  • "THE 9/11" I love how he puts "the" in front of it

  • 10% is more than enough

  • Americans are mentally challenged

  • Waiters in America rely on tips because their wages are so low, people should allow for this and not be tight arses, same with taxi drivers in England,I'll give you a scenario you pick up a bloke and a woman from town, going to destinations close to each other, the first stop is the fella the meter is on £12 fella gives the Lady a £20 to cover the fare, last stop the meter is on £15 the Lady takes out her purse and counts out exactly £15 in coins smiles and gets out, unbelievable.

  • love karl

  • did he leave english money in an american restaurant?

  • @tomitstube no. he left the equivalent

  • 60p for a steak dinner. hahaha that was probably less than a 5% tip. For all non-Americans, 15% is the standard amount. A lot of people typically tip more than that. For bad service I tip 10%. hahaha fucking 5%.

  • @pierceroe13 Aren't waiters paid wages in America like in all other places?

  • @Bulhakas They're typically paid wages much less than minimum wage. Like minimum wage in my state is $7.25 an hour, but my waitress friend gets paid $2.50 an hour because she makes tips. On a good day she can be making roughly $10 an hour with tips.

  • @IamIronLaura I see. In that case American waiters should be breaking up stuff and demanding fairer wages. It's their owners, uh... bosses' duty to pay fairly, don't you think? Customers are already paying for their meals.

  • I've never heard anyone refer to it as "The 9/11". He must be remembering it wrong.

  • @kc6201 I've heard people call it just "9/11" but not with the "The"

  • Is he talking about Bahamas or Barbados? Barbados is not close to america at all :P

  • Karl Pilkington on Top Gear would be amazing. I'd just love to see Jeremy Clarkson interact with him.

  • I find most Americans from the east and west coasts to be warm, friendly and generally delightful people. Central America is where you get the narrow-minded religious nutjobs.

  • @Osafune2 Central America is, to Americans, the countries of Mexico, Panama, Honduras, etc. The "Central" part of America you're refering to we consider the "Mid-West". But, the religious nutjobs which are in the Bible Belt, which is in essence the South East.

  • @Osafune2 Not to mention the deep south and more up north is where you get the complete racists.

  • hahah "a whole nation there, reduced"

  • Brilliant!

  • I'm ashamed to live in England, but it'd cost a small fortune if I wanted to move stateside :(

  • @Tilaron You're ashamed?? Wtf for?

  • @N64isgreat Are you serious? Do you live under a rock??

  • @Tilaron Explain.

  • People tip in the US because wait staffs make less than $3/hr.

  • im engish and ive never ever had any problem with my teeth thank you very much.

  • "Sigh"

  • I heard that they don't tip in England before, but I think the flipside to that is (at least in other European countries) they charge you for everything. They will charge you for packets of ketchup at McDonald's. Probably if you wanted extra napkins too. No free water. No complimentry bread or chips/crisps or anything like that over there is there?

  • @DrDeathpwnsu That's not true at all. I came back from London and they don't charge you for napkins and ketchup. The tip is usually included in the bill. It's more confusing in France. There IS complimentary bread and chips. I don't know where you heard that, but it's absolutely not true.

  • @ferretyluv Oh ok thank you. That is extremely helpful let me write that down.

  • @DrDeathpwnsu You're wrong, you don't pay extra for anything.

  • Worst American accent ever.

  • @skjaybe "Heeey, bud-dee, I'm speakin' in an ac-cent that is beyond 'er reach of hearin!"

  • Karl's American accent is unrecognizable. Sounds as close to Australian as American.

  • Are you really gonna give us shit about the death of 3000 of our citizens. Seriously fuck you.

  • @YNot1989 2,740 actually, a VERY small portion

  • @YNot1989 u mad bro?

  • You'd think that someone would have told him, before he went to America, that American waitstaff makes something like half of minimum wage, hence the expected tips.

  • @mrbill1032 Yea, even worse when you factor in tips to taxes you're lucky to keep half your pay in actual wages. Tipping is pretty much all your pay

  • America's pretty cool. Of course I really have nothing to compare it to, considering I've only been to three states, other than the one I live in... California, Washington and Idaho. And I live in Oregon. Sad, isn't it?

  • @VivaSaysHi Yeah it is. Shit, at least go visit Canada. It's just a day's drive, you could easily make a weekend trip to Vancouver.

