The fact that the Like Wine people dont update their website that often is not a good sign. I dont think they have a good ground operation. It took them a month just gather 20k signatures... We need 800k by march people, and it aint going to get done at this pace.
We were so close in 2010 with Prop19 (46.2% Yes votes) that we can't stop now! We are so close to a Cannabis revolution in California. Inform your online & offline networks.
Don't believe or pay attention to any one who says that "taxing" Cannabis is a reason to not vote for Cannabis re-legalization. They are just being selfish. With Marijuana still illegal, the excuse of not supporting because it will get taxed is stupid, weak, and opposes the chances of Marijuana finally becoming legal.
Just dont take away my 6 plant med garden without size restrictions. Prop 19 wanted everyone including carded med growers to stay within a 5ft by 5ft canopy, which is nonsense. The provisions on prop 215 cant be shredded for something else that comes along and strips away prop 215 compliant patients from the rights they enjoy now. There is no freedom if you rein in individuals rights to produce their own medicine. Wine in Ca requires sulfides, which are nasty compared to European wine.
@RetroFishman A 5'x5' canopy is 25 square feet. I'm not sure on how much ground space 1 plant requires, but unless all the root systems are 3 feet wide, I don't see how you couldn't fit 6 or more plants in there.
One person finds 10 friends who sign and who will ALSO commit to find 10 more of their own friends to sign, who will each commit to find an additional 10 friends to sign: that's one thousand signatures right there, with only three "tiers" on the tree. Multiply that by 500 "signature trees", and you've just about reached the number of signatures required to get it on the ballot.
Seems eminently doable to me, and I volunteer to be one of the first 500.
We just have to find 500 folks who will commit to gathering 1000 signatures each. Not too difficult if it is a friend to friend operation. And I think a "signature tree" approach is the way to do it, which will not require a million dollars in seed money.
I just read the text of this bill and it is one of the most intelligent, compassionate, comprehensive approaches to legalization that I have ever seen. I am 100% behind it. It addresses all of the failings of Prop 19.
This is pointless. Unless the Feds and Obama pull their heads out of their asses this won't go anywhere. The head of the DEA (Obama appointment) is a staunch republican who thinks marijuana destroys families and even has her own history of being a thorn in the side of medical marijuana. She won't even get on board with MM - you think they'll take this lying down? Her funding, pharmaceutical companies, prison guard unions and the private prisons that employ them are in no way gonna let this go.
Makes sense to me as a quality control on pesticides and bacteria and molds ,etc. could be monitored on the product protecting the user from harmful chemicals now present in products smuggled in from Mexico. At the same time generating jobs and tax revenue for cities, counties and the State of Ca.
I am torn on this issue. Because as I see marijuana certainly no more harmful than wine, I cringe to think it would be assigned some sort of extra sin tax or some kind of regulations that would require blood testing for impaired driving, or something of that sort.
I am well aware that cannabis does not cause most people driving impairment. Certainly for the ones that it does impair, it does not impair them like alcohol. I don’t believe it should be taxed any more than fruits or veggies.
@xcannabiscom Well, for recreational users it is essentially a luxury product, and if it were grown legally, the price would go way down, so no matter how much it was taxed, it would still be cheaper than it is right now.
@xcannabiscom Even if there was a sin tax on it the total would still be way lower than black/gray market prices. Also they could just use any normal type of feild test for impairment there's no need to drain your blood. Even if these things were to happen, wouldn't the good in this bill outweigh the bad? Why expect the first legalization bill to be completely perfect?

I had also read somewhere that California spends more on its jails than on its schools. Is that right?

@xcannabiscom The point is to leagalize it first. We can work out the kinks in the system later.
