Why the hell would you lock your brakes up in the snow!
You apply the brakes very slighty enough to slow but not lock the brakes, this allows you to remain in controll of the steering and where the vehicle is going to go.
Locking your wheels / brakes up is like adding skates to you vehicle, no controll what so ever.
@vectorm1299 lol, easier said than done, gritting lorries dont exactly work any better in snow/ice than any regular vehicle... but yes your right, wheel locking etc doesn't help but once your in a skid like that, its impossible to regain traction
@Pugragger I've gained control of a 9,720Kg double decker bus from this sort of situation, unlocking the brakes allows you to steer the vehicle. Just most people panic and forget snow / ice driving requires a different techinque to that of sunny / dry / rain driving.
@vectorm1299 I work for the highways authority and have cleaned up many accidents involving idiots, mainly inexperienced drivers to be fair, and have had alot of fun plowing roads with a 26ton gritter/plow, its my favorite type of driving :) Its just a shame that the snow brings out the idiots, if they cant drive they should stay at home
