  • Death Angel in the background! Nice!

  • How far apart should the pickups be from each others border plate edge? -I'm asking this because I'm making a custom clear pick guard.

How long is the neck starting from where its touching the neck pickup to the starting point of the head [the top side]?

  • what is the total height?

  • They're called ferrules. Took me forever to figure that out too!

  • @TheAwgotbass Oops, sorry, that was from me (mikejsloat)...signed in with the wrong info...

  • on this video at 2:29 you flip the guitar over showing the string thru. On the top side I know its called a tail piece but at 2:29 what are the components called or six rings that hold the six strings from the back? I cant find anything on the net and I would prefer stringing the guitar strings thru the body. Thanks for the help!

  • Just wondering... but do you make custom guitars for people?

  • @TaterThao I've made a few customs for friends, and would be glad to make one for you. Price just depends on what you want, so if you have some ideas, hit me back!

  • Just a quick question. What are the dimensions of the actual neck tenon and the angle you used?

  • for some reason....he reminds me of a grungy paul gilbert O.o nice guitar man! is that the natural color of the wood, or some kind of stain?

  • @TheBrokenWing1 Yes, it's a Min-Wax water based wood stain, got it at Lowes I think...

  • thanks Mike, I´ve been dreaming make one of this beauties and all the info you share helps a lot.

  • this might seem irrelevant to the guitar making but do you watch mythbusters?

  • @jason51110 I've seen a few, why??

  • @mikejsloat Just the way you edit your videos, nice job by the way. I enjoyed watching it.

  • Thanks for this useful vid! I live out in the sticks, so a trip to guitar center to measure guitars isn't really an option. I'm gonna be making one out of solid Padauk!

  • The neck I also angled and the the headstock, which is 17 degrees, looking for the neck angle, anyone?

  • @mkilner I think the angle on the plans that I followed said 13 degrees, but it really depends on the height of your bridge...at least, that's how i did it...

  • @mikejsloat neck angle is 2.3 degrees. They mill the pocket that way and keep the tenon square from what I understand. LPs are 4 degrees. Mike, I believe you are referring to the headstock and they are typically from 11-13-17 degrees depending on the model, year, etc...

  • @BetterThanEddy That's it, you're right...I think the plans I used said a 3 degree angle for the neck, but mine's definitely not accurate. Thanks!

  • @mikejsloat what plans did you use? I have some from Spirit Flutes, cost like 12 bucks and I only plan on using it for scale and reference. I couldn't find any other plans out there.

  • @BetterThanEddy I found my plans on ebay about 4 years ago, but haven't seen the seller on there since then...??

  • what is the angle of V from the crotch to the tip and what is the angle of the big V from the neck to the very end of the body where you plug the socket into...

  • hey dude nice video, how did you hide the brand name?

  • @VKzGibson I built this one myself, so there's no brand name.

  • Hey look it's Tom Green with long hair!

  • @losgetlost Noooooo!@#$!!

  • @mikejsloat Just teasin you! Thanks for posting the video. I was looking for those measurements and this is the only place I found them. Nice guitar!

  • @losgetlost dave grohl?

  • @MBPtheFirst There goes my hero.......Watch him as he goes!

  • im trying to build a jackson rr but im having problems, could you help me?

is in the fret board i wanna make a 24 fret guitar and the scale legth is 25-1/2 but i cant find the right size where the fret wire goes.

  • NICE WORK MAN!! im making my own alexi laiho version of a guitar but really dude good work

  • How long is it from where the nech ends, straight downwards, until it crossesthe ( approximated) line from one outer edge to the other in a right angle(90 °) ?

  • Nice fat neck!

  • Hey man, thanks for the dimensions of the guitar. I'm going to build one myself and it'll be the first one I ever made. I hope it'll work out well.

  • Dude, tnx alot, with your dimensions and some modification i made my first guitar

Its like a mixture of Jackson rhoads, and dean razorback V xD

  • Dude, thanks for all the dimensions, but could you give me some idea of the angles involved here?

  • @SirRawThunderMan Hey- I'm not exactly sure of the angles; my plans don't show any angle measurements for the body...sorry.

  • Hey mike, whats the distance between the two points of the V?

  • @Kylev2 From the very outter edge, where it starts to round off, it's 16.75 inches.

  • what is the length betwen the two corners

  • @RUCKANROLL From the very outter edge, where it starts to round off, it's 16.75 inches.

  • woow man ive been looking for this all day! thanks man

  • that is awesome man thanks

  • what kind of wood is it?

  • Its probably all mahogany

  • It's not mahogany, it's an african wood named limba (a.k.a. KORINA).

If it was mahogany, it was red-ish.

I'm about to build two '67 replica V's, one in mahogany, one in korina (both neck thru instead of set neck).

I have already crafted two Les Paul clones, both neck thru construction, and they have a fuckin' looooong sustain, and a very thick sound. Guess Zakk Wylde would steal them from me!!!

  • Dude, you are my hero. Great video. What is the distance between the two wings? u said 19 inches with a 2 inch radius. What is the distance from the top to the bottom wing so i can angle it correctly? Thanx bro

  • nice guitar man...i hope i can make one too..but i dont know how ...great guitar maker..

  • it' s the real gibson dimension or...

  • As far as i know, these are the gibson dimensions.

  • ok thx

  • were did you get those dimensions man? can i get the blueprints for it?...

  • how high is it from the base to the 'crotch' I really need to know

  • How far is it from the highest point of the "crotch" to where the body ends?

