So stay tuned on touscoprod.ca :)
on a subject you so obviously don't know anything about. Some might say it's because of his young age, but I'm the same age than him, and I've known that for a few years now. The movie might turn out good - his first two movies were masterpieces, but he's obviously not ready to talk about it - and he should talk to transwomen instead of talking to their ex-girlfriends.
This is borderline transphobic ! I mean... If you're going to make a movie about a woman who is in the process of transitioning, you should at least know that you NEVER refer to her as a man. Because she never was one to begin with. So she doesn't DECIDE that she's "becoming" a woman, she is just correcting a biological mistake. I don't understand how you can be a member of the queer community and still be so ignorant, or why you would choose to make a movie on a subject you are so obviously
@vladetic3 this isn't perfect (i'm not French.. or English), there are a couple of bits where I can't hear exactly what he says but here you go:
1.The producer of my next film, Lise Lafontaine (?), had the idea of teaming up with touscoprod ... In fact, to inscribe them into the structure of my film, to help us raise some funds for the shoot and to involve people in a direct way in the process.
@vladetic3 1.First of all, start by thanking the people who have already invested in the film, who have supported the project, I'm really touched and surprised. It's always surprising to see people who you don't know but who support you, who believe in you or at least in the project. I'm really very touched, and stimulated too. And to the future investors, um...
@vladetic3 I find it interesting because normally, that process, both creatively and financially, is done in quite a solitary way, and it's afterwards that you share it with people. But it's strange to establish contact with them before the film even exists, I'm not used to that... it's very rich, very stimulating, to know that people already believe in the film, before they can even see images or clips of it.
@vladetic3@8etoiles Normally it's the last stage – before people have see the film, we've already seen it 50 times, you're sick of it, we just want to send it out off into life, into the universe, into theatres, into cinemas, to let people appreciate it... you want to touch individuals, that's the point of a film, to contact people, you want to move them, only here it's the people who contact us before we've even... it's really something (?)
@vladetic3 It goes back to the first day of shooting of J'ai tue ma mere, my first feature. And in the car, a woman who was travelling with us, who was working on the shoot for the first three days, told us a story really quickly, a love story she'd been through. She told us, 'one day I was in a restaurant with my boyfriend and he told me he was going to become a woman'.
@vladetic3 She didn't elaborate much about the situation but obviously that struck me, I said to myself, well there's a meal that didn't turn out as expected, and that night I went home and I wrote thirty pages. Afterwards I left the project sleeping, if you like, waiting, during the shoot for J'ai tue ma mere, that I took up the writing again in the summer, and it was interrupted again for the shoot for Les Amours imaginaires but then...
@vladetic3 1.in short, it's was around two and half years that I was writing Laurence Anyways and that's how the film started.
2.Laurence Anyways, my third film, tells the story of a man who in the 90s – in fact, in 1999, celebrates his 30th birthday in a restaurant with his girlfriend, and he announces to her that after the Christmas holidays he's going to become a woman and asks her to accompany him on his transition, this metamorphosis, that she accepts that he does it, basically.
@vladetic3 .And during ten years we follow the evolution, or rather the collapse, if you like, the degeneration of the couple who try to save their love, to save themselves, but who don't manage.
2.Pressure... I was asked that question a lot, actually, about Les Amours imaginaires, being the second film. I think there's always pressure, it's not necessarily a pressure which is connected to the fact that J'ai tue ma mere or Les Amours imaginaires were successful.
@vladetic3 It's just the pressure to keep improving, it's a pressure I put upon myself, it's not necessarily felt outside of my, either by the public or the media, I want to make a better film, a film that's better than Les Amours imaginaires or J'ai tue ma mere. It's the pressure to better myself, really.