  • just watche the vid JHEEEZZZEEEE, and everyone stop goin on wikipedia to make themselves sound smart

  • Haha spot on. We are always like, "The nine-elevens."

  • Brits have those cool accents and horrible teeth, Americans have good teeth and horrible accents...Isn't that a cruel twist of fate?

  • @akitaj2000 The whole horrible teeth thing is bullshit. People just look at the royals and their kin (who are all slightly inbred) and presume we all have fucked up teeth.

  • @akitaj2000 I'm from England and my teeth are fine, we have free healthcare here because we matter.

  • as a swede and therefore neutral in the matter i can inform you all that both americans and the english are quite ignorant compared to the rest of the world with the difference that the americans are at least aware of it. the english are loud and rude and have apparently not realized their days as a superpower ended a long, long time ago.

  • @resandelantis Wow, you were obviously fucked by a British rapist as a child, what a stupid stream of shit to come out with.

  • @resandelantis Im English and i can see your point. Scandinavia is the most advance part of the world and it fascinates people in England but i wouldn't say we are an ignorant country. We have the best, most honest news Broadcaster in the world (BBC) and incredible culture of music, film and tv. America have some great music and film but their media is just completely diabolic and is run by complete idiots. Sweden may be very advanced but what great music, film or comedy has come from it? NONE.

  • @mcnultyfrank One word...ABBA

  • @mcnultyfrank Think you need to speak Sweidsh in order to know about their comedy, or lack thereof.

  • @resandelantis Most English people aren't loud at all. Did you met some chavs on holiday?

  • @resandelantis fuck you man what's Sweden done except make meatballs really, England fucking colonized half of the globe! We (England) know we used to be arseholes and we no we were wrong back in the day but we sure as fuck don't care what any Swedish people have to say about us. Ps America is shit.

  • @resandelantis British people are pretty quiet compared to Americans. We are cultured and are aware of the world around us. To be honest probably more than most Swedes. Wherever you go you'll be likely to find a Brit. We have a long interesting history. Some English people are rude. I'm sure some Swedish people are rude too. Happens everywhere. Generalising an entire country and race is rather stupid.

I'm not too fussed by your arguments seeing as you are quite unaware of capitals letters.

  • as a american that has been to london i can honestly say the only difference is the money and the accents.. for as many idiots that live in america the same amount reside in london. (great brittain right?) exscuse my ignorance.

  • @DiegoTheJackal i don't think thats ignorant really, wherever you go there are idiots or people of lower level intelligence and stuff, the majority of which troll on youtube :D (that wasn't aimed at you)

  • Jesus I've created some carnage on here haven't I? Let me explain, there were many, many comments saying "America/Britain invented the internet" and the subject had got very repetitive and boring. What I did to breath some new life into the comments section was reverse the entities hence "the internet invented America". It was supposed to be humorous but it appears I severely misfired. Doh.

  • @GamingCrazy100 Hell yeah you are, and you look like a huge ass if you dont tip them.

  • Karl kind of has a jersey accent going on there...

  • its not 9/11 - its 11/9 !!!

  • This is actually one I do not like. Which is weird, because I like Karl.

  • americans are stupid !

  • @jemmaS31S And you are clearly an insightful genius. Thank you for your input.

  • @MrClickity buiocas le dia ! pog mo hon! slan :P

  • @jemmaS31S You should thank Britain for sending over the best and brightest to start the party.

  • @MoonLitRaynE im irish so dont like england they stole our country !

    bastards!

  • Karl has a point (as crazy as it seems). I am American and I can't stand it sometimes. Karl, you should know that I don't think all British people are as narrow minded as you are. Please, do not feel bad for sounding like a xenophobe with the IQ of a cup of tea. I'm sure you're a nice fellow.

  • my favourite thing since moving to the UK is the no tipping.

  • @tedwilli9 You don't tip?

    You're an asshole.

  • @ELREndLondonRule why would i tip when it's not required of me? also, if i'm going to tip, i'm more likely to tip the cook -- not the waiter. the waiter didn't do shit.

  • @tedwilli9 The waiter had to put up with you.

  • This is from the XFM Show back in 2002.

  • his american accent sounds like Christipher Walken

  • What's this clip from? I've never heard it before.

  • Does anyone else think that Karl's fake American accent sounds like a fake Russian accent?

  • why does anybody care? im from england and the amount of chavs in school now is pathetic, england is becoming a shit hole because of teenagers smoking and being complete twats. im sure america has just as bad.

