  • anyone else noticed Drew's lisp when he said Caiaphas.......???

  • this Annus is aweomseeee

  • Do you have "this Jesus Must die" from this production? I really like the Ciaphas and Annas in this and would love to see it!

  • @thestar13 it's the beginning of JCS Amstetten 3/12

  • does the guy with the 'strange' voice (annas i think?) have tape on his nipples D:?

  • @TimKoopman10 I'm playing Annas in a production next week, so when a mate forwarded this Annas S&M version i was pissing myself laughing! Why the heeeell does he have a fan throughout ?? :P Aggressive fan-waving if ever I saw ;') x

  • Is there a video of this entire production anywhere?

  • i'm in love.

  • HOLY SHIT: Annas=Ultra Tenor

  • I think he simply means that falsetto is all Drew Sarich can do, because his real range would break the Earth in half. It's just so unreal that it doesn't SOUND like it's human falsetto. Drew's falsetto is Pavarotti's belt.

  • I love how Annus has that little fan xD

And Drew Sarich does one of the best performances of Judas I've seen. He's so charismatic!

  • Drew is really great but im not too impressed by the high priests.

  • Please, please, please tell me where I can find a whole video recording of this

  • Whoever disliked this is a Communist. Fact.

  • Annas kicks ass in this production! Loving the high notes and campness!!!

  • Ha, the hats they're wearing are similar to the ones the Greek Orthodox priests wear:

    \havelshouseofhistory.c o m/Demetrios, Archbishop and Primate of North America.jpg

  • Gotta love Caiaphas' eyeroll at 0:28 XD

  • Where can I find a copy of this video recording? It's amazing, and the rest hasn't been uploaded to youtube yet

  • ... Annas... is played by a woman??? That cannot be a guy?? What?? Also Caiphas in this im not too impressed with really :/. Although the Judas is so ridiculously good!!

  • @hoooooobz It's a small guy singing falsetto. XD

  • @agentgingerale Seriously?? That is.. actually unreal. Nothing about him sounds like a man!

  • @TimKoopman10 It's in the middle of Europe... I answered just in case, but I really hope you're joking...

  • @AngelinHell888 Thanks for your lovely opinion. No I didn't know... In my language it's very different as in english...

  • Apparently to maintain their authority, they must flip their capes. It's like a power-up.

  • he is good but not as good as carl was in the 70s

  • This is GOOD! Love it!

  • I literally watch this video at least once a day.

  • I don't quite know the story, although I've seen the movie version of this, and I haven't read the Bible, so I have a question- I know that's Judas but are those other men Romans? I thought they were, but their costumes are throwing me off.

  • @raspberryicedtea No, the others are Jewish high priests, Annas and Caiaphas. They weren't fans Jesus.

  • @CountvonAge Oh, okay. Thanks for the info!

  • wow this is nothing compared to the version of 1973 but still not bad!

  • Okay, why does Annas have a fan? Hahaa it just seems awkward. But...Drew is freaking amazing as always<3

  • Yea. Drew Sarich is absolutely amazing. One of the best stage performers you'll see in your whole life.

  • @PotO2004Phantom

He delivers ! I just saw a version that would have Carl Anderson spinning in his grave.

  • God Bless his Soul. Not even religious =P but Anderson was great. Which version?

  • @PotO2004Phantom

a very amateurish Dutch / German version. Suffice it to say it was OFF OFF Broadway. Maybe some prep school. Carl Anderson AND Ben Vereen were great in the role.

  • lol When I went to highschool, we did both the Phantom (in my junior year, I was fortunate to get lead as the Phantom, but I'm not greatly amazing, this was back in 2004 when the movie came out), and we did JCS (freshman year, I played Simon Zealotes for 2 nights and Peter for one, switching with the other Peter). Ours was decent, I wish I had footage of myself then =P I was decent then. Our Judas was actually very good, I can't recall a name though

  • @PotO2004Phantom

Our High School didn't even have a theater group, most of the productions would've been postponed until the actors / players made bail for possession of weed !!

I've seen some good non - professional productions like Godspell at our college theater. I want to see Les Mis some time. I've only seen a few scenes.

  • They did Godspell in my Sophomore year, but I got called up to Varsity soccer and decided not to do both, then Junior year I did do both. But I would have loved to have been the John the Baptist/Judas character. :)

  • @PotO2004Phantom

That sounds like trying to juggle watermelons. I could never handle a play, soccer, etc., maybe when I was 10 - 15 years younger..... ;-) I dated this girl who was into College theater & it seemed to consume EVERY WAKING MOMENT of her life around then.

