I heard this particular track at my very first, Dr Who convention which was called Cybercon in Manchester in 1986. I liked the way this track was used to accompony clips of cybermen which were shown from the existing cyberstories and this track was really quite eerie in sound. I am pleased to hear it again, I liked the way this track was used to show the clips of Cybermen and it was good fun in every way.
Never knew who this song was about until a while back, even if I actually watched old Dr.Who re-runs on tv and enjoyed them
I've noticed that people usually associate a fictional character with the first actor who they saw playing him.For this reason Pierce Brosnan is the definitive James Bond for teens, because they first saw the Bond movies as kids.Well Brosnan was never Bond to me.
Nonetheless Tom Baker WAS Dr.Who for me and I didn't even know there had been others before him playing the part.
I Love this track and it's A side 'Boys and Girls'. Although these tracks were both written by Phil Oakey and Adrian Wright and produced by Martin Rushent-this track still has that characteristic Ware/ Marsh sound to it. This may be down to the fact that Oakey had kept some of the backing tapes that Ware and Marsh had produced before their departure from the group. Probably a smart move on Oakey's part, as he and Wright both had to learn to play synths.
Philip Adrain Wright. What a sound you made... God bless you. They League never knew what they had in you. Oakey was so wrapped up in the girls he missed the point.
P.S. Thanks for those immaculate slides and the best 7"/12"/E.P. and album artwork from that whole period. Truly ground-breaking art!
I was just thinking the same thing, that's how I found this video, which is cool too, but Boys and Girls should be up here as it's one of their best and yet also one of their most underrated songs.
Problem is, can I be bothered to make a video for it ...
McCoy was better than Colin Baker. Hell, even any of the apocryphal (Peter Cushing, Richard Hurdnall) or even spoof Doctors (Rowan Atkinson, Richard E. Grant et al) were better than Colin Baker.
@mabakiel666 Totally disagree with you. Colin Baker was an excellent actor who hammed it up as the Doctor and wore an absurd costume because that's what the producers forced him to do. Considering that, he played the part with as much dignity as could possibly be mustered.
@mabakiel666 I heard this tune at my first Dr Who convention Cybercon in Manchester, and it was the event to celebrate twenty years since the Cybermen first appeared in Dr Who as enemies for Dr Who to fight against. The clips that were shown were ace, in billions of ways and the event was fun in billions of ways too.
BEST DOCTOR EVER...IMHO!!(: I love me some HL aswell.