  • @GamingCrazy100 Take your rose-tinted glasses and bugger off.

  • @GamingCrazy100 hey not all teenagers are bad, I for one have never once mugged an old lady and I hate chavs and trackies and stuff, we don't fuck up england the government does

  • @GamingCrazy100

    not to mention canada

  • @GamingCrazy100 How on earth are teenagers making England a shithole by "smoking and being complete twats"? That's fucking retarded, it's their choice whether they smoke and how they act. The real reasons a country could become a more unpleasant place to live are people like you who think stupid bollocks about it like that. Why not be thankful that you're not living in Syria right now?

  • @GlewGamer well i have more thumbs up on my comment because im fucking correct! Oh im so thankful im not living in Syria. STFU you little prick.

  • @GamingCrazy100 LOL wooow, 14 people agree! You could start your own political movement with those numbers! Go for it mate, ban all teenagers who you don't like from going to school, because they do something that's their choice! Good luck mate, I'll even vote for you to give you a helping hand!

  • are you actually meant to tip your waiter? this would piss me off and i would never do it, they are getting paid in the first place and i couldn't give a shit about tipping them, its not fucking hard to bring my food to me

  • @GamingCrazy100 because they're underpaid and they don't just "bring your food to you"?

calm yoself it might just be a culture thing

  • @SuperGriko well that's their fault the are stupid to get that job, it's not my fault that they are underpaid so why should i be paying them

  • @GamingCrazy100 Yeah, it's not hard for a bartender to serve me a drink that I could have easily gotten myself but you're still a d-bag for not tipping.

  • @garethdwright91

    What does that mean?

    "The Internet invented America"

  • @garethdwright91

    FAIL.

  • @garethdwright91 Karl? Is that you?

  • @garethdwright91 That's the most stupid thing I have ever seen on YouTube...

  • ahh well it was an englishman who invented the computer...But my point is who cares guys? who actually cares who invented what, American and English inventors have invented differing things that have benefited the world as a whole.

  • That's so rude!!!!! But definitely an anomaly because I've always been shocked over how polite & sincere the Americans are - except the general ignorance about other counties but yeah I love America! And Florida's weather -3

  • Tipping less than a dollar is kind of an insult. You might as well not leave anything and he'd just forget about it.

  • test

  • why is it american tourists are so overly polite when on holiday, but cocksuckers when they get an army

  • I've learnt that if a fellow Englishman says they've been to America, I ask which part of Florida they went to.

  • @AnnatarYoung Not exactly true, Florida is definitely one of the most popular American destinations for us Brits, but we also like New York, Chicago, Las Vegas and various parts of California. We really are culture vultures lol.

  • @AnnatarYoung Ive been to America... South America (Peru, Argentina) and parts of North America (New York, Vermont, Atlanta, Arizona).

  • @AnnatarYoung I'm English and Florida is the last place in America i would go to followed by Los Angeles.

  • @AnnatarYoung We ask which part of London when the England is mentioned. As if that is the only place that exists over there.

  • @AnnatarYoung In my visit to America I went to 4 western States - I'd never set foot in Florida.

  • I'm american. Karls american accent sounds like a really bad borat lol

  • I think we all agree... the united kingdom is amazing.. and that said.. so is the united states of amercia

  • The waiter should have had his the money shoved his ass Karl you were right for bitching about it and dont reflect America over one young college aged idiot that is pissed he is working in a restaurant. I love America but many here feel like they are "ENTITLED" to everything but for no effort. The waiter had the mentality that just because he shows up for work that he should get top dollar for just being present at work. Nothing more than that. Karl your ok mate.

  • @rmstudio You're not understanding the American tipping system. In Europe (and some places in US) gratuity is calculated into the bill. It may be put into the price of the food or added as a percentage after. The 60 pence was an appraisal of his overall performance as a waiter. That's what you might give (if anything) if the waiter really messed everything up.(long wait, cold food, wrong food, inattentive, etc.)

  • @JakDerrida Haji your telling me what its like in America? I was born and raised in this country been all around the world in many countries. I know what Gratuity is and if it is or is not included in the meal. I love it some foreigner is telling me how it is in America. Karl was right and the waiter should have had the money taken from him after he complained about the tip.

  • @rmstudio Haji?? Not sure what that means. I'm American. I also have waited tables. While I would have chosen not to return the money, I don't find it completely unacceptable to return spare change, given the implications of it.

