I met Ray a couple days ago and got his autograph and some pictures. No lie, one of the nicest people I've ever met, and I watched his show (A Visit To The Maul) at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The guy is crazy talented, funny as hell, and great with little kids. When he was spinning and twirling his dual-bladed lightsaber, he did it so fast that it couldn't be caught on my friend's amazing quality camera. And he has an epic accent. He needs to be in every action film, he deserves it.
@kobudofighter34 i'm clear on that part. I'm talking about the "owning". I dont think tony jaa would own ray. I know ray personally. He's pretty legit, and quite strong.
@trashbash2001 he wouldnt own him but theres no doubt he would win and put up a good fight but tony jaa isnt a wushu fughter hes a muay boran which is probably one of the most deadly martial arts on the world tony jaa knows more styles of martial arts than he does
@trashbash2001 welll so far from what ive seen on here and martial arts websites hes done northern shaolin kung fu, wushu, gymnastics (i know its not really a style) ,i believe i read in the black belt hes also done kickboxing but im not really sure about it can someone weigh in on this ?
@kobudofighter34 so you're saying ray park knows at least 4 styles of martial arts with a background in tumbling and gymnastics. Okay, just checking. You said that tony jaa knows more styles but muay boran was the only one listed. just curious.
@trashbash2001 tony jaa has alittle longer just to name a few, capoeira, krabi krabong, silat, taekwon do, and a few more he was a thai boxing champ when he was little . but whats interesting is that he learned more kung fu styles and didnt learn muay boran until he wanted to do ong bak
@trashbash2001 no he doesnt id recommend the second one but the third one was to freaking weird for me just wasnt him cool fight scenes but not something youd expect from tony jaa
I agree WingChun. He's done quite a few bits here and there. Darth Maul, Toad in X-Men, Headless horseman in Sleepy Hollow although the horse riding done by another stuntman, Snake Eyes in G.I. Joe.
It would be great to see him do a feature length kick-ass team up with Jet Li, Snipes Jackie Chan or just on his own. How awesome would that be!!
Does anyone here know where i can find the video that the first 20 seconds of this vid is from? And does anyone know where 0:25 - 0:36 comes from too?
Even great teachers will advise never to neglect your basics.
While people in the west (or not to sound too racial: places where wushu is less known and less founded by their government) often skip their basics too fast and neglect them during their current training(even people in the national team). I have even seen ppl just win the competitions because they made a somersault but between the jumps...it's empty. (let's say, if they cut their jumps, it's nt as amazing)
should you really call it "wushu" because most of the things I see are just jumps and kicks and flashy movements... (those who do wushu, do know that wushu is more than butterfly twists, butterflies, somersault or tornado kicks etc...)
No offense, he's a great star and stuntman.
But it might give wushpractioners/audience a wrong idea of wushu...
Wasn't he a wushu 'practitioner' himself.. I think he's a martial artist first... And yes wushu (and all martial arts for that matter) are more than acrobatics but that does NOT take away the fact that the flips and kicks and 'flashy' moves are actual moves and that it takes a GREAT deal of training to do them correctly...
I do admit it takes a great amount of time strenght, speed and patience to practise this acrobatic movements on a great level, but wushu's foundation lies undeniable in its basics. Children in China (which has a lot of wushuschools )devote their first years to nothing but basics. For more than two years they have to stretch, do basic stances, basic kicks and the same basic form all over again.
I do agree with you that a lot of time is spent on basics, because all the flashykicks etc can be (essentially) boiled down to said basics. What I'm saying is that if he hadn't had a great foundation is his basics, he probably wouldnt be able to do this either. But as I said.. I fully understand and agree with you.
I'm not really questioning about HIS wushubasics, I'm in overall generalising the current problems in the wushu world.
Well i do have to admit that I ve unfortunately witness a lot of people who are great in jumps but their basics aren't..uhm.."complete". Like I said, if most western people ran through their forms without any jumps, it would be empty while Chinese people will still amaze us with their speed, ffuriosity, strenght, agility and of course their deadly stare ;)
Woah, woah.. the deadly stare is pure genetics =P We got that thang hahaha!
But yes, again, I do agree with you. I've seen a lot of that happen (and here *I* go with generalising) with western people... In a lot of area's too.. I mean, I play guitar.. and even there you can see a LOT of flair and flashy things that look hard, while in reality keeping a good, steady, 'monotonous' funk rhythm for 4 whole minutes can be WAY harder.
i think that ray park instead of ryan reynolds would be the perfect choice for deadpool movie its not that ryan isnt a good actor its that with ryan he would have to have stunt doubles but with ray he is experienced in those areas ...............just saying