  • Mhmm. I wasn't into theatre in College. I attended St Joseph's University, I don't really know if they've done too much there, I was more into Soccer at that time. But I love the theatre, I wish I could go back to Highschool and do it again.

  • @PotO2004Phantom

If my Muse cooperates, & I start writing stories again, maybe I could get something turned into a script. My Muse goes on too many breaks !!!

  • Annas is a man, notice he doesnt wear a shirt, and he is a countertenor

  • @baseballfanmj Annas has tape over his/her nipples

  • muy chida la cancion

    me gusta mucho el tono

    de voz de drew sarich

  • SWIRLY CAPES OF DEATH!

...sorry, had to do it xD

I could drop a comment about how superspeciall awsome Drew is, but that's just being obvious.

  • Annas is defiently a woman...

  • Or just gay.

  • or a countertenor...

  • that is eric minsk, he also played renfield in graz

  • He Got skills, BRAVO!

  • Drew Sarich is GREAT!!!

I saw him as Rudolf in Vienna in May, he was simply fantastic!

  • I feel Annas acts too effeminately for the role of a high priest. Also, their voices often sound strained when attempting to reach those higher and lower register notes.

  • Sax kicks ass in this song.

  • The person playing Judas is the best singer here, I think. We don't really get to hear the others, but Judas is perfect (not in moral way, of course)

  • that's Drew Sarich as Judas...and he is FANTASTIC

  • @Nerd1138 That's Drew Sarich- he's pretty much the best part of any musical you ever see/hear him in.

(The entire point of Judas in this musical was to prove that he was trying to do the right thing...)

  • BAHAHAHA The Annas in this one makes me think of a Leprechaun!! Oh god.. Lmao.. Awesome, :)

  • The fan at 0:51 is cracking me up! My new favorite prop...

  • this Hannas can't get that high D xD, though it's a very very high note for a Tenor

  • i love this judas he has the best voice!!!! (ever)

  • I am loving Annas in this. I think Drew is a good but I recommend the original Judas, Murray Head from the 1970 recording. He is outstanding.

  • Murray is good , but....i think that the best judas ever is Carl Anderson. Carl has a powerfull voice and his feeling, also, is outstanding.

  • i like the acting not so much for the singing

  • man, Annas is like half gay/half intimidating at 2:24.

why does he have that fan, it makes him look gay.

  • In every version I have seen, Annas is a tenor, Caiaphas is a bass.

  • really? i'd label annas as a mezzo soprano, alto at lowest, and caiaphas as a superbass

  • lmao superbass :p

  • Caiaphas isn't that low.. :p

It's just a normal bass lol

    xD

  • this one is a Bariton. The original one is a "Deep bass" (at least those are the italian words translated). Very rare also on Opera.

  • You do realize that mezzo-soprano and contralto are womens' voices? That guy sounds more like a counter-tenor.

And there's no such thing as a "superbass". The guy in this clip isn't a bass anyway, he's a baritone.

  • anyway, i think its hilarious how they have annas and caiaphas have polar opposite voices in every show.

  • :) right. Annas here is a tenor rock voice, if you look for some Epic Metal groups you'll find some similar kind of voices...

  • judas' voice is weak.

  • hes amazing

  • awesomnessss x

  • Im one of the lucky ones who dont have to use falsetto to hit those notes....that makes me happy.....but Drew Sarich is AMAZING regardless!

  • I hope you don''t mean that Drew uses falsetto to hit high notes :)

  • NOOO i dont mean that! lol I know he doesnt. I was just saying that im lucky that I can hit those notes too and im happy I can. lol

yeah I phrased that last comment wrong. :P lol

  • @Silivren

    HA!

  • @Silivren definitely no falsetto..no Drew don't uses falsetto!!

  • oh my god me either.!!!..wait i'm a soprano...i shouln't have to.

  • @luvdrma09 I...

    Jealousy. ._.

  • @luvdrma09 How come we aint listening to you then and we're listening to drew instead??

  • the person with a fan is aboyyyyy :O:O:O thought it was a girll lol

  • Comment removed

  • i kind of agree... what's with that outfit??

  • someone's balls havn't dropped yet 1:45

  • LOL! Caiaphus usually sounds like that- I haven't yet heard a Caiaphus who doesn't sound like that.

  • thats annas but yeah idk why the creators thought that annas was a prepubescent girl

  • Annas' high voice was used to counteractr Caiphas' baritone.

  • doesn't change the fact that his balls havn't dropped yet

  • It's called Falsetto, mate...