  • @JakDerrida Being "American and just moving to this country in the less than 5 years ago" are 2 entirely different things... As I can clearly tell you were not born here. As if you were you know what that word means. And if you had been born here and raised here you would know it "IS NOT" acceptable to have given it back. Your from a culture that feels that now they are "Self Entitled" to everything and why? because you never had to earn it in this country.

  • @rmstudio Actually, Philadelphia IS a part of the US. So I was definitely BORN HERE and the rest of what you say is also incoherent nonsense.

  • @JakDerrida Except the fact that if you gave back money like that were I am from you would most likely have it thrown at you onto the floor and then most likely fired soon enough when the regional manager thru you onto your next minimum wage job.

  • @rmstudio Waiters don't make minimum wage. They are exempt from minimum wage laws because they rely on tips. Obviously, you've never waited tables and live in a place where waiters are treated like trash and the school system is so broken that you frequently misuse quotation marks.

  • @JakDerrida Yes I will gladly say your are correct I never had to work a waiter job. LoL. And for good reason. So Mr Genius educated man hows that Waiter Trash job working out for. LMAOF

  • @rmstudio I am not a waiter. I was one while in college, like many people struggling for a better life but don't have rich parents. There are few jobs that can offer that. I now make over 6 figures a year, have good punctuation, and I only capitalize words when it's appropriate.

  • That waiter sounds like a real dickhead.

  • so many fucking idiots commenting holy shit

  • wtf?

We're all clinging onto a rock in the middle of a black void. nobody knows what wtf is going on, much less where the fuck we are. We'll all be dead soon anyway, nothing really matters, when are you morons gonna realize this?

Who gives a fuck about what country did what? Lets just get on with living this shite existance without making it any less tolerable than it already is. ffs

  • Comment removed

  • lol at the faggots below me

  • Karl Pilkinton is just a man of many words. Gotta love him <3

  • Nations aren't great; People are great.

  • That's such a good american accent...

  • i dunno why people always list inventions when comparing their country to another. you didn't invent any of those things, and you didn't choose to be born in your boring country that you're trying to talk up. patriotism is for dullards.

  • People, you need to remember this is a comedy. It is light hearted, don't take it so seriously!

  • Karl learned two things. 1: In Florida, if you don't tip enough at a restaurant, they make you take back your tip and give them a bigger one. 2: In Barbados, there are a lot of crabs on the beach.

  • Everyone calls it 9/11 here now as well.

  • Dont mean to jump on the bandwagon but what summarises the US for me in WWII is that they joined in 1941, countries like Australia joined in 1939. Whilst it is safe to say the Pacific islands were predominated by US forces, the European, African, and all other conflicts including D-Day landings will always remain a joint effort. It pisses me off when i play games/watch movies and D-Day landings shows only US forces on a map in the back ground - Australians, New Zealand and Canadians also landed.

  • @pj123456789123 New Zealand landed? What, the whole country?

  • Cant Americans take jokes? If someone makes a joke about the British we find it quite funny because we can relate to it and don't take things too serious, but Americans just instantly think they are being insulted.

  • @whey00 Wow. You have got that COMPLETELY backwards. Well done.

  • @S5ate99lit3e Is that why so much offence was taken over Ricky gervais a COMEDIAN telling JOKES at the golden globes? Don't be so retarded...

  • @bossmanali No, the only people who got offended by Gervais at the Golden Globes was the faggot CELEBRITIES who are so arrogant that they think their shit don't stink. The normal people viewing the show however thought Gervais was hysterical, including me. Those hollywood cunts do not represent the American people, rather the corruption that fame can bring. Your average american can and does laugh at jokes made at us because lets be honest, the whole damn world takes the piss at us.

  • Karl makes me proud to be American

  • WHY COMMENTS SO LONG?

  • Someone should explain to Karl that in America, waiters and waitresses make only their tips and a very small hourly wage (like 2 or 3 dollars an hour, something like that) in most places. You are expected to tip 15%; if the service was terrible then 10%. Great service or if you just like the person, 20 or even 25% is not out of the ordinary.

  • @jdepps13 That is really stupid, employers should be paying the wagers not the diners, they are already paying ridiculous prices for the meals :l

  • @jdepps13 You tip just 5% less if the service was *terrible*? Terrible? Terrible as in it was too busy at the restaurant or terrible as in the waiter didn't give a crap and/or was rude? If the waiter was being a dick, I don't tip. That'd be a total scam if the waiter could do whatever they wanted and keep getting 10-20% of everyone's bills. Tips are really meant to be for good service not for just showing up. If your cab driver got road rage and crashed into another car, you'd tip?

