  • Doesn't have Jack on my man Kempff but still she did n amazing job

  • 25 people have the like button mixed up.

Love this version, it's better then the one on CD i've got.

  • Absolutely beautiful version of this wonderful piece. Hats off Valentina! :)

  • fantastic

  • I downloaded a version of this piece, and every full moon I hear it, and you know, This is the version I have! =) She's simply amazing...

  • великолепно

  • This song strikes a chord deep within my being. Something I haven't ever hit before. Every time I finish playing this, I start to shiver and laugh. It's a euphoric madness that this piece projects.

  • Am I the only one here who knows this sonata as "Quasi una fantasia"?

  • Just plain beautiful.....

  • how can you NOT like this song? i mean this is just so beatiful...

  • @MrPsychoJunkie piece*

  • Even after the video was over I couldn't move. I just sat there and tried to comprehend the grace and talent that I had just witnessed.

  • LOVELY!!!!!!!!!!!! :,)

  • you make my heart go *DOKI DOKI*haha ur amazing! i jus got this peice..so...yea

  • Passion from the right hand, control from the left.

  • Lordy, she's boring.

  • oh yeah i have a recording of this piece too. check it out!

  • amazing performance by Valentina. again.

  • Beethoven knows well how to yank your heart and kill it,

    and what remains is a void, and only such music can fill it;

From pain and delight, this shall make your insides feel so weak,

you know you're mighty sad, but you still enjoy your state so bleak.

  • @Andresm092 : movement......

  • @Universal161616 oh thanks : )

  • That was beautiful... Breathtaking, really

  • Excuse me for my question but I was wondering... what does Mov 1 mean? movie 1?

  • @Andresm092 I am not sure, I think it might be movement...

  • @NotAloneMEnJesus thank you so much.

  • omg... this is pure magic... just love it

  • who is the person behind the mic kind of weeping??

  • @david2k6murphy maybe she is asthmatic

  • i tought myself this when i was 9 or 10 it was weird and ive never taken lessons i just played it by ear people say im a prodegy but there are people way better than i am

  • I loooove this song, and specially this interpretation. The rythm and the dynamics are unique and wonderfull.

In my opinion, this is a very hard piano piece, not because the technique, but because the interpretation.

Here in youtube I've only watched 2 great interpretations of this song.

The one from Valentina Lisitsa, and this one: /watch?v=vl5sdGfZnB8

  • Someone as beautiful as you, proves the existance of God...

  • @jmgpi That's what I said to Richard Dawkins.

  • you are amazing...

  • @FrancoSan1000 she played for the Seoul philharmonic retard. doubt she's fake.

  • Enchanting, indeed. What a superb artist!

  • sencillamente maravilloso majestuosidad pura q tranquilidad la q se alcanza a el escuchar esta hermosa melodia

  • I learned this about a year ago, I'm 14. :)

  • @hippygooful Big difference between learning and mastering like Valentina here playing it, truly mastered

  • @brydon10 I'm so agree with you!... @hippygooful Besides, she plays the piano since she was 4 o 5 years old... So... You'd think better before writing!

  • Just great, let us have more

  • music joins countries and languages @aveclau @The StormFinder, @lucero777gilispie :)

  • after having seen this I've understood what classic musicians meant with "interpretation"!! amazing!

  • This is the greatest thing i have ever seen, if she needed a heart transplant, i wouldn't eve hesitate...

  • love the reflection of her hands

  • Increible :D me encanta

  • C'est comme si le piano l'avait mise au monde !

  • it's glamour don't find to say anything

  • Got to love the light touch!

  • the piano is out of tune

  • ignorant

  • God bless 1020p.

  • @ShazerThe 1080p D:

  • @cris90x haha, yes, THAT. :)

  • look there, a door is about to open (Resident evil reference xDDD)

  • Torn! tanxXXX :-)

  • what is the name of this lovely playing woman?????????? kiss from a girl from holland

  • @ansepans50 Her name is Valentina Lisitsa. She's an amazing pianist.

  • @ansepans50 ze heet Valentina Lisitsa

  • Jizz in my pants :O:O

  • she knows the passcode

  • se parece a la que toca victor en el cadaver de la novia!

