  • These shelters are fun.. used to do it as a kid

  • great vid and next time i make one imma listen to TheTobyKing

  • heres a tip i like to use: before hollowing out, take some stick/twigs, and snap them into pieces about 10 inches long (desired wall thickness). Stick the sticks straight into the pile from the top and all the sides. When you hollow out and hit the end of the stick, you know the wall thickness is perfect. and, upon removing the sticks, you have some air holes, to keep oxygen levels in your shelter steady.

  • put on the snow.

  • @dudelamp1 roflmfao bears hibernate all winter. Though it is good to make sure you're not near where a bear is hibernating, you NEVER want to wake up a sleeping bear, or be around when one does get woken up.

That's a major problem with abandoned buildings where I am, kids like to explore them and bears like to sleep in them.

Waking up a hibernating bear will cause you to be severely attacked as well as more than likely causing the bear to die from waking up so early and being unable to find f

  • to gauge the thickness of the walls just take sticks ( if available ) that are as long as you want the walls to be thick and push them into the undug quinzhee. whilst digging the quinzhee out you will eventually reach the end of the sticks on the inside, thus enabling you to judge the thickness of the walls. do not forget to have the resting area raised above the entrance trench to enable the cold air to travel downwards and away from you. nice vid. peace.

  • You could have saved a lot of time and just laid on the ground and threw snow on yourself....

  • Great video! One thing: finishing your shelter well before dark will make it easier to gauge the thickness of the walls as you dig: the light shows through. But I guess filming it made you finish late. Also, putting the doorway lower than the sleeping surface (or building a tunnel with a hump in it) will keep the bed area warmer. Very practical guide!

  • just what i wanted to know!! CHEERS

  • GREAT Practical and efficient Review - Thanks!! What is the shovel called? How can I get one? Thanks!

  • ahhhhh a lazymans igloo, good for temporary shelter

  • 0:53 - 0:55 Thats what she said!

  • @GoMGaming lol

  • Wat in the fuck is a quinzhee???

  • @usthepeople5591 what he just made..... duh smh

  • good job man i love that plastic shovel i need wanna those

  • if you're making a snow dome, and then dig an entrance, how everything above the entrance doesn't come down?

  • @ShakedXsin you're retarded, where are you from? South Carolina? lol

  • @worganyos im not even from USA or Europe

  • @ShakedXsin it's one of those physics things. Think of an arch. It's hard to explain, but domes and arches are kinda self supporting, so to speak.

  • @Forsure3333 to see how deep the wall is

  • It was just a way to demonstrate that if you did puncture the side of the walls that it is easy to patch.

  • I don't get the point at 2:55. Why making that small hole and cover it up after?

  • Thank you for correctly calling it a quinzhee instead of an igloo.

  • guy kinda sounds like and looks like Jason Lee

  • you are all just jealous

  • It could be just me, being an asshole, but that seems like a good way to waste valuable time. But the shelter looked great.

  • nicee!

  • MAKE THE PILE TALLER THAN YOU! (Make the entrance tall

  • you dont want to make the entrance really big because you will lose a lot of heat

  • oh shut up!! I fitted mine with central heating and a fantastic entertainment room!

  • @TheWjl1234 actually you just need to pull some snow in to block it off for the night.. like big blocks of snow. Then you move them to go gather in the morning.

  • @BubbyFilmsINC Good idea if you want to stand up once in a while.

  • And where do you get hot drinks from in the middle of a snow drift??

I find it pointless that they're building a snow shelter to keep them out of the hazards that takes so long to build! U spend most of ur time waiting around for the snow to settle!! Why don't they just dig a hole and have sex for warmth......

  • ohh fuck youuuu

  • What happens if the snow only settles for 19 mintues? Does this mean the snow shelter won't work???

  • Because in the middle of a snow drift this is all possible!! Let's let the snow settle for 20minutes.... but we'll be buried in 5!!!!

Avalanche coming down the hill!! Let's quickly buid a snow shelter to protect ourselves! What a great idea! now lets wait 20 minutes for the snow to settle before we build!! WTF!!! AVALANCHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • mybe one got hungery while sleeping and wanted a litle snack

  • wow if it does get it on tape!

  • I pack down using my hands

  • what happens if a bear comes lol

  • Human Hot Pocket.

  • Mr bear would probably kick them out and keep the shelter for himself.

  • i do believe they hibernate in the winter

  • @Dudelamp1 You give him a bear hug.

  • @Dudelamp1 You HTFU and eat him!

  • @Dudelamp1 shovel TO THE FACE

  • @Dudelamp1 the bears are sleeping ;)

  • @Dudelamp1 Run like a bitch....

  • @Dudelamp1 its winter...bears are hibernating

  • for show only, they would be lucky to fit 3 people in that thing SITTING UP! 6 laying down is just lies...

  • I Built One Just Like It In My Front Yard and its about as big

  • Lucas, great video, however, here is some friendly advice;

    a) an easier way to make sure the quinzhee remains at an even thickness, jam a couple dozen sticks, each 1 ft long into the quinzhee from the outside. These act as simle guides.

    b) Do not pound the snowpile with your shovel. Natural solidifying happens in the same amount of time, so it is not strengthening the shelter. In fact, when you slap the snow with your shovel, you are driving out the insulative air. Keep the air in it.

  • Fantastic up-load!

Sharing it with my "Snow-camping son, David!

    Have fun!

    Nancy

  • great night sleep??? Liar!!!!!!!! lol

  • why is this not called an "igloo"?

  • because it isnt an igloo. I igloos are made in a different manner and are usually bigger.

  • bcos its made a different way using a pile of snow left to harden and not snow blocks :)

  • IM NOT GONNA BUY YOUR BOOK; HAHA jokes on u

  • whoa where do you buy those shovels theres this remote place in canada i go to every summer where theres huge amounts of snow and its ALWAYS cold

  • lol, you can make a shovel yourself using the things you can find in forests and an axe in under a minute.

  • Yes

  • Aren't you the director who only works while wearing ice skates?

  • Isn't this the dude who was struck by lightning and fell like 800 feet on Mount Raineer?