  • what the hell! turning down a tip. what a rood thing to do! if somone did that to me i would tape it to my boot and shove it up their ass!

  • @tsmcdougall The way things are structured for waiters and waitresses' employment in this country, they are paid very little and the tip is an expected part of their compensation. Absolute minimum for terrible service is still 10%. The amount Karl left was so little as to be insulting and well out of order, so the person gave it back to him as a way of telling him how unacceptable his behavior was in leaving so small a tip.

That's just how things work here.

  • And Secondably

  • LOL his american accent attempt

  • Was this exclusive to the TV show? I think I've heard every podcast and I don't recall this one.

  • This is supposed to be funny, yet all the comments are filled with hate. Why can't people just laugh?

  • at least were not pricky littlte jaffa cake eating british people

  • @MegaCheeseMilk Lol round here we call someone of you intelligence "severely retarded". The reason karl thinks some Americans are annoying is because of virgin keyboard warriors like yourself. 8==D <---You are a dick.

  • @laceythepoon You should be mature enough (it seems) that you understand what stereotyping is, & not assume that all Americans are represented by a very small percentage of tourists you get through your cafe, because you "have nothing else to base it on." I certainly wouldn't assume all Brits are like the idiots I run into online who berate Americans. Idiots are everywhere, fairly equally. So are nasty tourists.

  • @LisaJJMerry Fair enough, you've made a good point. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong.

  • That there The 9/11 was awful.

  • This vid is halarious:) But why is it offensive for a Englishmen to call it 9/11?

  • @ENGLISH3LITEWARRIOR Because we say the dates the other way around, so it would be 11/9

  • @ENGLISH3LITEWARRIOR Because we sort the date from smallest to largest; day/month/year e.g. 25/12/2011. So when British people say 9/11 they're just parrotting American media really. Or referring to something that happened on the 9th of November.

  • @JarCooler oh okay. But its not offemsive

  • That top rated comment is kinda missing the point here

  • karl's american accent. genius.

  • will never understand tipping u dont tip a doctor, bus driver, police man or check out girl, So why the fuck should I pay you for doing your job all they do is write down what you order and give it to you.

  • @sirbestnameever good point

  • I dont imagine you could rationally defend every inch of your culture either. All I am asking you to do is accept that there are some things that we do differently and when you visit us please keep that in mind. Am I being unreasonable here?

Have you ever heard the expression "when in Rome do as the Romans do"?

I am not asking you to take up tipping 20% in your own country.

  • All these arguments are ridiculous! Let me try and clear this up.

To non-Americans: If you think every American is an idiot, you're probably an idiot too.

To Americans: If you think there aren't any stereotypical idiot Americans, see above.

    Don't take everything so seriously!

  • Christ, just once can I watch a comedic video on Youtube without idiots making sweeping generalisations about entire nations.

  • @dibinism and yet you willfully clicked on a video called "Karl's Thoughts On Americans" ? What did you expect?

"I think americans, like all ethnic groups, cover a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds, education levels, and religious beliefs, and no pertinent information can be gleaned about a human being upon discovering that they are american!"

  • @dibinism Well firstly, the video is titled "Karl's Thoughts On Americans", so I'm not sure what you were expecting here. Secondly, the comedic genius of Karl Pilkington is that he genuinely doesn't understand the world. Thirdly, there are plenty of videos containing humour that doesn't play on stereotypes, or even address nationality at all. You're just being a whinger and making sweeping generalisations in the process, so unless you were being ironic, you're a twat.

  • @MalignantPrancer My twat is deeply offended by your comparison of her to that man! And she insists that he was being an over ambitious stiffy!

  • @MolecularMoonlight I've taken your twat's concerns into consideration but am, unfortunately, unable to retract the declaration. However, do feel free to refer to dibinism as a 'knob' in the presence of your twat to avoid any misunderstanding in the future.

  • @dibinism Isn't that a sweeping generalisation in itself??

  • @dibinism And you're looking for comedy? Yeah... probably not gonna happen.

  • @dibinism Even though it is Karl. Most of the people who talk shit about entire nations have never visited them to know how they really are...

  • @dibinism lmao, You do realise the title of this video is 'Karl's Thoughts On Americans' right?