  • the tempo is perfect. this is how fast the ripples in the water move.

  • I´m sooooo in love!

  • Its just a little to fast. she needs to play softer. I no expert. the dynamic's could use a little brush up to. Very minute mind you.

  • this girl kinda remind me jamey fox in "the soloist"

  • she's actually one of the best piano player in the world..she' absolutely fantastic

  • sorry, I misworded a little, ANYONE who plays music that passionately is beautiful and amazing in my book. haha

  • beautiful. the song, the piano.. simply beautiful. and any woman who plays music as passionately as she just did, is also beautiful in my book. well done :)

  • I think she has done a fine job, Classical music as written is cold, she plays it perfect, I bet she add several twangs on the piece when she is home and nobody around...

  • @ThaDudesAvlogger | @GreenBreakFree |

Somehow I agree with clanmac66, that she plays it comparitively cold and emotionless. That is not to say that there is no emotion in it, but not so much compared to e.g. the interpretations of Kempff or Horowitz.

Ofcourse, that is a subjective statement and has much to do with personal taste. But I agree with clanmac66.

She is technically near perfect, but has a lot to learn in interpretation. I bet she will play much differently when she's 60.

  • Calm down everyone. Clanmac66 knew that there was no feasible way to insult a musician of this level, so he descended lower than most people I've seen on youtube go. Do not stoop to his level. A better way to make him pay would be to listen to the music, stay peaceful, and remember, beyond all doubt, that he's an outright douche.

  • Beautiful piece of music , very well played..

  • Daniel Barenboim may be the Maestro of Beethoven, but this girl is tugging at his coat tails, she is better than the great Wilhelm Klempff and that is saying something. Her touch is superb, a very underrated concert pianist indeed.

  • @swimjockey69 Don't agree

  • Ultimate kiwifruitcake! Classical music is about emotion as well as technical perfection.

I agree that Valentina Lisitsa is technically brilliant. Close your eyes and open your ears....no emotion. Open your eyes and watch her play...no emotion!

I rest my case! And I didnt need to be rude!

  • @clanmac66 obama should've killed you too

  • @clanmac66 You wouldn't know what emotion was if anger punched you in the face.

  • @clanmac66 Don't agree

  • I disagree, she is not the best, not meaning to be sexist but this piece lacks sole that only a male pianist can do.

  • @clanmac66 you are so full of shit

  • @clanmac66 YOU are so full of shit times two.

  • @clanmac66 I totally disagree.

  • Beethoven was the best composer and she´s the best pianist wideworld definitely

ricardo_cabral_2000@yahoo.com, I love her. Thanks to my Wonderful God for them

  • I wouldn't say "sad" - perhaps "contemplative" or "somber" or "nostalgic"...

  • feeling a sudden rush of a fast heartbeat while listening to her!

  • super

  • super

  • What is this place?

  • This is sad. Dx

  • sheet music @ sheetsearch . com

  • I'd say slow down a little

  • We need you to post Pathetique too!! Pleaaaze!!!!

  • @walkytokie1 thats mu favourite :D

  • Is this supposed to be a sad piece? I'm a amatuer in music and is learning the. Violin lols :) somehow this piece feels so sad. Can anyone tell me if this a sad piece or what :)

  • @happy12347743 You don't need to be told, if you feel sad, then to you it is sad. Music is all about the emotion it brings to the listener, there is no "supposed".

  • @happy12347743 It is lazy to define music as either sad or happy, there are more emotions than that. This is for me the equivalent to facing your destiny knowing that there is nothing you can do about it, as if something hit you and you're left staring empty at a wall, breathing slow and waiting for the inevitable.

Tender moments of mournful, brief, yet sweet wishes, just to soon be overwhelmed by the situation.

  • @happy12347743 Its in C sharp minor so yes it is supposed to be sad. Not only sad this piece is supposed to feel dark as well x

  • The tempo in which Gould plays it is the most interesting, although, when played slowly, it sounds more like a dream, which is better. Question: at 2:46, are you not supposed to play two quick notes instead of one? I'm new to reading music, so maybe I'm just reading it wrong, but at that point in the sheet it has two of the same notes right beside eachother. Help me out.