  • my friend has a Gibson V and I have a Dean and he thinks the Dean is more comfortable to play

  • what pickups did you use i am making a guitar and i am putting single sd p90 it the bridge position but what did u use sounds sweet

  • that isnt a gibson is it.. if not can u like message or comment wich company made it...

i want to buy a non gibson flying v...

    probably cheaper in cash

  • And also how long is the distance for the "shoulders"?

  • the part that I called the "cutaways"? they're about 1.25", and slightly rounded...sorry I can't give you a more accurate dimension/ angle...

  • No, I mean the distance from one side of the guitar to the other... The distance of the lower part of the first cutaway to the lower part of the second cutaway... A person a few comments up called letterbekmen called it the "shoulder width"

  • so the widest part of the "V" where it rounds at the bottom? it's about 17".

  • No, not the bottom... I meant at the top, where the neck ends and the neck and body come together. How far apart is the lower part of the cutaway on the left from the lower part of the cutaway on the right(at about 0:26 seconds on your video)?

  • He means the widest part where the fretboard meets the body.

  • Hey Mike, do you know what the angles are for the lines that make up the body that you talk about in around 0:40-1:20?

  • hmmm- I'm not really sure...and I don't know how to figure that out! sorry...a few people have told me recently that they found a few flying v templates on line, so that might be the way to go.

  • THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH MAN

  • Comment removed

  • thanks man this helped me alot

  • im trying build thid guitar and it really helps thanks but how long is it from the nut to the bottom of the bridge ?

  • it really depends on the scale length you want it to have AND the fret board that you use- after you choose a scale length and fret board, the bridge location will be determined (so if it's 12 1/2 inches to the 12th fret from the nut, the middle saddles of the bridge will be exactly 12 1/2 from the 12th fret, creating a 25" scale).

  • cheers m8 .

  • how did you jointed the neck to the body? What kind of glue did you use? Can you make a drawing about the joint Because I can not really imagine how to do that? Can you help me with the making of the neck?

  • well i would make the next tenon protrude into the body about 3 and a half to 4 inches and glue it in with titebond wood glue once its done drying the neck joint will actually bond stronger than the wood its good stuff:)

  • what is the shoulder width This is way not enough infoto build this guitar

  • 1. What's the name of the band that wrote that music in the background?

    2. what's the name of the song?

  • Death Angel, "The Organization" from ACT III

  • Hi, I was wondering, what's the length of the neck, and what was the distance between each of the frets? I was thinking of making a model of one in Autodesk Inventor for my final project...

  • length of the neck from the nut to the end of the fret board is 18 5/8...you should look on line somewhere to find specific distances between each fret- there's gotta be a guitar building site somewhere that goes into those details.

  • Ok, thanks!

  • Whats the distance from the two bottoms of the "Horns" at the bottom of the guitar?

  • you should make a heavy metal strat

emg 81(b) 85(n) whatever color finish (purple would be cool) a reverse esp or dean headstock, put some gibson or dunlop strap locks, set neck, a floyd rose, if you can get them dime traction knobs,a custom in lay at the 12th and razor inlays, side markers, 24 frets, shave the neck down so you can play up a little higher( i got that from the matt heafy dean rising sun) and a flamed maple top, it may cost a shit load but its just an idea

  • Nice work Mike , I needed these plans because it builds theses flying V ...

  • Thans dude you helped me alot.

  • Woot thanks man, it was seriously getting me worry. Thanks a million

  • Hey Mike I was just wondering, When you say 2 inch radius, did you really mean diameter or radius? Because the radius is the distance from the center of circle while the the Diameter is the actual distance across from one side of the circle to another. Please let me know cause my stencil came out way too big.

  • OH SHIT, you're right! yeah, 2 inch DIAMETER. Crap, I better edit that...yeah, a 4 inch corner would be fucking ridiculous...

  • Hey- I just added an annotation saying it's a 2" diameter, not radius. thanks for way smarter than me.

  • can i ask a question mike..so the dimensions of flying v and flying v bass are only the same? i would make a flying v bass replica.peace mate\m/rock on

  • Actually, I'm not sure- I'd guess the only difference would be the neck, but I'm not totally sure of that...??

  • u said u got them from ebay the templates but i cant find shit all does stuart mcdonald sell templates too?

  • they do, but not for a V...I got mine from someone in the UK on ebay, and they seem to pop up from time to time...

  • Hello Mike! These Flying V-s are very beautifull. I would like to ask you two things: what was the size of the body blank and what's the angle of the V, you know between the two legs...i think. :)

  • Nice fat neck!

  • yeah, it's freaking huge.

  • Hey mike, what is the length from the top of the body to the "crotch"?

  • from the neck side of the "cutaway" to the crotch is about 12 inches- this is for the older, 1950s cutaway style- the 60s and 70s have a longer cutaway from the body to the neck, by the way.

  • Thanks alot!

  • what are the dimensions from the bridge to the nut?

  • i knew i forgot something...24.75" scale, my other one (the facemelter) is 25" scale.

  • I think we're pissing mikesloat off...he doesnt seem as happy as in the first video when he gave the thumbs up with feeling...now the thumbs up is more like a middle finger...he's still awesome though

  • no no no, I just come across as a smart ass all the time...sorry if it felt insincere. I made this video, cuz i care.

  • thanks for that it helped me make my stencil

  • thanks for the info mike

  • Thanks

  • first whooooooo!
