I always thought the red lights were for each microwave dish to line up with the other since it's such a narrow beam...Now actually communicating with a red light or laser is pretty cool...I'm more of an HF guy but I find sub-millimeter communications fascinating. Then again, I guess remote control IR transmitters aren't a whole lot different, just a whole lot weaker.
Red-light transmitters use a laser. It's really not microwave...Wavelength is around 680nm, far shorter than even millimeter-wave. It's quite a challenge because you have to design and build your own transmitter and receiver.
Hi im a New tech and i never heard of Red Light Microwave,is that another thing in ham radio you can do? if so this hobby is so awsome!!,there is so much to do :)
Curious is 24ghz General or Extra Class?
Im KB3SKU, passed the test March 6th got my callsign on March 12.
Hi KB3SKU, I found this on the ARRL band plan site. Everything above 6 meters is free to use as a tech, but not novice. Double check before operating. **All modes and licensees (except Novices) are authorized on the following bands: 24.0-24.25 GHz 47.0-47.2 GHz 76-81.0 GHz 122.25-123 GHz 134-141 GHz 241.0-250.0 GHz All above 275 GHz * US amateurs must check Sections 97.301, 97.303, 97.305 and 97.307 for sharing requirements before operating.** There you go! KF7AOL 73!

I guess you don't need a license at all to work on 76THz or whatever freq red light is!