  • Erm, not really. I can sing that high in falsetto :\

And yes, my balls have dropped, thank you.

  • ...Wow.

  • wow is right... :) ..........

  • love Caiaphas expression at 0:29

also, Drew is just amazing. I would love to see him as Luceni in Elisabeth, he would fit sooooo well!!! Or as Eljoras in LesMis...

Such an awesome actor and singer. One of my favourites!

  • IM IN LOVE WITH HIMMMMMMMMMM AGHHHHHH

  • lol thanks. never knew it was that country in english, however i always wondered how it's called :p

    anyway:

too bad of this production the judas is magnificent, even as the herod en pilate, but jesus sucks. xD

  • he is a good actor, not abad singer

  • You say he didn't care he was selling out his savior: that's cuz he didn't feel like he was selling him out..... he really did believe he was doing the right thing at the time. If you see this actor singing ' Judas' death' you'll find he' s a good actor.

  • allright i will go look at it

  • personally i think this guy is WAY too concerned about hitting the notes and sounding good rather than acting out the part and selling it... great singer. poor acting he looked like he didn't even care he was selling out his savior. kinda shallow dont yall think

  • He's a brilliant actor..

  • that annas is really epic. :) caiaphas, however, makes me kinda sad. Drew wins at life. enough said.

  • I agree , annas is great! he is played by eric minsk. I think that a voice like this is very rare. At first I did not like it, but now I can´t listen to it often enough. you should watch this video :

Dracula Das Musical - Das Lied vom Meister

Eric Minsk plays the role of Renfield and this song is interpretation of this song is fantastic!

btw: drew played dracula( not in this production from vienna, drew played in graz) awesome as always ;)

  • oi, sorry, drew played the dracula in st. gallen, not in graz. and reic minsk played in graz and not in vienna...mixed it all up ;)

  • well voice wise. he looks like what caiaphas should

  • so i see alot of people commenting on how good drew sarich (is that his name?) is and i was just curious as to why this is...this is not an insult against him cause he is talented but i just wanted to see some responses as to why everything thinks he is so good

  • I personally am a huge fan of Drew's voice, how it can go from rock and roll to legit musical theatre (sometimes within the same song). But the biggest thing I love about him is his commitment and his passion. He gives it 400 percent no matter what, and as an actor I appreciate that enormously. He gives tremendous thought to the preparation and he's always acting, always involved with the scene, and that's why I think he's incredible.

  • watching him sing judas death. then watch him sing a song from his recent stint in les miserable either as javert or valjean.

  • Are you kidding me? Do you hear him. He is great. His voice has such a clarity to it. Its amazing,. Its like he can do anythign he wants with it.

  • In my opinion, Carl Anderson is a phenomenal singer and sings the parts of Judas extremely well. Jerome Pradon on the other hand, is a brilliant actor and fits in the role of Judas well. However I personally find Anderson's acting a bit weak, and although I think Pradon has an amazing voice, I also think that his voice doesn't fit with the role. Drew however, is a perfect actor and his voice just fits the role amazingly. That at least is why I think he is the best Judas of all time =)

  • who is playing Annas?

  • Where can I buy this version!?!!@ I've been looking everywhere!@#

  • It's an underground production, so you won't really be able to find it anywhere else than here on YouTube unless you meet someone who happen to have a copy of it.

  • Carl Anderson is still the best!

Drew is also good, but not as good as Carl!

  • This is honestly one of the most amazing Judases I've ever seen.

  • Please dont take any offense, but since when is the role oe Annas very...girly? lol

  • It's probably how they wanted to cast it.

  • Since always, dude.

  • Watch the two movies, especially the one from 1973. Annas always has a really high, kind of girly voice.

  • Its true that they like to cast deep and high voices for those two roles and I like that they do that. However they may have went a little overboard with the little fan and seashells over his nipples lol.

  • who plays ciaphais??

  • could you upload the song "Jesus must die" please?

  • Oh, please, send some of this to me! I've been dying to add the audio of this to my JCS collection!

  • i dont like his improv...

he ruins the best vocal bits of this song

  • is Annas played by a boy or a girl?

  • He's a man. His name (I believe) is Eric Minsk.

  • Oh really Eric Minsk? I like him ^^

  • intresting tune variation I really like it he's got a great voice

  • Oh my god shut up both annas and Judas have amazing voices that are so rare and hard to find, listen to the notes they can hit! Also drew is acting maybe you should look at the manurisms he is using! He's trying to convince them not to kill jesus what more could he do!?!

  • This Annas sounds a little like a woman if you ask me, bt that's just my opinion no offence meant.