  • thanks Beethoven, thanks Valentina!!

  • Thanks Beethoven, thanks Valentina!!

  • A hip hop version of this ! why would anyone want to hear that crap this is without any doubt an absolute masterpiece i really don't think hip hop can do anything for this tune its already perfect..

  • if you wanna hear a hip hop version search Andre Nickatina -Tony Montana

  • 2/2 which would make all the 8th note triplets actually 16th note triplets.

  • Music actually reads cut time which is

  • Thanks for the correction douche bag, but it doesn't answer my question. Admittedly I'm a novice piano player and just learned this song in traditional 4/4 but the sheet

  • Bravo Val!!

  • Comment removed

  • This song was actually written in cut-time or 2/2, which would make it much faster then even this. I would like an explanation from valentina why an obvious genious like herself, and everyone else, still play it in 4/4?

  • @thegrimupperhand The person you are questioning is a genius, not a genious.

  • 0:37 Fucking small hands! I can't hit that note! Now I gotta learn how to hit it with the left... being a novice sucks.

  • @MonsieurJackAss I've got the same problem as you :D but fortunately, we can play it with left hand :)

  • beautiful just beautiful makes me wonder how they do it so perfectly

  • whether painting a picture or fighting in mixed martial arts, somehow this music piece seems to make me do whatever type of self expression i practice, flow much easier than it would without hearing moonlight sonata. Something about it helps me let go of whatever internal conflict resides within me and better perform whatever task is at hand... Art begats art

  • She plays with such ease.......like a cottonwood seed just floating along in mid air. One of the planet's best pieces of music. It is easy to get lost in thought hearing such music.

  • I love Beethoven!

(Miss Lisitsa's performance is very nice and smooth. And I think this piece must be played by a male paino player :)

  • @purewillow It doesn't sound very feminine, does it?

  • wow she's very fluid with her hands...i wish i can play that good, but i've just began playing that piano, and i LOVE IT!

  • i played on a steinway once that cost more than my house.

  • very very beautiful. you play from your soul. I hope when I finish this piece I can play as beautiful as you play this stunning piece of classical music. blessings to you Valentina. Thank you for sharing with the world!

thank you for inspiring me! and others!!

  • WOw...Same level on my mind, that Ronnie James Dio, Man of the silver muontaing.

  • wow....this is the most romantic version i've ever heard in my life.... brilliant!!!

  • lo encontre mui bueno el video me encanto sobre todo por q me gustan los clasicoas

  • one of the best songs with meanings in it and the magic it carrys some people must have this something to hear it and feel it as the notes keep playing!!

  • beautiful !!!!!!!

  • This piece inspired me to start playing piano! :) :) I am nearly at the end of the first movement! Such a beautiful piece of music!

  • beautifully executed --- perhaps the finest presentation of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata I've seen --- this girl has the golden touch

  • @65coro she's one of the best pianist in the whole world... :)

  • She is so talented it is like sh is makinf love to the piano.

  • It's like she's making love with the piano :) that's ART

  • @coglione11 No, shes caressing the piano, The making love part is the music joining the soul of the player in the ears of the listeners. That's art.

  • @coglione11 What? there is absolutely nothing sexual about this!

    except Valentina being incredibly attractive..

    and the song being beautiful....

and her fingers gracefully stroking the keys...

  • @frankenshizzle I didn't say there was something sexual about that. I meant the way she moves is so smooth.Actualy i love it..

  • @coglione11 Yes, caressing the keys. It's like a ballet for fingers.

  • @coglione11

    No, that's sick.

  • @lovetohate12 Nope, it's art.

  • Absolutely BRILLIANT performance. Quite wonderful !!!!

  • she and I are of the same school. we both play from the Heart. thank you

  • I was raised by an extraordinary pianist considered as one of Vanclybern's peers before Russia. She never performed in public but I heard all these tunes almost daily growing up. As I know nothing of piano, nor the popular interpretive judgments of the day, only the perspective of such a pianist and her emotional connection to these compositions, it is quite rare that I hear ANY pianist that meets my standards for them. Nothing beats " mom's apple pie" but your versions are quite excellent.

