!

  • My mom used to do this now that I remember. Great vid. I may get back into doing this again.

  • I'm not sure if I was understanding you or not. After you scratch your scalp you braid your hair then wash and condition it? Or you don't braid it all??

  • In a previous video she mentioned braiding her hair in four sections for washing to decrease tangling. I use this method also. Hope that helps.

  • MY mother use to do something similar to my sisters and me when we were young. Right before a washing she would part are hair and run a brush over our scalps and through our hair to simulate the scalp, remove dead skin cells, and to detangle and get rid of old dead shedding hair that will cause tangling when wet.

  • i do that also. for me it also helps with not having to do to many shampoo washes.

  • I do the same thing but because my mom use to do this when I was younger before washing my hair.

  • my mom use to do this to me and my sister before every wash.

  • It might be a good idea to do a pre poo with conditioner, that can help to keep your hair soft and tangle free. i usual leave it in for about 20 mins

  • ur hair is gorgeous!!!!

  • Girl don't be ashamed of the flakes. My hair is sorta like that too. My hair is best when I barely wash it and keep it from being dry. That's all my hair like and it won't break and most of all it will grow. It doesn't make you dirty or anything. You figured what works for "your" hair. Thanks for sharing.

  • lol, i'm not ashamed of flaking. I think my scalp at 4 weeks looks more moisturized than some at 1 week. This method have saved my life when it comes to time and efficiency.

Ty so much for commenting and watching <3

  • I'm sure you get this question often but how long have you been natural & do you press or blow dry your hair to get it the texture it is in this video?

  • maybe you should check out her other videos ... she has addressed all of the questions alot ...

  • thank you :)

  • I'm not sure how long she's been natural...but she does have a hair journey vid...

&& yes she blow dry & flat iron right after she washes her hair..(which is once a month...and she has a vid on that 2)

  • She answers all those questions in some of her other vids. I think it's the FAQ's vid. Check them out when you get a chance. They're very informative!

  • :) ty maam

  • hmm.. this method will not irrate your scalp at all?

  • @bpt80ct It doesn't for me. It feels really good, like a deep massage. Kind of like exfoliation for your scalp. :)

  • this is ole school hair stylin'....I remem when my mom used to scratch my scalp befor washing my hair and my former hairstylist use to do the same thing...sometimes the old ways still work

  • mzztam-the old ways will always work. Just like healthy eating and healthy hair care will grew your hair back then so will it now. we as americans are so caught up in hair products it's inane. we forget the simple things that grow your hair. A lot of these products are worthless anyway. and don't get me started with the koreans, they are pimping black women, as far as money goes. giving the money to them instead of reading a book and keeping that money within our community. I love LHDC2011.

  • Ty for the demostration. I always feel I cant get my scalp clean enough when washing. I will try this to see if that helps :).

  • anytime...remember to start off gently. I was a lil heavy handed one time and ouch!

    take care

  • hey that's a good idea do you think it help with your hair growth?

  • @spareld

It should as long as you're not rough with it. It might stimulate the scalp as well as help to loosen the dirt necessary to get rid of scalp sebum when washing. Massaging the scalp with your fingers is good too (there are some on the market).