  • Saxophone solo ROX!!!

This Judas seems much more determined and a little more heartless than Jerome's Judas...but the dude has a great voice!

  • I love it how at 1:44, those two priests look at each other like, OMG! Let him stop bitching please. So brilliant ^_^

Btw, I love the actor/performer who plays Annas. He has a very specific voice, that adds more character to his part.

  • If anyone wants any of this.. I have all of this show to send. AUDIO only and I also have the one from Vienna. Where he plays Jesus.

(And of course I won't make you pay! That' rude!:) )

  • id really like the whole thing =]

me and my friend got into this show and i love this version

if u could get me the audio id love you for ever thx=]

  • OOOO me too please! Is it well recorded? I would be really thankful if you could pass it to me.

    THanks in advance :)

  • Gladly! It's much faster than the Les Miz ones...

  • I don't know what you're passing, but holy crap this Judas is friggin awesome and I want a piece of that XD

  • Same.

  • OMG I LOVE IT!

  • this is one of my favorite songs now

  • the weird thing is the dancing in this is pretty simple but he makes the whole thing look so complicated and amazing

  • He is the best Judas I have ever seen and heard!

  • Pure genius....

  • judas' voice is flawless, but too smooth for this part. man the band is rockin'!

  • I really like playing Annas as effeminate and the actor's head voice is fantastic. Much stronger than in most cases. And I've got to say, I usually can't stand Drew Sarich, but he does very well in this show in general.

  • Why do I like the chase coreography so much? XD

Also am I the only one who now sees Annas as a comedic villian sidekick? (and a gay one at that XD)

Though at 2:31 he looks kinda like a vulture, so he's cool XD

  • Why/What is the significance of Annas having a fan?

  • Were doin at the moment and in our rehersals our annas keeps laughing and he has been threatened with a fan!!Maybe this is the reason?!?!

  • i guess to show off his wealth? back then rich people used fans

  • friggin Drew Sarich. so effortless! i just played judas in a community theater company, and holy crap. if i sounded anything close to what he did, i'm very very proud.

  • I run Drew's Message Board, and I wanted to let you JCS fans know that I just got a call from Europe informing me that Drew will be playing Jesus again this year on March 20th, 2008 in Vienna's yearly concert.

  • why is it that most of the Judas's end up playing Jesus?! XD

  • Drew played Jesus loooong before he played Judas, when he was 16. He was chosen while he was still in high school for a local rep theatre production JCS. He played Judas in college and has played both roles several times.

  • Drew is my hero. I think Annas is brilliant here though XD! haha sheer brilliance.

  • He seems to focused on showing what a good singer he is (and he IS) than to reflect the real feelings Judas should be feeling in this situations. He misses completely the character

  • I disagree but you are entitled to your opinion.

I think Drew does both amazingly.

  • I disagree. He plays it differently than others, true--but that doesn't mean he's not acting. Just watch his face in literally every moment on stage; he's emoting like crazy. Drew plays Judas as a very strong, opinionated man. Even when he's being intimidated, he somehow gives off the feeling that if he didn't believe wholeheartedly in what he was doing, he wouldn't have allowed the others to push him into anything--while still making Judas seem a victim. The mark of a brilliant actor.

  • ciaphas is so flat !!

  • Why you worried about ciaphas being fat. Check out the acting and the sing. I think he did good.

  • He sid flat. As in, can't sing for shite. It's good that he's fat.

  • He is flat. The guy who played Caiaphas was the only one I liked in the new movie version, just because he has that incredible bass rumble.

This guy is not fat though, he's just barrel chested like a lot of basses. Look at his forearms, they're not chunky!

  • Yeah the new Caiaphas was incredible. AWesome voice and look.

  • flat, not fat! lol

  • Soory i got the spelling wrong. :^)

  • lol i got a laugh out of it. so why r u a "brodway newbie?"

  • It's a title i made up.

  • Drew Sarich does such a BRILLIANT job here, keeping the pace up while getting all the emotion across about the character so easily.

  • Caiaphas sucks royally, both in his voice and acting.

Annas is incredible though! sounds just like a woman.

  • He didn't hold the end long enough, and I never have like the more recent change of Caiaphas skipping over Annas when he says, 'a fee, a fee, a fee nothing more."

I'd rather have Annas interjecting with "a fee?" with the inflection almost a question to Caiaphas.

Although his timing may be slightly off and he is not deep enough, I applaud his efforts. He has a great costume and the overall performance was superb.

  • ...is Annas a chick?

  • Nope, he's played by Eric Minsk.