  • I learned this piece at age thirteen, 30 years ago, and it is still my base, in my learning. I have always and will always love the romantics. As an aside, I've never felt that the 2nd and 3rd movements added to the first as anything other than pure difficulty rating. :)

  • @hiredmercenary

Hahaha, same here (GameCube version)! Hands down the precise moment when the game became an utter masterpiece...the dread and despair instantly became palpable. Quite possibly the most powerful piece of music ever created...and this rendition is simply immaculate. Stunning...

  • First time I heard this song was in Resident Evil on the PlayStation back when I was in middle school. Takes me back every time I listen to it now. Peaceful, beautiful, but haunts me.

  • Here's something else to think about: "Affixing 'labels' to writers, living or dead, is an inept procedure, in any circumstances: a childish amusement of small minds: and very 'deadening', since at best it overemphasizes what is common to a selected group of writers, and distracts attention form what is individual (and not classifiable) in each of them, and is the element that gives them life (if they have any). " J.R.R. Tolkien, Letter 329

  • Agreed there shouldn't be a dislike button for this. Here's somebody who is musically gifted and furthermore has worked all her life to refine and develop her gift, achieving a level few reach. One reads comments like "too fast, too slow, too whatever," where the self-styled critic sets himself up as a representative of the piano police enforcing what they think is correct. Rather, they might think of awarding themselves "dislike" for failing to appreciate the nuance of Horowitz vs. Kempf, etc

  • Wow. I wish I could play that.

  • thank you,,,its a nice end to a jacked up day at work . This is a big time Fave. for me

  • это супер

  • And dear Valentina I would be very glad if you made a comment. It would be wonderful if I had a suggestion from a virtuoso.

  • I know it can never be compared to this but I just posted my performance of this piece. I would be glad if you looked it and made a few comments so I could improve my playing.

  • Não há música melhor!

    Parabéns!

  • Valentina,

Soft, gentle, lovely ... thank you

  • ThX for the beautiful music and wonderful performance. Love it!

  • hey super gespielt!! schau dir mal "mondscheinsonate freestyle" ein :-) das erste video ist echt hammer!!

  • 20 beethovens????? nope 20 retards or critics.

  • 20 beethovens?????

  • i am not so much fond of lisitsa to tell you the honest truth but then im watching this video and im wondering why im thinking how lisitsa is sounding so much better in this video, here for the first time ever i see her playing on a Steinway :)

  • i have a litlle brother who can play this song on my piano and he's 10 it's amazing

  • @m4c4n999

Dude if u dont like it... dont lisen to it... really nobodys gonna miss you

  • 20 ignorants.

  • wonderful performance of the three movements!

  • Ahhh...what can the heart say when confronted with beauty...

  • I think she has got to be the best or one of the best pianist I have ever heard. I take my hat off to her. Beethoven would be proud.

  • Her right thumb is heavy, producing a consistant accent. Ugh!

Too slushy! Bad interpretation. Russian rubbish! I would prefer a white chicken.

  • حلووووووووووووووة ..

  • This tempo sounds right. It is the delicacy of the playing that gives it the correct feel.

I play it at this tempo.

  • You all know she's playing it exactly the way Beethoven indicated it to be played, right? You all know the version you're used to is too slow and what you consider "too fast" is the way Beethoven intended, right? It's in 2/4 time.

    Just wanted to make sure.

  • @whateveritsnoyes 2/2 time :) But I agree with you. The masters such as Kempff and indeed Miss Lisitsa play it at the correct temp.

  • @OverFjell

oops. that's what i meant. thank you for correcting me :)

yeah, most masters play it correctly. it's usually the general public that have gotten used to a slow tempo.

  • Serene, it transports the listener to another world. This to me is Beethoven's greatest masterpiece. Well played, Valentina.

  • waaaauw (L)'

  • Esta mujer vivo lo que toca!

  • IMO, you should slow this down a touch, I love how Beethoven sta
