Wow, i never noticed the change in their style until now...the old Hybrid IS better...but i also like the new ones too, a bit simpler, and easier to take in. I just hope their old style isnt completely abandoned because overall i like all their songs.

Ech, Hybrid is headed in a backwards direction. These guys were progressive gods with I Choose Noise/WA/Morning Sci-Fi. Now they're back to conventional song structures and sound like everyone else.
Charlotte James is a good singer but she will be the death of Hybrid... back when Healings and Truman only had guest vocalists they at least had a few songs to do their thing instrumentally. Now a permanent singer is taking the spotlight from Hybrid's beats, which is what made them who they were.
@ryanDV87 I quite agree, i miss their instrumentals, , without a voice coming to just ruin it. I never liked Julee Cuise for example, her voice was just terrible and ruined good Wide Angel songs, it just drove me nuts everytime she'd sing.
At least Wide Angle had good beats/instrumentals, even on vocal tracks. This is just completely devoid of them. The whole backing track just sounds like rock with a synth/electronics or even, god forbid, pop. It's been done before.
@ryanDV87 Hybrid are extremely talented artists who wished to broaden their sonic palette. I really don't understand why people such as yourself can't accept that, you hold on to the belief that musicians should never change because you are comfortable with a trend. Artists deserve to create what they wish and they don't deserve to have ignorant people complaining every time they change styles and mix things up. Define a good beat....you can't it's only your opinion. *cue vengeful reply*

However it is almost an objective statement to say that this bears great similarity to any other ordinary song. If you don't believe me listen to SomaFM's Lush station and the female vocalists with their trite lyrics and cookie cutter 4/4 beats. THAT's a trend. I've never heard anyone like old Hybrid.

@ryanDV87 I beg to disagree, there are a LOT of tunes with vocals out there but I've had Disappear here album play on my car for about 14 months on a row!!! i never thought that would be possible with ANY album, not even one from hybrid, least to say one with vocals (I generaly hate sung music).
Plus they're not working with James forever, this was yet another one of their projects like all the albums before. each had it's unique new asset.

@Herne72 When you are good at something, why screw it up just for the sake of doing something new? I can't stand it when artists make great music, then just up and decide to switch genres for a new album..to challenge themselves. If anything, hold onto your core expertise.
@Shift4g the way i see it, they're merely expanding their horizon with variety...Disappear Here plays a lot on their past experiences, while certain tracks like Break My Soul and Disappear Here introduce a more freeform structure...
aside from that, there will always be more tracks to come, including the forthcoming Blind Side EP with new remixes
